Following the voting results of the UNWTO Regional Commission for Europe, representatives from Uzbekistan and Hungary were unanimously elected as vice-presidents of the 24th session of the UNWTO General Assembly due in Morocco in the fourth quarter of 2021.

Over the past four years, the Uzbek government has taken a series of measures to boost tourism, intending to receive more than 9 million foreign tourists by 2025, boosting the share of the tourism industry to 5 percent of gross domestic product, up from 2.3 percent in 2017, according to the Uzbek State Tourism Committee.
