Building on a successful partnership for UEFA Euro 2020, Qatar Airways has announced it remains the official airline partner for this year’s European Championship.
The tournament takes place in Germany, from 14 June through 14 July, with the final being held in Berlin. This will be the 17th edition of the tournament, with 51 matches scheduled to take place across 10 cities in Germany, during which 2.5 million guests and fans are expected.
“As the Official Airline Partner of the men’s national competitions, Qatar Airways is committed to bringing thousands of fans to Germany for this prestigious event”, said airline CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. “This partnership underscores our dedication to connecting people across our extensive network of over 170 destinations. With the addition of Hamburg to our operations from 01 July 2024, we are further enhancing our commitment to the region and supporting this exciting tournament.”
Together with the partnership, the airline has also announced the introduction of a new permanent route to Hamburg, bringing the total of German destinations served to 5. This makes 49 cities across Europe served by the Qatari flag carrier, and 170 around the world.
The airline has an extensive portfolio of sporting events partnerships. It has been a partner of FIFA since May 2017, supporting several competitions, such as the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019, the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2019 and 2020, the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021, the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and, most recently, the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023.
In July 2023, the airline announced a record profit of $1.21 billion for the year 2022-2023, partly attributing the positive result to the success of the partnership with FIFA for the World Cup Qatar 2022. Besides plane tickets, the airline offered special travel packages for fans of the tournament, including accommodation and seats for matches throughout the event.
Over the period of the World Cup 2022, the airline operated some 14,000 flights bringing more than 1.4 million fans from all over the world to Qatar. Additionally, contributing to the annual turnover, the group renewed a multi-year partnership with French football team Paris Saint-Germain and replaced Emirates as the Global Airline Partner for Formula 1 for the next five years.
