One of the things when travelling that adds up to the whole experience is definitely accommodation. Whether you are camping or staying at luxurious hotels and resorts, it is always nice to stay at a place with charm and character that enriches your trip. However, sometimes the character of the place also comes from some sinister events that took happened there, leaving its mark forever. Some places are even believed to be haunted, with strange or even paranormal activities happening, with people hearing noises and sounds though no one is there and even having sights of what is to believe to be ghosts of people that were once there. Here we bring you a few hotels that around the world with such stories to tell – would you be brave enough to sleep there?
1. The Shelbourne, Dublin, Ireland
One of the most beautiful and luxurious Dublin hotels, the Shelbourne, is known for many wonderful things – from the its history and exquisite style and decoration to the fact that it hosted numerous stars and royalty such as Princess Grace of Monaco. However, one of the things this gorgeous hotels is known for is also that is supposedly gets quite frequent reports of a paranormal activity such water faucets turning and even a child appearing from nowhere. Stayin there in 2013, the actress Lily Collins had a strange experience herself which she described on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.
2. Grand Hyatt Hotel, Taipei
Located right next to the famous Taipei 101 in the vibrant Xinyi district, the Grand Hyatt Hotel is truly impressive. Impressive is also the story connected to it though in a eerie way. There were reports of many guests about strange activities in the bathrooms like toilets flushing by themselves and spooky sounds coming from bothe inside and outside of the rooms. As the story goes, a prison camp during WWII was on this land where many executions took place. However, according to Grand Hyatt, the legend is untrue as local historians confirmed that there were no prison camps on or near the ground and there was a military factory there. In any case, the gorgeous hotels is receiving numerous positive reviews for it excellece, so maybe it’s best to check out the story yourself when in Taipei.
3. Hotel Marroad International, Narita, Japan
Located very close to a busy Narita Airport, Hotel Marroad International is considered to be a great transit hotel in Japan. While waiting for your next flight you can enjoy beitiful views of runway, go to the gym and sauna or just rest. That is, if you can sleep with some strange noises that were reported by several guests, thinking the hotel might be haunted. This comes as no surprise as the hotel holds a very gruesome story behind the doors of Room 1272. Namely, in 1999, members of a cult occupied this room, refusing housekeeping for several months and ignoring the request of the management to vacate the room. Finally, the police were called to enter and they had a horrible sight – there was a mummified corpse in the room, laying on the bed in a bathrobe and illuminated by candlelight. It was a late father of one of the cult members and they still treated him as alive – the police later confirmed that the person was dead at least for four months before the discovery.
4. Grand Hotel Europe, St. Petersburg
Imagine mistaking a ghost for a porter – this apparetnly sometimes happens in the luxurious five-star Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg. The hotel was built on the place of a previous lodge where strange sounds like squeaks and moans were reported ever since 1706. when guests would hear and witness horrifying things like footsteps in the attic, moans, and squeaks. According to the legend, a resident once went to the attic and saw a ghost of the Belyaev- Tolstoy, an officer that was killed. This promoted the owner to sell the inn and on this place the new Grand Hotel Europe was built – however, seems that the ghost liked the new hotel as well and decided to stay.
5. The Langham, London
According to Visit Britain, ghosts have been long associated to this beautiful, over 150 year old hotel. There are many reports of unnatural events, such as lights turning on an off for no apparent reason as well as strange sounds and even a fee members of the English national cricket team whi stayed there in 2014, reported sudden heat and lights as well as feeling the strange presence during the night.
So when staying here, be prepared for some unexpected events – though it is believed that the ghosts here are elite ones like Emperor Louis Napoleon III, former resident here and a German prince who ended his life jumping from the window.
