Lufthansa Group has introduced flights that are more environmentally friendly using Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and supporting high-quality climate protection initiatives. Starting February 15 the new fares are applicable for journeys to various locations in Europe and North Africa. The company is the first airline group in the world to offer a fare for more sustainable travel.
The new ticket prices comprise the offsetting of carbon dioxide emissions caused by the flight. This is accomplished by using 20 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuels and compensating the remaining 80 percent by contributing to high-quality climate protection projects. The Green Fares provide status miles and a free rebooking option.
People don’t just want to fly and discover the world – they also want to protect it at the same time. We support our guests in this with suitable products.

Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, SWISS, Edelweiss, Eurowings Discover, and Air Dolomiti will be providing the new Green Fares on over 730,000 flights annually that are destined for locations in Europe, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. These fares can be reserved through the carriers’ websites and the NDC platform for both Economy and Business Class. Corporate customers receive a CO₂ mitigation certificate for the carbon dioxide reduction achieved with the Sustainable Aviation Fuel.
We are thus pioneering the industry and living up to our ambition to develop innovative solutions for aviation of the future. And we are making it even easier for our customers to book more sustainable offers.

The Green Fares initiative is expected to drive increased demand for more sustainable air travel, encouraging other airlines to follow in Lufthansa Group’s footsteps.
The Lufthansa Group has set a goal of achieving a carbon-neutral balance by 2050. By 2030, the group plans to reduce its net CO₂ emissions by 50% compared to 2019. The reduction roadmap until 2030 was endorsed by the independent Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) in August 2022, making the Lufthansa Group the first airline group in Europe to have a science-based CO₂ reduction target aligned with the objectives of the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
