Etihad Airways will launch the first-ever direct flights between Abu Dhabi and Luxembourg on 29 October 2026, becoming the first Middle Eastern airline to serve the Grand Duchy.
According to the Emirati carrier, the route has been launched in response to growing demand from travellers in Luxembourg, the Benelux region, France, and Germany for direct access to Abu Dhabi.
The service will be operated by Etihad’s newly launched A321LR aircraft. CEO Antonoaldo Neves described the single-aisle aircraft as offering a “truly premium experience” that will enable the airline to “serve markets that were previously unreachable.”

“This route is about more than connectivity – it is about building new bridges between Europe and the UAE, unlocking opportunities for business, tourism, and cultural exchange,” he said.
Etihad has highlighted the appeal of the service in both directions. Travellers from Abu Dhabi will gain direct access to Luxembourg’s UNESCO-listed Old Town and historic castles. Similarly, passengers from Luxembourg will benefit from non-stop access to Abu Dhabi’s flagship attractions, including the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Yas Island, and its beaches and desert landscapes.
Beyond leisure travel, the route carries clear strategic value. Luxembourg is home to major EU institutions, as well as giants of the satellite-leasing, logistics, and private banking industries. A direct connection to Abu Dhabi will save business travellers up to three hours compared with itineraries via Frankfurt or Brussels.
While travellers will enjoy access to the emirate’s luxury hotels and authentic Arabian experiences, Neves highlighted that the service also provides wider connectivity through the airline’s global network.
This new route will give companies based in Luxembourg one-stop access to Etihad’s Asia-Pacific network via Zayed International Airport. This will reduce their reliance on congested European hubs and strengthen Luxembourg’s role as a bridge between Europe and Asia. There will be onward connections to destinations including Singapore, Sydney, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and India.
The A321LR features three cabins: First Class suites with direct aisle access, lie-flat Business Class seats, and next-generation Economy Class cabins equipped with 4K screens, Bluetooth connectivity, and Wi-Fi. The inclusion of a dedicated First Class cabin on a narrow-body aircraft is a very rare and distinctive feature.
Etihad will operate three weekly non-stop flights on the route. From later this year, therefore, Luxembourg will have two direct services to the UAE, as Luxair already operates a seasonal non-stop service to Dubai.
One happy flyer welcomed the news, calling it “amazing. I often travel to Asia, always with Turkish Airlines, but this new route offers more affordable options. I hope it takes off!”
Flights will operate on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, departing from Abu Dhabi at 2:45 am and arriving in Luxembourg at 6:55 am. Return flights will leave Luxembourg at 9:35 am, landing in Abu Dhabi at 7:05 pm.
