So far, 2020 hasn’t been the best year for travelers. Due to the pandemic, travelling was quite complicated and often even prohibited. Travel plans got cancelled, planning a vacation was difficult and a lot of people got frustrated because they were left behind with a great deal of wanderlust. Chances are you are or you know a true travel lover who needs some cheering up. Fortunately, Christmas is closing in on us and what better way to make a travel lover happy than by buying them a gift which will be perfect once we can travel freely and carelessly again?
It can be quite difficult though to find a gift, especially for someone who’s already got a good travel equipment. You could of course buy them a luxury piece that will upgrade the stuff they’ve already got but you can also buy them a gift they wouldn’t quickly buy themselves. We roamed the internet in search of ten great gifts for the travel lover in your life and, even though we say so ourselves, we came up with some great ideas. So keep that credit card ready and read on!
1. Analog camera
Most travelers already have quite a good (phone) camera to capture their most special moments while on the road. And, let’s be honest, a good digital camera can be quite an expense. But why not buy them a nice analog camera? This doesn’t have to be expensive and it’s a really fun addition while travelling. You can’t look at the result straight away so it’s always a nice surprise when you get the pictures developed.
2. Collapsible coffee mug
Any eco-conscious traveler needs one of these. It’s really handy if you’re on holiday and you want to get your daily shot of caffeine without needing to carry around a big and bulky reusable mug. You use it when you need it and when you’re done, you just put it in your bag and it barely takes up any room at all. And when you’re at home, you can still use it at your local coffee shop.
3. Cookbook
Does your travel-loving friend also happen to be a true foodie at heart? Look no further and just buy them a nice cookbook which covers the cuisine of a destination they really want to visit. There are a ton of really yummy options available so just personalize it as much as you can. Indian, British, Mexican, Italian… it can literally be anything you want.
4. Solar power bank
This is a great option for anyone who loves to go hiking or camping. When you’re in the middle of nowhere, you don’t have electricity so you can’t just charge your phone. A power bank is a nice option but the solar powered ones are even better, especially for long trips. Because we all know that even the biggest adventurers need a little need from Google Maps sometimes.
5. Water purifier
Again, this is a perfect gift for the adventurous travelers out there. If you go camping in the wilderness for several days at a time, you can’t just take liters and liters worth of drinking water with you. That’s just not handy and way too heavy for most of us. That’s why a water purifier is so ideal. Depending on which type you get, it filters out all the bacteria and viruses that may be present in the water you find along the way.
6. Portable coffee maker
Yes, we did already speak about coffee in this article, but what can we say? We just love a cup of joe and we’re sure we’re not the only ones. If the destination you travel to hasn’t got any coffee shops you can just brew your own. The Aeropress GO is one of the many options out there which make it very easy to make a cup of coffee while you’re on the beach, in the mountains or anywhere else really. You just need some coffee and boiling water and this handy little device does the rest.
7. Travel inspo book
It’s a classic but it never grows old. Especially now that we’re stuck inside, it’s the perfect moment to do some travel research. Of course, the internet is your best friend but sometimes a beautiful book is just what you need. We wouldn’t be able to tell you about all the travel inspo books that are available at the moment but a nice recent launch is ‘150 Hotels You Need to Visit before You Die’ by Debbie Pappyn. Ah, that wanderlust is real!
8. Rechargeable bike lights
Is the person you’re buying for a bike fanatic? Chances are, he or she will be very pleased with some qualitative rechargeable bike lights. Especially when the days are short you want to make sure you’re visible on the road and the more lights, the better. The good thing about lights that aren’t actually attached to your bike is that you can also use them when setting up your tent in the dark or in any other scenario in which you would need some extra light. Handy!
9. Portable speaker
Travelling is great but sometimes, when you’re in your hotel room, tent or whatever it is you’re staying at, you just want some music to set the tone. A portable speaker is great in those cases but very few travelers actually buy them for themselves as it’s a bit of a luxury item. And that’s exactly why it makes for such a perfect gift.
10. E-reader
Last but not least, the e-reader. Again, this is not exactly a necessity while you’re on the road yet it does come in very handy, especially if you’re someone who reads a lot. No need to carry those ten different books around, you can just upload them on one tiny and light device. And for those who are a bit sceptic: no, it’s not just the same as a tablet. Trust us.
