Known for the world’s largest and most valuable collection of authentic music memorabilia, Hard Rock International has recently unveiled plans for the new Hard Rock Hotel Algarve, the first in Portugal, marking yet another expansion of the iconic brand’s global presence. The upcoming property will be situated near the picturesque Praia do Vau, in Portimão, offering guests direct access to beautiful sandy beaches.
Construction for the hotel is set to commence in early 2024, with the grand opening scheduled for the summer of 2026. The luxurious property will boast approximately 275 rooms and suites, as well as an additional 150 branded serviced apartments.
We’re delighted to expand Hard Rock Hotel’s unparalleled offerings to the beautiful country of Portugal in 2026.
Todd Hricko, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Hotel Development for Hard Rock International
Visitors staying at the Hard Rock Hotel Algarve will be treated to a plethora of amenities and entertainment options. Among the highlights arethree restaurants, three bars, three exterior pools, a gym, a sports area, a beach club, a Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club, a Rock Spa and a Rock Shop.
“This new development will further extend the enhanced entertainment experience our guests know and love to yet another part of the world, while incorporating the country’s amazing culture”, said Todd Hricko, Senior Vice President and Head of Global Hotel Development for Hard Rock International.
The choice of Portimão as the location for the hotel is no coincidence. The town is renowned for its historic ports, lively marina and the Algarve International Autodrome, which hosted the Portuguese Grand Prix in 2020 and 2021. Notably, the region also boasts some of the finest beaches in Portugal, with extensive sandy coastlines and tranquil, crystal-clear waters.
Located at Vau Beach, the new Hard Rock Hotel will have a stunning backdrop of coppery cliffs and turquoise waters as its background, complemented by a diverse selection of restaurants serving fresh seafood. With a coastline of about 3km, Vau Beach is located between the area of Rocha Beach, Portimão and Alvor.
“We’re excited to create a unique asset on the shores of Praia do Vau that reflects the Portuguese culture and attracts visitors from around the globe”, Jordi Vilanova, President of Mercan Properties, which is collaborating on the project with Hard Rock International, commented on the partnership. “We believe that this collaboration between Mercan Properties and Hard Rock International will be a great success in Algarve and a very positive contribution to the country”. Algarve continues to be a great point of interest and attention for Mercan, according to Vilanova, which is “illustrated by [their] investment in the region in the form of four projects. Portugal is undoubtedly a tourist destination of excellence at the world level”.
