Part of a company-wide expansion move in 2024, American Airlines is about to launch a nonstop flight between Dallas, in the United States, and Brisbane, in Australia. The 17-hour-long flight will be the company’s longest nonstop route and will use a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The flights will start operating in October, but tickets are already available.
“American is thrilled to grow our international network to give customers more ways to escape the cold next winter. Together with Qantas, customers can enjoy more ways to explore new destinations across one of the most comprehensive networks connecting the United States and the South Pacific”, stated Brian Znotins, American’s Senior Vice President of Network and Schedule Planning.

So far, only United Airlines operates a nonstop flight from the US to Brisbane, which departes from San Francisco. American Airlines’ Deamliner will be equipped with the 51 Flagship Suite seats and 32 Premium Economy seats, so that passengers will be able to opt for comfort in order to make the journey a little less dreading.
Furthermore, to make the Pacific region even more accessible for its passengers, American Airlines is teaming up with Qantas and proposing flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Vancouver to Australia and New Zealand starting this winter.

However, American Airlines isn’t just focusing on the Pacific alone. The airline is clearly trying to establish better connections between its Texas hub and other international regions. For example, a flight between Dallas-Fort Worth and Veracruz (Mexico) will start operating in June and, during winter, the airport will also be connected to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Kona (Hawaii).
On a larger scale, Dallas-Fort Worth is preparing itself for a surge in passenger traffic. By 2030, the airport wishes to be able to handle 100 million passengers a year, CEO of DFW International Airport Sean Donohue, said at the Skift Aviation Forum in 2023.
