The aviation analytics firm Cirium takes flight data from airlines worldwide and publishes its “On-time Performance Monthly Report”, each month, breaking it down by geographical locations with the inclusion of a worldwide category.
1. Punctuality worldwide
Based on almost 500,000 flights in April, Cirium revealed that Iberia beat every other airline punctuality-wise, with an on-time performance of 87.28%. This result is based on data from 99.62% of Iberia’s monthly operations, or 13,929 flights. Latin American carriers Avianca and LATAM held the number two and three spots, with on-time arrival rates of 86.83% and 85.8%, respectively. 99.43% of Avianca’s 17,198 flights were tracked in April, compared to 98.52% of LATAM’s 40,595. Qatar Airways and Japan Airlines closed out the top five with 84.26% and 83.95% of on-time arrivals, respectively.
2. Europe’s performance
In Europe, LOT Polish Airlines jumps to the top spot amongst European airlines with a strong on-time performance result of 89.25%. LOT Polish Airlines is followed closely by Iberia with an on-time performance of 87.28% and Norwegian Air Shuttle scoring 87.15%.
3. North America
The highest-performing North American carrier was Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines with an on-time arrival rate of 83.29%. Alaska Airlines was the second-best in the region, just over one percentage point behind Delta, with 82.02%. In third comes American Airlines, which had an on-time arrival rate of 78.95%. American had the most flights of any North American carrier, with 163,838 in April. Rounding out the top five comes United Airlines and Canadian carrier WestJet, boasting 78.01% and 74.44% on-time arrival rates, respectively. United Airlines had 123,973 flights compared to WestJet’s 14,494.
4. Colombia and India
Cirium tracks all kinds of flight data, including on-time airports. According to the analytics firm, in April, El Dorado International Airport in Bogota had the highest rate of on-time departures, 87.43% and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) in India was number two, with 86.61% of flights departing on time.
