Delta has revealed a fresh look for its cabins, with a new colour scheme, new lighting, new cabin fabrics and signature branding.
The new interior design, described as a “nose-to-tail transformation based on extensive feedback and research”, comes as the airline prepares to celebrate its centennial anniversary. Its gift to flyers is “a cabin experience that reflects our customers’ changing expectations and lifestyles.”
A new look for a new century
“Delta has a 100-year history of creating a customer experience that feels welcoming and thoughtful with intentional design elements woven into every aspect of a customer’s travel,” said Mauricio Parise, Vice-President for Customer Experience Design. “As we embark on our next century of flying, this refreshed cabin interior infuses utility with beauty to create an atmosphere that feels fresh, elevated, and timeless while reflecting our customers’ evolving tastes and expectations.”
Featuring strongly are engineered leather and breathable nylon and wool blends that help regulate temperature, as well as memory foam cushions. The natural materials, stitching and accent stripes contribute to a new aesthetic that draws on “ a softer, warmer and more modern colour palette” that keeps “accents of Delta’s original heritage colours throughout” a “fresh, clean and elegant” environment.
Mood lighting and Azure Blue lavatories
Those surroundings will be further enhanced by the lighting, which has been chosen to create a “cohesive and calming onboard environment,” the press release says, going on to promise that “With mood lighting designed to suit each phase of the flight, customers will feel well-grounded and better adjusted to their time zone.”
And when it comes to lavatories, they will also be given an overhaul, with an accent wall opposite the mirror in the airline’s “Celestial Sky” pattern. Cabinets will be in a fresh and modern Azure Blue. Underfoot meanwhile, the flooring is a smooth material that boasts improved cleanliness and better non-slip qualities.
“A singular experience”
The new design will first be rolled out on a narrowbody Boeing 757 aircraft flying domestic and short-haul international routes starting this autumn, before coming to the widebody Airbus A350 and long-haul routes early in 2025, Delta said. The aim is to update the entire fleet with the new look to ensure a coherent feel for all flyers.
“Our goal is to create a singular experience across our diverse fleet, not just a unique subset. When customers step onboard, they will know what to expect and what to look forward to, regardless of the type of plane that their flight is operated on,” the airline said.
