A few year back, Uber was non-existent. In order to move ourselves inside and around a city, we used to take public transportation, a cab or call a friend. Yet since its debut in 2009 the company has made quite a name for itself. And let’s be honest, we all think it’s very convenient to be able to pull out our phone, open the app and book a ride. Both when we’re going somewhere for work as when we’re going out for a drink while on holiday.
As the company’s present in so many different cities all around the world, it’s quite well-placed to make an overview of the most-visited destinations. Both locals and tourists use their services so the data are reliable and not just tourism-focused. So let’s think about this for a bit. Which destinations do you think are visited the most inside Europe? Is it the Eiffel Tower in Paris or the Colosseum in Rome? Maybe the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin or the Big Eye in London? They’re all well-known attractions and would therefore be quite the obvious choice. Yet it turns out we’re far more materialistic than that.
Selfridges beat out more conventional London tourist attractions
According to Uber, London warehouse Selfridges is the most visited Uber destination within Europe. Something we personally didn’t see coming but when you think of it, it actually makes sense. It’s a place where both locals and tourists shop and a store with quite a hefty price tag – meaning its customers generally have the funds to pay an Uber ride instead of cheaper public transportation. So all in all, one could say it all makes sense.
Of course, the Uber statistics don’t end there. When talking about the world’s most popular destinations, the Empire State Building in New York takes the lead once again.
Selfridges comes in second, followed by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, the Blue Mosque in Istanbul and Disneyland in California. Generally speaking, travelers from the U.S., Mexico and the U.K use Uber the most often while on holiday and Mexico City, Miami and Lisbon were the most popular cities for tourists to take an Uber in.
According to the statistics the French city Besançon, Corsica (France), Osijek (Croatia), Vila Real (Portugal) and the Garden Route district (South Africa) all received perfect ride scores. Uber and out!
