On December 6, 2020, the city of Tashkent will host the Second Tashkent International Marathon, which was scheduled for March 22nd but had to be postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The event is organized by the Uzbekistan Athletics Federation in cooperation with the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Tourism Development. Earlier this year, the Samarkand Charity Half Marathon took place virtually.
The Tashkent International Marathon will be organized in 2 distances: the classic marathon for men and women with a distance of 42,195 meters and a half marathon with a distance of 21,097.5 meters. The marathon distances are certified by the Association of International Marathons and Runs AIMS, which is a member of the International Association of Athletics Federations World Athletics. A new format, in online mode, will be designed for a distance of 3,000 meters.
Participants of the marathon will start from the site located at the intersection of Afrasiyab and Beshyagach streets, opposite the Humo Arena Ice Palace. For marathon and half marathon distances, a time limit will be set. Athletes must to cover the distance during this time. The age of the marathon and half marathon participants is from 18 years and older. All interested athletes can take part in the marathon, regardless of the host country.
The prize fund of the II Tashkent International Marathon will be distributed as follows:
- 1st place – 30 million soums
- 2nd place – 20 million soums
- 3rd place – 10 million soums
All winners will be awarded medals and prizes.
All safety measures for participants, judges and volunteers will be observed. The organizing committee, together with law enforcement and medical institutions, have pledged to ensure a safe event.
