Fans of HBO’s hit series, The White Lotus, have a reason to celebrate as the show is officially set to return for a fourth season. While official details are scarce, speculation is already swirling about the show’s next luxury destination.
Following seasons in Hawaii, Italy, and Thailand, creator Mike White is rumoured to have chosen France for the new season, making a return to Europe after Sicily’s San Domenico Palace, a Four Seasons property, in season 2. The luxury hotel group has been a consistent backdrop for the HBO hit so far, thanks to an ongoing partnership with HBO, though season 3 also included Anantara portfolio locations.
Every season of the series centres on affluent travellers who arrive at a lavish resort under the fictional White Lotus banner. Their idyllic getaways inevitably unravel into a swirl of scandal, tension, and murder. France’s elegance, with its blend of historic charm and modern opulence, perfectly suits the show’s aesthetic of indulgent chaos. Filming has historically taken place at Four Seasons properties, and France offers three distinct options.
Two of the properties are in areas not yet explored by The White Lotus. One is situated in the heart of Paris, and another in a ski town near the Swiss and Italian borders. The third, and most likely, is near the French Riviera. Though Mike White prefers warm, scenic locales, he’s hinted at moving beyond the “crashing-waves-of-rocks” vibe while keeping the signature White Lotus drama.
First and most obvious choice for now is Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat. If it is chosen for the set, the new season is expected to be quite aesthetic. Built on top of a hill overlooking the Mediterranean, the hotel boasts over 14 acres of private gardens, a Michelin-starred restaurant, a pool club, and stunning sea views.
Alternatively, Hotel George V in Paris offers unique Eiffel Tower views and Art Deco elegance. Located in the Golden Triangle, just steps from the historic Champs-Élysées, it offers 244 rooms, three restaurants boasting a total of six Michelin stars, a private wine cellar, a marble courtyard, as well as a pool and spa.
Though a long shot, Four Seasons Hotel Megève could bring a fresh twist to the series, namely a unique Alpine setting. A sudden snowstorm trapping guests indoors would be classic White Lotus chaos. The hotel isn’t just a winter destination; it also thrives in summer, set on Mont d’Arbois with world-class golf courses nearby.
No official location for the next season of The White Lotus has been confirmed, but the possibility of France has ignited a buzz online. French social media users are excitedly speculating and sharing their ideal cast members for a France-based season.
