Check-in, luggage drop-off, passport control, security check… For many, travelling by plane has become normal, but that doesn’t mean it goes smoothly for everyone. Even within the same couple, the whole airport approach can widely differ.

While one partner might find it very important to show up hours in advance and with everything organised until the last second, the other one might take things in a more relaxed manner – arriving just on time, wasting no more hours than strictly necessary, sometimes even missing their flight or their luggage as a result. Such contradictions within couples aren’t rare, and although there are no official data available, they have undoubtedly caused millions of arguments over the years.

Yet, according to the internet, things could be different. An airport divorce, as the technique is called, could save couples quite a bit of tension if both partners don’t share the same airport tactics. While the term might sound negative and permanent, the reality is far more positive.

There are different approaches to the airport divorce technique. While some couples might just split up before passport control and meet up a few minutes later, others might only be reunited once they’re aboard the plane. Others, still, prefer to each go to the airport separately and meet up at baggage claim once the plane has touched down, sometimes even travelling in different classes. The number of possibilities is (almost) endless, the goal is the same: to each travel according to one’s own preferences, thus avoiding unnecessary friction before the vacation has started.

“They can move at their own pace, manage their own anxiety and preserve their emotional energy for the holiday itself rather than spending it arguing in a security queue. Sometimes a little autonomy prevents a lot of unnecessary resentment”, psychologist Dr. Madeleine Roantree told Metro UK.

For some couples, an airport divorce might just be a simple solution to a practical problem. This can be the case, for example, when partners don’t have the same passport or travel perks, meaning it takes one of them more time to go through security than the other. Another example: one partner has a lot of difficulty sleeping in economy class, while the other hasn’t. Here, travelling in different comfort classes can be an easy and budget-friendly solution.

For other couples, a stressful situation such as travelling combined with a different approach may spark unwanted friction. When this is the case, it is important to determine whether or not every stressful situation eventually leads to conflict. In this case, an airport divorce might not be the solution, as the friction felt when travelling is just a symptom of a wider problem. When the issue of conflict mainly applies to travelling, staying flexible and adapting to that trigger can however be healthy for one’s relationship, allowing both partners some freedom at a moment when they really need it.

The swing creates an experience that combines adventure and mountain views. Visitors sit on saddle-style seats attached to a metal structure inspired by an Alpine ibex, before being secured with safety equipment. A system of cables and pulleys then pulls the riders backwards until they are suspended at a 90-degree angle above the platform. When the mechanism is released, the swing moves forward over the valley, creating the sensation of flying above the Swiss Alps.

The attraction has already attracted visitors looking for a new type of mountain experience. Alexandra Henchoz, 37, tested the swing with her husband and 10-year-old daughter and admitted she was nervous before starting the ride. “I had a bit of a pit in my stomach” before being strapped in, she said. However, after the swing started moving, she described the experience as “incredible” and added: “You feel like a bird flying.” Other visitors also highlighted the combination of fear and excitement, with 70-year-old Marc Truffer saying the experience was frightening but that the view afterwards was magnificent.

While the swing offers an adrenaline-filled activity for travellers, its purpose goes beyond entertainment. The attraction is part of a wider strategy by Alpine resorts to reduce their dependence on winter tourism. Martin Deburaux, head of the Villars-Gryon-Diablerets ski area, explained that the resort is working to create more activities that are not linked to snow conditions. “We are really trying to diversify our offering,” he said.

The need for diversification is becoming increasingly important for mountain destinations. Ski resorts across Europe are facing challenges linked to rising temperatures and changing snowfall patterns. Although Villars has experienced strong winter seasons in recent years, the resort is preparing for a future where traditional skiing may become less predictable. The new swing provides an attraction that can continue operating during warmer months and allows the resort to make better use of its mountain infrastructure.

Currently, Villars welcomes more than 700,000 visitors during the winter season, while summer attracts around 100,000 people. The resort aims to significantly increase its summer visitor numbers in the coming years by offering a wider range of activities. Hiking, mountain biking and other outdoor experiences are already attracting visitors, and the Balanc’Air swing adds another reason for travellers to visit outside the ski season.

