Did you know that today, February 22nd, is National Margarita Day? The Margarita, a combination of triple sec, tequila, and lime juice, was first created in 1938 in Mexico, and National Margarita Day makes for the perfect excuse to celebrate and indulge in one (or more!) of the delicious drink, or indeed any of your favourite cocktails.
It’s always 5 o’clock somewhere, and that’s never truer than on National Margarita Day. So grab your ingredients, and let’s make the perfect Margarita. Salud!
Ingredients:
- Ice
- 50ml tequila (ideally tequila reposado)
- 25ml lime juice (from freshly squeezed limes)
- 20ml triple sec (or Cointreau)
- salt (to garnish)
- 2 lime wedges (to garnish)
Method:
Step 1. Sprinkle a few teaspoons of salt onto a small plate. Rub one wedge of lime along the rim of the drinking glass and then dip this into the salt so that the entire rim is covered.
Step 2. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, then add the tequila, lime juice and triple sec. Shake until the outside of the shaker feels cold.
Step 3. Strain the mix into the prepared glass over fresh ice. Serve with a wedge of lime.
Serving suggestion: You can also whizz it all up in a blender with some ice for the ultimate iced Margaritas.
