Buying a house is rarely cheap, but not all areas are created equally. A new list shows the most expensive streets in the UK, where houses sell for well over £1 million on average.
British online real estate property portal Rightmove has published the results of its 2026 Most Expensive Streets report, based on recent market data and including streets where at least five homes have been available for sale across January 2026.
As is to be expected, almost all of the most expensive streets in the United Kingdom are located in London. The top 20 includes only one street outside the capital: East Road in Elmbridge, Surrey.
The top 5 most expensive streets in the United Kingdom:
1. Winnington Road, N2, Barnet, London, £12,538,095
2. Chester Square, SW1W, Westminster, London, £11,546,428
3. The Bishops Avenue, N2, Barnet, London, £8,930,650
4. Thurloe Place, SW7, Kensington and Chelsea, London, £8,904,545
5. East Road, KT13, Elmbridge, South East, £8,795,714
The prices mentioned in Rightmove’s survey are mere averages, meaning some of the houses for sale are quite a bit more expensive. At the moment of writing, a house on Winnington Road in London is listed for a whopping £17,950,000. For that price, one might expect no less than 10 bedrooms, a steam room, a swimming pool, and a decoration inspired by Versailles.
“Britain’s most expensive streets always capture the nation’s attention and this year we see the return of Winnington Road in North London, as Britain’s most expensive street based on asking prices. In fact, this year’s top 20 is taken up almost entirely by London addresses, showing the city still reigns as supreme when it comes to ultra-prime property”, said Colleen Babcock, Rightmove’s property expert.
The top 5 most expensive streets outside of London

2. Newlands Avenue, WD7, Hertsmere, East of England, £3,950,000
3. Congleton Road, SK9, Cheshire East, North West, £3,323,500
4. Larch Avenue, SL5, Windsor and Maidenhead, South East, £2,779,167
5. Salterns Way, BH14, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, South West, £2,460,000
While owning a house on one of the aforementioned streets might be an option for the happy few, for most Britains, it remains far outside their price range. According to the Office for National Statistics, the average house price in the United Kingdom amounts to £270,000.
