Staying healthy while travelling isn’t an easy task. From putting on a decent layer of sunscreen to trying not to eat too much: temptation is everywhere. But one small addition to one’s carry-on might help them on their way – a tennis ball.
As soon as we leave home and arrive at the airport, the challenge of staying healthy while travelling starts. Staying physically active is key to keeping our body safe and sound – ideally, one should be getting up and walking around once every 30 minutes, but this isn’t an easy task when sitting in a taxi towards the airport, when waiting around for hours due to a delayed flight, or when travelling aboard a plane.

Blood circulation is key
To help one’s blood circulation while travelling, there are, however, some other tricks to try out. If getting up and walking around really isn’t a possibility, paying attention to one’s body position can already make a big difference. In other words, sitting up and not crossing one’s legs makes it more difficult for the blood to keep flowing regularly, as it increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis. When such a blood clot travels from the legs to other parts of the body, the condition can actually be life-threatening.
Packing a tennis ball in one’s carry-on luggage is another way of staying on top of healthy blood circulation. No, the ball is not meant for a tennis match thousands of feet in the air, but can instead be used to massage legs, arms, feet, neck, and all other body parts that might need it. The fairly hard, easy-to-pack ball can be rolled over any limbs needing a hand with blood circulation or aching due to the not always very comfortable travel circumstances. When putting it between the airplane seat and one’s back, it could even help alleviate the most painful backaches.

While a tennis ball is a lot easier and lighter to pack than a massage gun, which will do the trick just as well and maybe even better, not everyone has room left in their luggage for a little extra accessory. In that case, a massage by hand can be carried out to ease the voyage.
As handy as it might be, a tennis ball is not the only thing that should be present in a piece of hand luggage. Things such as prescription drugs, passport, and an emergency outfit should always be kept at hand no matter the flight duration.
