The smell of barbecue is always a reminder of summer. You get to sit in the sun, enjoy a nice meal, and have a wonderful day with those close to you. Few things evoke nicer feelings than enjoying pleasant company and a tasty meal.
A museum will open next spring, offering a guided exploration of the rich culture that envelops barbecue. It promises an interactive experience for people of all ages curious to learn more about the tricks, components, and styles of barbequing.
The world’s first Museum of BBQ is expected to open in the spring of 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, and welcome its first visitors. It is designed to provide attendees with a fresh perspective on barbecue and show them things they may never have heard of before.
Those who choose to visit the BBQ museum will have the opportunity to explore the main American BBQ regions such as Kansas City, the Carolinas, Texas, and Memphis. This adventure will invite visitors to discover how each place has developed its unique flavour.
The immersive experience will allow museum-goes to delve into different elements and regions of barbecue and tap into a whole new world of sensations. Inside, visitors will be able to learn about the different components of barbecue, including meat, spice, sauce, and smoke. After learning about craft elements, people would be able to see how a pitmaster transforms meat into a tasty treat.
Additionally, there will be playgrounds and child-friendly areas, allowing even the youngest visitors to immerse themselves in the barbecue world.
“This is a place where barbecue comes alive. We want you to play and learn and come away with an appreciation for the joy and community that is part of barbecue culture,” said Jonathan Bender, co-founder of the museum and a food writer and barbecue judge. Together with Alex Pope, a restaurant owner, Bender is embarking on a journey to tell the story of barbecue and give anyone a tap into this world and connect with this tradition.
Before the museum’s opening, those interested in attending can have a sneak peek at a miniature model of the Museum of BBQ close to the main entrance. It will give an idea of what future attendees can expect.
Kansas City is home to over 100 barbecue restaurants. It is also known for hosting multiple barbecue contests, such as the American Royal World Series of Barbecue. BBQ is an integral part of American culture. However, certain aspects of the craft came to Texas and the Carolinas from Eastern and Central Europe.
