Google is expanding its role in the travel sector with the launch of Flight Deals, a new AI-powered tool designed to help travellers find cheaper airfares without the hassle of endless trial and error searches.
The feature, now rolling out in beta across the United States, Canada and India, allows users to search for flights in plain language. Instead of manually testing different dates, destinations and filters, travellers can simply type in their preferences as if making a request to a friend, and Google’s AI will do the rest.
Searching in everyday language
The tool is aimed squarely at flexible travellers whose main goal is saving money. Google Flights already provides a powerful way to compare fares, but until now users needed to have a clear idea of when and where they wanted to travel. Flight Deals removes that barrier by allowing broad, descriptive searches.
Examples provided by Google include queries such as “week-long trip this winter to a city with great food, nonstop only”or “10-day ski trip to a world-class resort with fresh powder.” The tool then surfaces relevant deals that match the request, even if the destination is not one the user had initially considered.
This capability sets Flight Deals apart from other fare search engines. Powered by Google’s advanced language models, the tool can interpret nuanced requests and apply them against real-time flight data from hundreds of airlines and booking platforms. The result is a curated list of bargains that reflect both the traveller’s intent and current availability.
Real-time savings and new options
Early demonstrations show that the tool can account for specific conditions such as trip length, desired activities and even exclusions. In a test reported by USA Today, a traveller typed “a long weekend trip to somewhere with good hiking, not departing from Newark for less than $500.” The AI correctly parsed the request, filtered out Newark Liberty International Airport, and produced matching options under the price cap.
According to Google, this blend of conversational search and real-time data is what makes Flight Deals unique. It can capture subtleties such as budget preferences, duration, travel style and destination features, offering results that are far more tailored than a generic fare calendar.
Rolling out in beta
For now, the tool is available only in select markets. Google confirmed that users in the U.S., Canada and India will gain access over the next week, with no opt-in required. Travellers can use the tool either directly through the Flight Deals page or via the menu within Google Flights.
The launch is part of a wider effort to integrate AI into travel planning. Google is positioning Flight Deals not as a replacement for Google Flights but as a complementary feature. The company also announced an additional upgrade: the ability to exclude basic economy fares on trips within the U.S. and Canada, giving travellers more control over their search results.
Availability in the European Union
At present, Flight Deals is not available in the EU. Google has confirmed that the initial beta rollout applies only to the United States, Canada and India. The company has not provided a specific timeline for when the tool will be introduced in European markets.
The lack of clarity is significant for European travellers, who make up one of the world’s largest travel markets. Regulatory issues may also play a role. Under the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), Google is under close scrutiny regarding how it presents travel-related results and how its services interact with competitors. Any adjustments required to comply with competition rules could affect both the timing and the format of a European launch.
For now, European users will need to continue using the existing Google Flights search, which remains available globally and continues to receive upgrades, such as the option to exclude basic economy fares in certain markets.
Google’s broader AI travel strategy
This is not the first time Google has used AI to simplify trip planning. In April 2025, Travel Tomorrow reported on the company’s introduction of new AI-driven travel planning tools designed to generate itineraries and personalised trip recommendations ahead of the busy summer season. At that time, the features were aimed primarily at U.S. users.
Flight Deals represents a natural evolution of that strategy, narrowing the focus from broad travel inspiration to practical cost savings. For Google, which has long operated at the intersection of search and commerce, integrating AI into flight booking is a way to cement its position as a go-to resource for budget-conscious travellers.
A new era for deal-hunting?
The introduction of Flight Deals highlights a growing trend in the travel industry: using AI to cut through complexity. As airfare prices fluctuate rapidly and travellers increasingly seek flexible options, tools that can interpret natural language and instantly connect it to live data could reshape how people plan trips.
Still, Flight Deals is very much a work in progress. Google describes the current rollout as a beta phase designed to gather feedback, refine the tool’s performance and gauge demand. For now, international users beyond the three launch markets will need to wait and see if and when the service expands globally.
For those in the U.S., Canada and India, the feature could change the way flight shopping is done. What was once a tedious process of trial and error can now feel more like a simple conversation with AI.
