Brightline has unveiled a special train to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States. The train, called the Freedom Express, is now running across Florida as part of the national ‘America 250 celebrations’. The United States will celebrate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
The Freedom Express is a 10-coach passenger train wrapped in a large patriotic design. The wrap shows a timeline of important moments in American history. The design was created in partnership with America250, the national organisation established by the US Congress to lead the anniversary commemorations. The goal is to bring history directly to communities as the train travels between major cities.
Each of the ten coaches highlights a different historical event. One section shows the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the original thirteen colonies formally declared independence from Great Britain. Another coach illustrates George Washington crossing the Delaware River during the Revolutionary War, a key military moment in the fight for independence. Passengers can also see Abraham Lincoln delivering the Gettysburg Address during the American Civil War, a short but powerful speech about equality and national unity. The design turns the train into what Brightline describes as a rolling timeline.

Rail history is also represented on board. One coach honours the 1869 Golden Spike Ceremony, which marked the completion of the first transcontinental railroad, a railway line that connects the east and west coasts, in the United States. The ceremony symbolised how rail helped unite the nation across vast distances. By including this moment, the Freedom Express connects past railway achievements with modern passenger rail development in Florida.
Other coaches celebrate milestones in innovation and civil rights. The train features the Wright brothers’ first powered flight in 1903, widely recognised as the beginning of modern aviation. Another scene shows the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969, when astronauts first set foot on the Moon. The Freedom Express also honours Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. In addition, imagery of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island represents the history of immigration to the United States.
The inaugural journey of the Freedom Express took place on 16 February 2026, Presidents’ Day in the United States. The ceremonial trip connected Orlando and Miami and welcomed community leaders, first responders, and transport representatives on board. “Brightline is honoured to help lead this national celebration and mark a pivotal moment in how America connects and moves,” said Patrick Goddard, CEO of Brightline Florida. “This is one of the most meaningful and visually powerful train wraps yet, and we’re proud to share it with communities across the state of Florida.”

The Freedom Express will remain in regular service across Brightline’s Florida routes through July 2026. Travellers booking tickets between Orlando, West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura, and Miami may find themselves riding the commemorative train. Brightline has confirmed that the Freedom Express will rotate within its normal operations rather than function as a separate service. This means every day passengers can experience the anniversary tribute as part of their regular journey.
The rail company is also partnering with cultural institutions such as the HistoryMiami Museum during the anniversary year. The museum plans to display original documents from the founding era as part of the wider celebrations. These initiatives aim to connect transport, culture, and education. Across the country, other commemorative projects are also taking shape. British architect Norman Foster has designed a time capsule placed beneath the Washington Monument as a symbolic gift marking the anniversary, showing how the milestone is being observed internationally as well as within the United States.
Brightline has previously used creative train wraps to mark special occasions and partnerships. Past designs have included art-inspired themes and collaborations with travel brands. With the Freedom Express, the company links its modern passenger service to key chapters of American history. As the United States prepares for a year of nationwide events, the train offers a moving tribute that combines travel with storytelling across Florida’s growing rail network.
