September is well on its way, and for many, this means autumn is rapidly approaching. Staying cool, dry, and professional during the rainy season can be quite the challenge, so we took it upon us to put together a list of wardrobe tips that will help tackle this next season.
1. Rain boots, but make it classy
While many might think of rain boots as something solely fit for the countryside, this should not be the case. As with many things in life, the rain boot options are almost endless nowadays, meaning there are many city-adapted and even professional models available. Low or high, black or colourful, quietly luxurious or budget proof: it all depends on personal preferences. A pair of Chelsea rain boots might, however, be the most subtle version and the most versatile.
2. Coat the outfit
Temperatures can vary a lot when it’s raining, so layers are key to staying comfortable. A well-adapted raincoat is however the most important part of what one might wear. Not all are created equally – some are better to put in your bag just in case, but might not keep their wearer dry for hours, others are maybe a little heavier but won’t let a droplet of rain go by even after hours of wearing them.
3. A rainproof hat
While the hat on a sweater or raincoat can do a great job at keeping one dry, some situations ask for a little extra help. At the moment, hats are making quite the comeback and choosing the right rainproof one can mean a real upgrade for a rainy day outfit. Some might choose a bucket hat made out of classic raincoat material, while others might opt for a coated baseball cap or simply a felt classic: as long as it works, it works.
4. Gorpcore to the rescue
Gorpcore, the trend inspiring people to wear their outdoor recreation clothing in a more fashion-minded context, is the perfect trend for rainy days. There’s nothing like a pair of waterproof hiking shoes or – even better – a pair of rain pants to combat autumn in style. It might seem a bit strange at first to wear your adventure-oriented gear to work, but after a while, there’s no going back.
5. A bag to brave the weather
While leather, suède, or textile bags are beautiful, they don’t do well with rain. Treating them with a special waterproofing product might help, but it won’t do wonders.
A special rainproof (back)pack, however, will last for years while keeping everything inside safe and dry. And for those who prefer their normal bag with a little extra protection, there’s always the special rain cover.
