Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching. Whether or not you are into celebrating this so-called day of love is up to you – but just in case you were planning on organising some kind of surprise for your loved one, we put together a little list of 5 out of the ordinary Valentine’s date ideas. We’ll leave the organisation up to you.
1. Organise a stargazing session
Whether you opt for an indoor location at a planetarium just like Rachel and Ross or for a more outdoorsy spot is up to you. But somehow, there’s little that beats looking at the endless night sky with your loved one.
Of course, the whole experience benefits from a bit of comfort so don’t forget to take a picnic blanket, a couple of pillows or even some chairs when you go on your stargazing adventure. And if you want to impress your loved one, you better start reading up on your constellation knowledge.
Full moon will happen on February 12th this year so while you might have a harder time spotting the actual stars, it will undoubtedly be a beautiful night to remember for years to come.
2. Paint and sip
Letting your creativity run freely while enjoying a glass of wine – or anything else you like – has become a bit of a trend recently. Many bars and artsy organisations are putting together their own events and you’ll probably be able to find one close to you on Valentine’s Day.
However, if there’s no such thing in your neighbourhood, if all classes are full already or if you would just like to enjoy a little more privacy, don’t hesitate to install your own little version at home. You could opt for a still life as a painting subject but you could also decide to paint each other. The paintings you make will be a unique keepsake of this year’s Valentine’s Day.
3. Digital detox at a cabin
Screen time often gets the better of us. With so much technology surrounding us day in, day out, we tend to look too little at each other and too much at our smartphones, laptops or other kinds of screens. If you’d like to avoid that on a day as Valentine’s, you could consider booking a little cabin for the two of you, preferably one without television or internet connection.
Leave your phones at home or at least outside of your rental and spend some time together: cook a lovely meal, enjoy the nature sounds outside, sleep in… Chances are that after such a screen-free weekend, you’ll long for more.
4. Enjoy a blindfolded dinner
Did you know that when one of our senses gets silenced, the others tend to compensate that loss by working a little harder? This might not be a scientifically-proven explanation but it certainly is the reasoning behind the blindfolded dinners that are popping up all around the globe: when you’re not able to see, your taste buds will have a better time.
While the concept is trending these days, it might not be so simple to find a blindfolded dinner location close to you and even if it is, chances are it will already be fully booked for Valentine’s Day. However, no need to worry as it is not that difficult to recreate this at home. If you’re thinking about having your own blindfolded dinner, try to stick to a menu that is easy to enjoy even when you’re not seeing anything. Bite-sized portions are probably the way to go, which you can make as simple or complicated as you want. Add a little music in the background and you’re good to go.
5. Dancing lesson
All too often in life, we tend to stick to our habits. Stepping outside of your comfort zone can, however, be great for morale. And when you do it as a couple, it will undoubtedly enhance your mutual connection.
Taking a dancing lesson on Valentine’s Day is the perfect way to create new memories together, to become closer as a couple and to add a little sensuality to your day. Depending on the dancing style you choose, you decide how steamy things will get.
