The Belgian city Bruges or Brugge, nicknamed “Little Venice”, is a beautiful city of classic Flemish houses sitting alongside the canals. The historic city center is a prominent UNESCO World Heritage Site and welcomes more than two million tourists every year. One of my favorite places in Belgium, you can find endless beautiful corners to take photos throughout the city, so here is a list of the 10 most Instagrammable places in Bruges.
1. Rozenhoedkaai
Rozenhoedkaai is definitely the most famous place in Bruges, and you can often see it on postcards or other souvenirs from the city. People love to take selfies here and in all seasons this place is photo worthy.
2. The Market Square
The Market Square is located in the center of the city and surrounded by beautiful buildings with stunning architecture. It is one of the most famous places in Bruges and you can find shops, restaurants, museums as well as the Belfry Tower. The most iconic place is the colorful traditional house, where you can take nice pictures with a nice background.
3. Bonifacius Bridge
This is another iconic place to take selfies and is also well represented in Instagram. This bridge reminiscent of Venice and is easy to find. Located close to The Church of Our Lady, it may be one of the youngest bridges in Bruges but it has become a popular spot for taking pictures and has even featured in some movies.
4. Canals by boat
Exploring the city by boat through the canals is one of the must do activities in Bruges. You can find the boat tour in many places and the tour guide will explain the sights in English and other languages as well as you pass beautiful buildings and follow their history at the same time.
5. Windmills
Besides the canals and beautiful architecture, you should also visit the windmills in Bruges. Although further from the center they are easy to find, and the closest ones to the center are the Bonne Chiere and Sint-Janshuismill. The perfect place for an interesting selfie.
6. Belfry Tower
The Belfry Tower is located in the center of the city at the Market Square and is very famous, having even appeared in some movies, like ‘In Bruges’ with Colin Farrell and Ralph Fiennes which was set in this Tower. You can go to the top and enjoy the view of the city and take some great pictures for your Instagram, but you need to climb 366 steps to reach it!
7. The Lake of Love
The Lake of Love or Minnewater is located near the Bruges Station. People love this place not only because it is so beautiful but also because of the history. A legend tells the story of a young and pretty girl named Minna who was in love with Stromberg, a warrior of a neighboring tribe. She died of exhaustion in his arms not far from the lake, and it was named after her. You can also walk into the park here and there is a Lovers Bridge that is famous for taking pictures with the background of the lake.
8. Walplein Square
Walplein Square is a small square with a few cafes, restaurants, and shops. Although it is small, the charming traditional houses of Bruges and small streets make this place stunning to visit and to take pictures.
9. The Beguinage
This place is a world heritage site and was once the home of the beguines. The white colored houses and the park are idyllic and you can also see the church and museum from here.
10. Burg Square
The buildings in this place represent a variety of architectural styles from the Gothic to Renaissance to the Neo-Classicist. All in the same place, stunning! You can see the Town Hall and others buildings, and during the winter you can see a giant Christmas tree, another excellent place to take selfies!
