Silversea, a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean, has unveiled Silver Nova, which, according to the company, is “the most environmentally conscious ultra-luxury cruise ship ever built”.
The Silver Nova is only one of two ships equipped with Royal Caribbean Group’s latest waste management technology. The systems, Microwave-Assisted Pyrolysis (MAP) and Micro Auto Gasification (MAG), debuting on the Silver Nova and Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas, will take waste on board and convert it into synthesis gas (syngas) that the ship can directly use as energy. Much like land-based waste-to-energy facilities, the result is repurposing waste in an efficient and sustainable way. An additional bioproduct of the system, biochar, can also be used as a soil nutrient.
Silver Nova introduces an industry-leading approach to sustainability, an unprecedented openness to the world, and an entirely new take on luxury at sea.
Barbara Muckermann, President of Silversea
Silver Nova is scheduled to depart on her maiden voyage on 14 August, sailing round-trip from Fusina (Venice) over seven days. After unlocking immersive experiences in the Mediterranean for guests, Silversea’s newest addition will cross the Atlantic to the United States of America, undertaking voyages in the Caribbean and Central America, before embarking upon on the 71-day Grand Voyage South America 2024 on 4 January 2024.
Promising to be one of the most spacious cruise ships ever built, the Silver Nova can accommodate up to 728 guests. The vessel’s innovative asymmetrical design allows for unprecedented passenger connectivity to the destinations it visits with luxurious interiors and many outdoor venues. Passenger comfort is assured with the largest offering of suite types in Silversea’s history, among the most spacious in the cruise industry, and a collection of prized aft suites affording stunning 270-degree ocean and land views.
Other amenities will include Otium, Silversea’s wellness program, and S.A.L.T., an immersive culinary concept bringing destination authenticity to the ship’s cuisine through locally sourced products, market trips and visiting chef demonstrations. According to Silversea’s executives, Silver Nova will take both raved-review concepts to “the next level.”
