The Walloon government wants to support the tourism sector with a big boost and as of today, Monday July 5th, every household may be able to receive a “Visit Wallonia Pass” worth 80 euros. The pass can be used on an offer of nearly 800 tourist options. Only restaurants and the Wallonia Shop are excluded.
To obtain one of the 60,000 passes that are available online as of Monday July 5th at 8am, participants will have to fill out the registration form on the website. A QR code will be sent to the participant, who in turn will have to show it at the reception of the particular location in Wallonia.
The amount will then be deducted from the pass. However, the pass has an expiration date and will not be valid after August 31. Any outstanding balance will be lost after this date.
Similar initiatives with passes being offered to thousands of citizens have already taken place. The first one took place in October 2020, while the last one was conducted on May 5th where more than 25,000 passes were distributed in 15 minutes.
To implement this action plan on a large scale, the Walloon government has released 5 million euros with the aim of revitalizing the tourism sector in the south of Belgium.
The Walloon Minister of Tourism, Valerie De Bue, wants to extend this action into 2022. An ambitious budget of 85 million euros has been released for the development of Walloon tourism in the recovery plan.
