When travelling, there’s nothing more reassuring than honest people. Whether you are hiking through No Man’s Land or buying oranges at the local grocery store, honesty makes you feel welcome, makes you feel safe. If it seems like people are misleading you or talking behind your back, that immediately results in an unsafe atmosphere. Which is not only bad for you but also for everyone else involved. When choosing a holiday destination, it’s therefore not that strange to do some research into the local population and the way they behave towards tourists.
That’s exactly why Twinner decided to dive into the matter and look at some facts. The company specializes in data analysis on anything related to cars. From car dealership reviews over government and theft to civic duty: they took everything into account when establishing their Honest City Index. Of course, there are some side notes which deserve some attention. First of all, Twinner selected 350 metropoles all over the world. But as they didn’t have enough data on all of these places, they decided to make a shortlist of 75 cities all over the world about which they had enough info to make a solid comparison. If some cities don’t appear on the list at all, that’s why. Of course that doesn’t mean a city or its population aren’t honest – it simply means Twinner didn’t have what they needed to perform a correct analysis.
1. Zürich scores best
When looking at the list, it’s the Swiss city Zürich that comes in first. Their car dealer reviews score just above 80% but when it comes to civic duty, theft rate and everything else, the Swiss clearly do a good job. The second place goes to Tokyo in Japan, a city that receives an astonishing 100% on car dealer reviews but scores a little less well when it comes to transparency in society and government. The third place then goes to Adelaide in Australia, scoring almost 95% overall.
One other thing that stands out: Germany, the USA and Canada clearly score great when it comes to honesty. You’ll find the entire top twenty below, and for more details you can have a look at Twinner’s website.
