From 7 June onwards, Delta Airlines will resume its flights to Israel. Even though the carrier had previously announced to restart flying to Israel from 1 May, it has decided to postpone this date after an extensive security-risk assessment.
Before the start of Israel’s war on Hamas in October 2023, Delta operated multiple flights to Israel a week. Not only were there daily scheduled flights to Tel Aviv from New York and Atlanta, there were also three flights a week departing from Boston.
If flights to Israel will resume on 7 June as planned, temporarily, there will be just one direct flight from New York to Tel Aviv. The New Yrok – Tel Aviv flights will be carried out with an Airbus A330-900. However, whether or not flights will actually resume will greatly depend on how the situation continues to develop in the region. “Delta continues to closely monitor the situation in Israel in conjunction with government and private-sector partners”, the airline saod in a statement.
Since the onset of the conflict in October 2023, some airlines have started to resume flights to and from Israel. Israeli airways were the first to start operating again, followed by flyDubai, Ethiopian Airlines, Etihad Airways, Red Wings, Azimuth Airlines and Uzbekistan Airways in November. Since then, however, airlines have been reluctant to commit to starting operations in Israel again.
British Airways, for example, will only start flights again on 1 April, even though the carrier will do so at a lower pace than usual. It is, however, the only member of the Oneworld Alliance to have announced such a quick return. American Airlines, also a member of Oneworld, will not restart flights to Israel before 26 October.
