The mandatory face mask rule will be lifted from June 9 in the Brussels-capital region. It remains mandatory in high-traffic areas, inside shops and on public transport.
The mayors of the 19 municipalities of the Brussels region and the Minister-President Rudi Vervoort met this afternoon to discuss the evolution of the measures in force in the capital. The mayors will decide, for their municipality, the places where the face masks will remain mandatory.
Vaccination is proceeding apace and the figures are falling

This measure is possible thanks to the latests positive epidemiological developments and the vaccination pace in Brussels. “Starting 9 June it will no longer be mandatory to wear a face covering outside, except in busy shopping streets. We ask everybody to be careful and to act responsibly” said Philippe Close, Mayor of the City of Brussels.
In addition, the ban on alcohol consumption in public areas from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. will also be lifted. These measures will take effect on Wednesday, June 9.
