Global financial technology company Revolut is set to open its first branded lounge at Copenhagen Airport in 2027. In collaboration with the Plaza Premium Group, other European launches are expected to follow.
Since its launch in 2015, Revolut has been concentrating on mobile banking. Bundling foreign exchange, payments, accounts, and cards in one single app, the global fintech company says to currently serve some 75 million customers.
While Revolut thus mainly functions online, the company has recently been doing efforts to go offline. After the announcement of its first physical store in Barcelona (Spain), the banking app is now planning on opening its first branded airport lounge.
“Revolut is changing perceptions about finance – our 75 million customers can attest to that. Of those, many are frequent flyers, and we want to continually improve their experience using our product. Everyone agrees airport lounges tend to underwhelm, we want to bring our design ethos into the real world, and will be creating something gutsy and beautiful,” Hadi Nasrallah, Director of Product GP & New Bets at Revolut, told c.
In order to reach that goal, Revolut is partnering with Copenhagen Airport and Plaza Premium Group. The lounge is expected to open in 2027 and should become the largest common-use lounge in the Schengen area.
“Unveiling Revolut’s latest “New Bet”, Revolut Lounges! It will be unique, gutsy, and super cool. We’re announcing Copenhagen today (will open in 2027), more will come soon. As ever, we’ll listen to our users, if there are any features you’d be keen on in a Revolut Lounge, I’ll make certain they are considered, just ensure they are in line with the description above,” Nasrallah said in a LinkedIn post.
Until now, Revolut customers could already gain access to over 1,000 airport lounges across the globe. While Ultra subscribers are offered unlimited complimentary entry, Premium and Metal customers can buy discounted passes, while Standard and Plus users have to pay for lounge access. Once the branded lounge opens, it is unclear whether all Revolut users will gain guaranteed or complimentary access.
Revolut will be working with Plaza Premium Group as an operating and investing partner. The company has been able to secure Skytrax’s top independent lounge award from 2016 to 2025 and can thus easily be considered as an expert on the matter.
By choosing Copenhagen Airport as its first location, Revolut is showing its willingness to expand its presence on the Nordic market. The airports single-terminal design handles approximately 30 million travellers per year, serving 184 destinations. Its Schengen-zone currently counts four lounges: Aspire Lounge, Carlsberg Aviator Lounge, Danske Bank Aviator Business Lounge, and SAS Lounge.
“We are pleased to welcome Revolut’s first branded airport lounge to Copenhagen Airport. We share a common ambition to put passengers first and to continuously enhance the airport experience. The new Revolut Lounge will bring another high-quality offering to our travellers and support our commitment to delighting passengers through comfort, convenience and exceptional service,” said Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer at Copenhagen Airport, in a statement to FinTech Magazine.
If successful, the Copenhagen Revolut lounge will act as a blueprint for a more extensive European network.
