As the 2025 French- and Dutch-speaking school holidays approach, Brussels Airport is gearing up for “heavy passenger traffic”, with over 5.1 million passengers expected through the Belgian hub in July and August alone.
A press release from the airport highlights the 180 direct destinations it’s connecting to this summer season. With the increase in passenger traffic estimated at five per cent, and the busiest days anticipated to fall on 27 June and 28 July, the airport is putting in place a summer plan to ensure all journeys go as smoothly as possible.
Approved by Interior Minister Bernard Quintin, the plan aims to increase the number of Federal Police staff in order to limit waiting times at border controls and get travellers on their way quickly.
A new information desk is also available in the departures hall, where agents welcome passengers every day from 6 am to 9 pm. They are on hand to answer questions about flights, airport services or travel tips, the airport said.
Topping the list of popular destinations from Brussels are: Spain, Türkiye, Greece, Italy and Morocco. They are followed closely by Portugal, Tunisia, Egypt and Croatia. Long-haul connections the airport namechecks are Curaçao, Bangkok, and Singapore. New routes include the Delta Air Lines flight to Atlanta on offer since 11 June, and Cathay Pacific is set to launch a direct route between Brussels and Hong Kong on 4 August.
Many of the preparations that can contribute to a seamless travel experience are under passengers’ control, the airport points out. Its advice to flyers is to get ready in advance for their departure by reserving any required parking spaces ahead of time; using public transport if possible; and being well aware of rules regarding hand luggage.
The airport has also introduced what it calls a “practical new feature”: the BRUce chatbot can analyse a photo of an item to know at a glance whether it complies with the rules for hand luggage.
When it comes to treating the occasion with a light-hearted touch, the airport has provided a large installation with the letters “Brussels Airport” (on the curb outside the departures hall). For anyone in dire need of a coffee and a sweet boost to get through the journey, they point out that’s right next to a Dunkin’ Donuts pop-up.
In July, an exclusive Tomorrowland pop-up will bring a “festival atmosphere to Pier A” the press release notes. That’s alongside family-friendly refrenshments at Bar Festiv. Pier A also boasts a renovated Kids Play & Care area. featuring Smurf-themed play areas, baby-care facilities and comfortable seating for breastfeeding mothers. Meanwhile in Pier B, there’s a brand-new Burger King.
