This morning, the first round of Covid-19 vaccines arrived at Bole International Airport, an operation coordinated by Ethiopian Airlines. Africa’s biggest carrier converted passengers aircrafts into cargo transport. “We have aircrafts converted from passengers by removing their seats, 16 of them, which are very wide aircrafts converted to transport vaccines,” Fitsum Abadi, the managing director of Ethiopian Cargo, reported to Reuters.
The crew was welcomed by the Minister of Health, Dr. Lia Tadesse, state ministers, representatives of World Health Organization, World Bank, UNICEF, African CDC and others.
“The vaccine will be available for the most vulnerable groups in society: to health workers and staff, people with chronic illness and older people” stressed Dr. Lia Tadesse.
The immunization schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
