Renowned for the tomb of Tutankhamun, Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings, the city of Luxor in Egypt will be added to easyJet’s flight destination list for the first time in over a decade. The airline will begin flying twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays to Luxor from Gatwick Airport as of 11 November. The announcement comes as part of the unveiling of 40 other new routes in the last month from the UK across Europe and North Africa.
“We’re delighted to be launching even more new routes from airports across the UK to a fantastic range of leisure destinations, meaning we’re now offering over 41 new routes including three brand new destinations on our network from this winter,” said Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager.
Visitors will be able to enjoy many of Egypt’s landmarks with ease as easyJet are also launching first-time river cruise packages down the Nile River, in collaboration with Jaz Hotels and Resorts. The cruise begins from Luxor, travels down to Edfu and Aswan, then loops back to Luxor for a visit to the open-air museum of Karnak to end the experience.
“Our new Nile cruises make the grandeur of ancient Egypt more accessible than ever with a range of options to choose from, including the Iberotel Crown Empress and the Jaz Crown Jubilee,” announced Paul Bixby, chief commercial officer at easyJet Holidays.
The airline made the announcement by placing three people dressed as the Ancient Egyptian deity, Anubis, in various central London spots, including Cleopatra’s Needle by the River Thames. The figures were holding placards saying “Why settle for the Thames when you can explore the Nile?” or “Fake Sphinx! See the real thing”, strategically mixing with the many commuters in some of London’s busiest locations.
The airline is further expanding its flight options to Egypt from Liverpool, introducing a winter service to the Sharm El Sheikh holiday resort. The flight path will begin on 14 February 2025, operating on Mondays and Fridays. This means easyJet will provide more opportunities to travel from the UK to Egypt than any other airline.
