Paris will host the Olympics in 2024 and the organizing committee is looking for volunteers from all over the world. According to the organization, 45,000 people will be selected to help at the Olympic Games (July 26 and August 11, 2024), and at the Paralympics Games (August 28 to September 8, 2024). The assignment will be unpaid and selected applicants would need to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses. According to Euronews, local public transport will be free of charge on volunteering days. Participants will also receive meal vouchers.
Applicants must be over 18 years old by January 1st, 2024. They must speak French or English and be available for at least ten days during the Olympic or Paralympic Games. Applications can be made by residents of France or internationally. The portal is already accepting applications until May 3rd, 2023.
Volunteers will be at the heart of the greatest sporting event on the planet and contributing to its success.
Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 organizing committee
The committee stressed that the vacancies are inclusive and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply, as the aim is to “recruit a diverse workforce” in a program open to all. What is important to the organization is that applicants have good interpersonal skills to welcome other people.
The selected volunteers will be sent to work in different venues across France, including cities such as Lyon, Nice, Marseille and Bordeaux. According to the Olympics Committee, the professionals will perform several activities, such as “welcoming and guiding spectators and accredited persons, assisting sports delegations, accompanying athletes to competition venues and press operations, transporting accredited persons, supporting timing activities, participating in the distribution of equipment, providing medical assistance,” among others.
“Our volunteers will be at the heart of the greatest sporting event on the planet and directly contributing to its success,” Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 organizing committee told Euronews. “The positive energy transmitted by volunteers is unique and they will be the face of the Games.”
The estimated time to complete the application is 30 to 45 minutes. The form has different parts, the first being for personal information. It is necessary to confirm identity, address, skills, availability, and size of clothes and shoes to wear the uniform. The second part has questions to define the functions that best fit the candidate’s profile. This includes two series of 90 questions and takes about 20 minutes. According to the event’s organization, most of the activities do not require technical knowledge and the focus is on interpersonal skills. Some jobs, however, require specific qualifications, such as familiarity with specific sports rules, medical knowledge, or a driver’s license.
Once the professional skills and questions have been filled in, the form should be completed and submitted. The application period closes on May 3rd, 2023. Applicants should receive a response from the organizing committee between September and December of this year.
