The 1040 is a household name with gourmets in Brussels’ European Quarter. It’s the restaurant of chef Jean-Philippe Watteyne, located in the five-star Sofitel Brussels Europe hotel. The restaurant is reopening its own freshly renovated roof terrace. With the summer in prospect, the news comes right on time to be able to enjoy the first rays of sunshine of the season.
Even though it is part of the restaurant, the lounge offers a completely different menu where cocktails and sharing dishes set the tone. Salmon tartare, saffron hummus and grilled pineapple with pan-fried foie gras are just some of the different tapas on hand, which can be enjoyed from one of the comfortable chairs under the string lights of the rooftop pergola.
Not only is The Roof by The 1040 a perfect place to meet friends or colleagues for drinks on a sunny day, it is also a great spot to look out over the Brussels skyline. Located at the heart of the European district but at walking distance from the city centre and the popular Place Jourdan, one could easily decide to make the night last even longer afterwards.
The Roof is open 7 days per week from 5:00 pm until midnight, if the weather allows. The tapas service and music stop at 10:00 pm. so as not to disturb the neighbours but it is possible to order drinks until 11:30 pm. Reservations aren’t possible and as there is only room for 50 people on the terrace, arriving on time might be the key to a successful evening.
