Viking has announced its first-ever river voyages in India, aboard a brand new 80-guest vessel scheduled for launch in late 2027. The Viking Brahmaputra will sail between Guwahati and Nimati Ghat in the northeastern state of Assam as part of Viking’s new 15-day Wonders of India itinerary. In addition to an eight-day river voyage, the itinerary includes a fully-guided land program with overnights in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Currently under construction, the Viking Brahmaputra will boast 40 outside staterooms and feature the signature Scandinavian design for which Viking, founded by Norwegian Torstein Hagen, is known. According to a press release, “all staterooms and suites will have floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors with a veranda.” Guests on the three-deck cruise ship will also be able to access a range of amenities, including a Spa & Fitness Centre and an open-air Sky Bar on the Upper Deck.

“With its rich heritage, deep cultural traditions and fascinating natural wonders, India is a vast and vibrant country that has captured the imagination of explorers for centuries,” Hagen said, noting: “In recent years, our guests have particularly enjoyed visiting Indian ports on our ocean itineraries. We are now delighted to introduce a new way for curious travellers to explore the heart of this phenomenal country, in-depth and in Viking comfort.”
Hagen often describes the experiences Viking offers as “For The Thinking Person.” The company is the only travel operator worldwide to simultaneously receive World’s Best and #1 honours from both Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure. The new Indian itinerary must now live up to that reputation.

Operating as a round trip from Delhi, and with hotel stays in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur, the trip includes 13 tours during which guests will have the opportunity to discover India’s cultural treasures and experience as many as 10 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
As well as Delhi’s winding streets, the country’s historic Golden Triangle, and Agra’s iconic Taj Mahal, the itinerary will take in Jaipur’s Palace of Winds, Guwahati’s temple, and allow guests to encounter the villages along the Brahmaputra River’s banks. Wildlife is part of the attraction, too. Cruisers might spot the one-horned rhinos and buffalo of Kaziranga National Park and visit Majuli, one of the world’s largest river islands.
Booking is open now through 31 July 2025, with special deals available for would-be North American voyagers, who can benefit from savings of up to $5,000 per couple plus airfare from $999, with a $25 deposit.
