Jules Verne’s ‘Around the world in eighty days’ is a classic and let’s be honest: as a kid, we all dreamt of doing the same. Nowadays, it is not very difficult to travel all around the world and if you choose to do so by plane, it will cost you a lot less time. Yet if you want to see half of the world and make a true journey out of it, you can soon take the bus in London and get off in Delhi, seventy days later.
All too often, we see the voyage to our destination as something boring yet necessary. And that is not quite surprising, as a plane journey is not exactly very interesting. If you travel by train, bus or car though, why not take your time and enjoy the scenery while travelling? That is exactly what Tushar Agarwal and Sanjay Madan, co-founders of Adventures Overland, thought too.
“A lot of people said they wanted to do an overland journey but didn’t want to drive. Handling breakdowns, visa hassles and documentation at borders themselves was a problem. A bus was the obvious solution,” Mr Agarwal said. “Imagine seeing west becoming east, seeing the landscape, the climate, the costumes, food, facial features, changing constantly through the window.”
Hop-on hop-off
That is why Indian travel agency Adventures Overland came with a very spectacular solution. They developed a bus journey that will take you from London all the way to Delhi in seventy days, passing through eighteen different countries. En route, passengers will sleep in comfortable hotels and there will be a giant amount of day trips, allowing you to really experience the journey. And there is more.
The whole voyage is based on a hop-on hop-off principle, which means you could also just embark on part of the trip by getting on later or getting off earlier. It is all up to you. At the moment, the first ride is planned for mid-2021, although everything of course depends on the Covid-19 restrictions by then. It may be a good idea to already start saving up some money though, as the whole trip will cost you a whopping 17.000 euros. Not exactly a budget-friendly option, that is for sure, yet we can only imagine it would be the trip of a lifetime.
