During an episode of ‘Good Morning America’, the people behind Google Flights shared the top 20 travel destinations for Americans in 2024. The insights are based on flight booking data and search trends by U.S. travellers between June 1st and August 31st 2024. According to Google Flights, the top 20 might be able to help those who still haven’t planned their summer holiday pick a destination or itinerary for the summer months.
As trends change, so do our travel plans. Therefore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the top 20 looks slightly different compared to last year. While in 2023, Cancun came out at the top of the list, the Mexican destination has now descended to sixth place. Tokyo, on the other hand, has made it into the top three, proving the Japanese city is on the rise. There are also three newcomers on the list this year: San Juan, Puerto Rico and Madrid.
1. London | 11. Los Angeles |
2. Paris | 12. Miami |
3. Tokyo | 13. Barcelona |
4. Rome | 14. Dublin |
5. New York | 15. Fort Lauderdale |
6. Cancun | 16. Honolulu |
7. Orlando | 17. Denver |
8. Las Vegas | 18. Madrid |
9. Seattle | 19. Boston |
10. Athens | 20. San Juan |
In order to put together the yearly ranking, Google Flights gathered information from mid-January to mid-March from U.S. users. By doing so, they not only find out where people are actually going to but also where they dream of going to. According to Google, the search terms ‘travel itinerary’ and ‘solo travel’ have never been as popular as this January. As far as weekend getaways go, Palm Spring and Florida Keys have proven to be favourites, while Napa and Key West score great for romantic getaways. Finally, La Romana and Saint John scored best as far as all-inclusive resorts go.
