Recognising the urgency, flight attendant Jennifer Joie promptly sought assistance from passengers with medical expertise. Responding to the call were a recently qualified 22-year-old nurse named Lore and a doctor, who together formed an impromptu medical team. They moved Ndeye to the aircraft’s galley, which served as a makeshift delivery room.
As the Airbus A330 continued its journey, Ndeye’s labour progressed rapidly. Under the guidance of the medical team, she was coached through breathing exercises. Before a return to Dakar could be arranged, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Fanta. The newborn’s initial cries resonated throughout the cabin, bringing relief and joy to all on board. The attending doctor confirmed that both mother and child were in good health.
