While the world is reigned by COVID-19, lots of us have decided to limit ourselves to a staycation this year. After all, taking a plane is not exactly fun at the moment and on top of that, the health crisis also has serious financial consequences for a lot of people. But clearly, not all of us are created equally – at least not on the financial side of things.
Contrary to normal people, most celebs still have a bulging bank account. Some of them even have a private plane. Meaning that for them, going on a holiday is not exactly difficult, not even during these uncertain times. Just like us, most celebrities do have a favorite holiday destination though. So if you want to cross paths with one of them, you have to pick the right spots. If you are living in Europe, you are in luck, because some of the most well-known people prefer to spend their summer days on the coasts of France, Italy and so on. We picked three celebs, tell you where to find them on your next holiday and – bonus – give you some extra tips about the destination as well.
1. Capri, Italy: Mariah Carey
The Italian island Capri, located in the Bay of Naples, surely is dreamy. The combination of vividly colored houses, clear blue seawater and rough rocks turns it into the perfect postcard destination. And let’s not forget the mouthwatering Italian cuisine which you can enjoy on one of the many terraces overlooking the bay.
It is no surprise that celebrities too have discovered this little piece of paradise. One of the many famous people who regularly pays a visit to this part of the world is Mariah Carey. The ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’-singer particularly likes to pay a visit to Capri with her personal yacht, while she – of course – enjoys everything the Italian island has to offer.
If you want to follow in her footsteps, make sure to book a table at restaurant Aurora. Carey likes to order the pizza all’acqua, the house specialty. The pizza is wafer-thin and features chili peppers and mozzarella cheese. Afterwards, head over to VV Club and show your best dance moves – just like the singer did a couple of year ago.
2. Antibes, France: Leonardo DiCaprio
Chances are, you have heard about the Côte d’Azur or French Riviera in the past. With cities as Marseille, Nice and Cannes, the southeastern Mediterranean coast of France is not exactly a well-kept secret. Yet that does not mean that you should not at least once in your life pay a visit to this magnificent coastline. With its palm tree-covered promenades longing the beaches, its typical striped parasols and pastis-filled jugs, the French Riviera has a certain charm you cannot deny.
Just like us, Leonardo DiCaprio fell for the French je ne sais quoi. He spends a lot of his holiday time at Antibes, a resort town nestled in between Cannes and Nice. He has been spotted countless times navigating his yacht through the crystal-clear water and enjoying a cup of coffee with fellow celebs like Bono and Jack Nicholson. He even chose Antibes as the base for his charity foundation, The Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
Even though you probably will not get the chance to grab a coffee with Bono, you can nonetheless experience Antibes the Leonardo way. In the past, the actor stayed at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc with his girlfriend Camila Morrone. Looking at the pictures (including a stretch of private shore, a tennis court and a simply splendid pool), we get the appeal of the place. It does come at a price though, so be sure to have a well-filled wallet on hand.
3. Mustique, Caribbean: William and Kate
If you immediately think about ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’, you are not the only one, let me reassure you. But all jokes aside, the Caribbean islands definitely make up for a dreamy, tropical destination. Sandy white beaches, palm trees and an always summer-worthy climate: yes please. Add to that some exotic animal species and a bunch of coral reefs and we are packing our bags already.
Although the Caribbean has a bunch of paradisiac islands on offer, the royal couple William and Kate prefer to spend their holidays on Mustique. This privately-owned island not only has a world-class security system but is also equipped with all the luxuries you can dream of. Whether you want to go scuba diving or enjoy a culinary dinner, this is where you want to be. The couple has been coming to Mustique since 2008 and gets attracted by its charms time and time again.
A holiday on Mustique is not for everyone. As we said, the island is privately-owned and you can only visit by booking some kind of accommodation. William and Kate have previously stayed at Cotton House hotel, a magnificent property where you can choose from a variety of options, ranging from a superior room to one of the cottages. Of course, the resort has everything your heart desires: from a spa to a pool and a private beach, it is all there. If you really want to splurge, you could also book Villa Antilles. The house, which is owned by a personal friend of William, comes amongst others with a live-in chef, a butler and an infinity pool. Rumor has it, a one-week rental will cost you a whopping $27.000, so start saving up already.
