Starting from April 2025, a new UN Tourism Academy will open its doors in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Initiated by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and in collaboration with UN Tourism, the academy aims to promote quality education and human development in the tourism sector.
Certificates and diplomas awarded by the International Academy of Tourism in Samarkand will be internationally recognised. This recognition is guaranteed through its affiliation with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism Academy) and its compliance with global educational standards. As a result, graduates will be able to use their newly earned qualifications to access career opportunities worldwide.
Courses at the Samarkand International Academy of Tourism and Hospitality will be delivered in collaboration with Les Roches, a leading Swiss hospitality education institution. Students will study international standards in the tourism sector and learn industry best practices, with a particular focus on sustainable tourism development.
In addition to theoretical seminars, the academy will place strong emphasis on practical training. Internships with private-sector companies will provide students with hands-on experience. Courses are designed for a broad audience, making them suitable for both beginners and those with prior experience.
“Investing in education and professional training is a key step for the development of the tourism industry. We aim to educate a new generation of specialists who will not only be in demand in the market but also contribute to the sustainable development of the region and the global hospitality industry,” academy representatives told UZ Daily.
Hospitality Management course
The academy’s first course, Hospitality Management, will run from 21 April to 21 December 2025. The course will be delivered in English, with some content available in Russian. It is aimed at industry professionals, and applicants can choose between the full course ($850) or individual modules ($120 each). International students are required to submit an application form, academic transcripts, a copy of their passport, and proof of language proficiency (if applicable).
On campus, students will have access to a library, a tourism research centre, student dormitories, and recreational facilities.
The programme includes eight different modules, each focusing on a specific area of the hospitality industry. From Innovative, Alternative, and Sustainable Trends in Tourism to Event Management and Hospitality Real Estate & Investment, students will gain a comprehensive overview of the sector, along with practical knowledge and future-ready best practices.
