Rainforest Wild Asia, Singapore’s fifth wildlife park and part of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, is set to open in March 2025. Guests will be able to experience an immersive rainforest experience while choosing their preferred level of adventure.
“Our newest park celebrates the rainforests of our region, which are home to a vast array of natural wonders,” said Mike Barclay, CEO of Mandai Wildlife Group. “The park is designed to allow iconic animal species from the region, including tigers, sun bears, tapirs and gregarious langurs, to roam through extensive habitats. This immersive design gives our guests the chance to witness how different animals thrive in distinct rainforest settings. Most importantly, we hope to create strong feelings of connection to nature and a renewed determination to cherish and protect our planet.”
Rainforest Wild Asia will span over a surface of 13 hectares, featuring 10 different zones. Depending on the zone they choose when visiting, guests of the park will get to enjoy a very different experience. For example, part of the park has been developed in such a way as to make it accessible to families and wheelchair users alike. Other parts feature small and more rugged forest trails and some of the most adventurous paths even require harnesses.
As far as the actual wildlife goes, the park will be home to 29 iconic animal species. Amongst others, guests will be able to marvel at tigers, sun bears, tapirs, langurs and two new-to-Singapore species, the François’ langur and the Philippine spotted deer.
The animals will be sheltered by an environment designed to mimic their natural habitats. 7,000 South-east Asian trees and shrubs have been planted in order to recreate the rainforest, and special features such as the limestone formations and caves have been added to mimic the natural surroundings even more.
The wildlife park will use flexible habitats in which different animals will be featured at different times of the day. According to the park, this allows for stimulating environments for the animals, thereby encouraging natural behaviours.
Rainforest Wild Asia marks the first phase of Singapore’s fifth wildlife park. In a next phase, the Mandai Wildlife Reserve plans to open the Rainforest Wild Africa.
