If you’re single, there are certain days in the year which can feel a little weird or awkward. Take Christmas for example: each and every year, your grandma can’t help but ask you when you’ll finally take a plus one. You don’t really know what to answer, as you’re afraid she won’t understand your eccentric dating history. She senses she’s touched upon a delicate matter and ends the silence by tapping you on the shoulder, saying “you’ll meet someone soon enough”. Recognizable for many of us no doubt and alas, the awkwardness isn’t limited to Christmas.
When just a couple of weeks later, Valentine’s Day hits, singles are hit with a whole different kind of awkward. Most of your friends and family are out on a date with their loved one and you’re left with a couple of options.
- Option 1: you stay at home, take a night for yourself and be fine with it.
- Option 2: you and your other single friends make an alternative Valentine out of the situation, celebrating friendship and what not.
- Option 3: you meet someone (online) and go on a date together on Valentine’s Day, ignoring the fact that this somehow takes things to a more serious level from the start.
Speed dating record
If you’re living in Brussels or close by, luckily, this year you’ve got a fourth possible scenario to be part of. Dare to Date is organizing the world’s largest speed dating event on February 14th in Tour & Taxis, giving you the opportunity to be a part of a great once-in-a-lifetime event on the one hand and to possibly meet your other half on the other hand. Feels like a win-win situation to us, so let’s take a look at the details.
If you’re interested, tickets cost 26 euros and are available on Dare to Date website. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be matched with around 15 people. During the actual event, you’ll get about 6 minutes time per potential match, during which you should try to find out whether or not you’d want to meet the person in front of you a second time. Afterwards, you’ll get a list of names and you’ll be able to indicate which daters got your interest and which didn’t. If you’re both up for a second date, you’ll get each other’s details and you’ll be able to arrange a meet-up.
Dare to Date will be trying to beat the world record for the largest speed dating event, which is currently set on 964 daters during an event in Ireland.
