The Great Crossing of Douro International and Vinhateiro (Grande Travessia do Douro Internacional e Vinhateiro) will have an extension of 275 km crossing three rivers (Douro, Sabor and Tua) and seven counties from the Alto Douro Vinhateiro going into the protected area of Douro International. It will have support centers with changing rooms, toilets and service stations.
With the vineyards in the background, the rock art and the art of nature, the route will join two world heritage of humanity (the Douro Vinhateiro and Côa Valley Rock Art) and a protected area of great environmental value.
The route will pass through the counties of Miranda do Douro, Mogadouro, Freixo de Espada à Cinta, Torre de Moncorvo, Carrazeda de Ansiães (Bragança), Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo and Vila Nova de Foz Côa (Guarda.
The project of the Association of Municipalities of the Upper Douro aims to enhance and preserve the tourist assets of the territory. The circuit aims to enhance outdoor activities and the enjoyment of cultural and natural heritage. Cyclists will be able to gaze at the landscapes between Douro, Sabor and Tua rivers, a unique experience in this impressive territory. The best technical and logistic conditions will be made available for the practice of cycling tourism.
The circuit will be divided in six stages. Along the route, panels will be installed with information and signs and also 20 intermediate points to have contact with the population and boost the local economy.
