2022 is going to be a great year for TV, with exciting new shows coming from Netflix, HBO, Hulu, Disney+, and more. The new year seems to be very exciting for fantasy fans, but also for crime drama lovers, with Hulu releasing its Elizabeth Holmes series The Dropout, and Netflix delving into the story of the scammer Anna Delvey. Here are 10 TV series that will dominate the screens in 2022.
1. The Tourist
Release date: 1 January 2022
The Tourist was released on BBC only two days ago, but it has already received overwhelming acclaim. Set in the Australian outback, the six-part thriller features actor Jamie Dornan as main character. The BBC described the plot as “full of shocking, surprising, funny and brutal turns, The Tourist is set in a world populated by quirky, enigmatic characters and off-beat comedy punctuates high-stakes action.”
2. Inventing Anna
Release date: 11 February 2022
Netflix series Inventing Anna is based on the real story of Anna Sorokin, a German girl who between 2013 and 2017 convinced New York’s elite she was a wealthy German heiress under the name Anna Delvey. Starring Julia Garner as Delvey, Anna Chlumsky , Katie Lowes and Laverne Cox.
3. The Dropout
Release date: 3 March 2022
Based on the podcast The Dropout by Rebecca Jarvis and ABC Audio, this show follows the true story of Elizabeth Holmes, the scammer and founder of failed blood-testing startup Theranos Inc. Ms. Homes managed to convince investors she had created a device that could take blood test results using surprisingly small volumes of blood, such as by pricking a finger.
4. Pam & Tommy
Release date: 2 February 2022
This eight-episode series follows Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee relationship from when they married (less than a week after they met), until a sex tape from their honeymoon found itself in the hands of former porn actor Rand Gauthier and was distributed online. Starring Lily James (interpreting Pamela Anderson) and Sebastian Stan (interpreting Tommy Lee).
5. This Is Going To Hurt
Release date: TBC 2022
The BBC series This Is Going To Hurt is an adaptation of the namesake Adam Kay’s bestselling book. The plot is about a junior doctor (played by Ben Whishaw) who tries to work his way up through the ranks of hospital hierarchy. The story highlights the toll the job can take back home and how it affects the doctor’s personal life.
6. Secret Invasion
Release date: TBC 2022
Coming soon to Disney+ is the new Marvel series Secret Invasion, which will star Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn. Like many other Marvel Studios productions, Secret Invasion shares continuity with the Avengers film franchise. The plot centers around the Skrulls, the shape-shifting aliens introduced in the 2019 film Captain Marvel. The TV series takes its name from the 2008 Marvel comic book written by Brian Michael Bendis with artists Lenil Francis Yu, Mark Morales, and Laura Martin.
7. Chloe
Release date: TBC 2022
Chloe, which will be released on Amazon Prime Video and BBC, is a psychological thriller series exploring the contemporary obsessions connected to the use of social media. The series follows a young woman called Becky living with her mom. Becky constantly compares herself to the picture-perfect lives on Instagram, obsessively returning to one specific account: Chloe’s. When Chloe suddenly dies, Becky decides to assume a new identity to find out what caused her death.
8. Peacemaker
Release date: January 13 2022
Created by James Gunn for the streaming service HBO Max, Peacemaker is based on the namesake DC Comics character. James Gunn came up with the idea for a Peacemaker spin-off series while making the 2021 hit The Suicide Squad. The series explores the origins of Peacemaker who believes in achieving peace at any cost and he is prepared to use the force of arms to achieve it. John Cena stars as the title character.
9. The Midnight Club
Release date: TBC 2022
Created by Mike Flanagan for Netflix, The Midnight Club is an American horror mystery-thriller streaming television series. The series is about a group of five terminally ill patients hosted at Rotterdam Home, who begin to gather together at midnight to share horror stories.
10. How I Met Your Father
Release date: January 18 2022
Fans of How I Met Your Mother are finally getting the spinoff series they’ve been waiting for. How I Met Your Father is a 10-episode comedy series on Hulu starring Hillary Duff as lead character Sophie. The show follows Sophie as she tells her kids how she met their father.