The development reflects a broader change in Alpine tourism, where destinations are moving from a seasonal model focused mainly on skiing towards year-round experiences. Mountain resorts are increasingly investing in activities that appeal to visitors who want adventure, nature and unique landscapes without necessarily needing snow. The swing also shows how existing ski infrastructure can be adapted to support tourism throughout the entire year.

At the same time, Villars is trying to balance tourism growth with the protection of its natural surroundings. The swing was intentionally placed in an area that was already popular with visitors, while other parts of the resort remain focused on preserving a quieter mountain environment. For Alpine destinations facing changing climate conditions, finding new ways to welcome visitors while respecting the landscape is becoming an increasingly important challenge.

The necessity for such a facility has increased in tandem with the frequency and intensity of heatwaves in the capital. According to The Brussels Times, Brussels is currently the only European city with a population of over one million that does not have a permanent outdoor public swimming pool.

Plans for the swimming complex were approved by the Brussels regional government in 2022 following a proposal by Pascal Smet (then Brussels Secretary of State for Urbanism) as part of the wider transformation of the historic Abattoir site in Cureghem.

Over the years, the former slaughterhouse has evolved into a bustling hub for markets, food production, and cultural events. The underground Cureghem Cellars also hosted many memorable events before closing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Smet said the new swimming complex would “make a huge difference to the quality of life for thousands of Brusseleers”. However, despite widespread support for the pool, its construction was put on hold for years while the authorities finalised the legal, financial and operational details. The project involves the Brussels-Capital Region, the Flemish Community Commission (VGC), the municipality of Anderlecht and the Brussels Urban Development Corporation.

Things are finally moving again. Brussels Secretary of State for Urban Renewal Ans Persoons (Vooruit) announced that the tender is set to be launched following approval from the regional government.

“Cooling down should not be a privilege for those who have the space or the means,” said Persoons. “The city is only getting hotter, so this project is becoming increasingly important,” she told Bruzz.

Construction, however, is not expected to begin before 2029 at the earliest.

The project is being developed under a DBFMO (Design, Build, Finance, Maintain and Operate) contract, a public-private partnership, under which the successful bidder will be responsible for every aspect of the project, from design and financing to operation and maintenance. The contract is expected to be awarded in 2028.

Around €4 million has already been secured from the VGC and the Brussels-Capital Region, and preparatory work, including reinforcing the Manufakture roof, has been completed.

The pools will be located on top of Manufakture, a new food production hub that is currently under construction on the Abattoir site. The refrigerated rooms used by the businesses below, which naturally generate heat and energy as they keep food cold, will not go to waste and will be used to help warm the pool water.

Plans include a 25-metre indoor pool for schools and sports clubs, a smaller teaching pool, and an additional 25-metre outdoor pool, which will be open throughout the summer. The complex will also feature recreational and relaxation areas with views across the Brussels skyline.

Once operational, the facility is expected to be open for at least 3,500 hours over 50 weeks of the year, welcoming schools, sports clubs, and members of the public. Admission prices will be in line with other public pools in Brussels, with reduced rates for schools and certain groups.

With almost 400,000 visitors expected annually, it could become one of the capital’s busiest public facilities.

Beyond Anderlecht

While Brussels, historically, had many outdoor swimming spots, these gradually disappeared during the second half of the 20^th century, leaving residents largely reliant on private facilities and sports clubs. A situation unlikely to change before 2030.

This is not the first proposal, and previous proposals have proved less successful. Plans for a natural swimming pond in Neerpede have stalled due to objections from local residents regarding potential noise and damage to wildlife. Meanwhile, an ambitious 350-metre pool project at Quai des Péniches was abandoned due to a lack of funding. The city and Port of Brussels are now considering a more modest alternative: a single supervised swimming lane in the canal.

Until then, the nearest options remain outside the capital, including Renipont beach in Lasne, IJsevijver in Overijse, Hofstade beach, and the provincial domain in Kessel-Lo.

The tunnels, which lie beneath the ruins of the White House Glass Cone, date back to the 18^th century and once played an essential role in the region’s world-famous glassmaking industry. They were used to store raw materials, regulate heat and support the production process inside the cone, helping establish Stourbridge as one of Britain’s leading centres of glass manufacturing. 

As part of a major redevelopment project, the museum intends to transform the underground network into a permanent immersive attraction combining virtual reality, projection mapping and animated displays. Visitors will be able to follow more than 400 years of Stourbridge’s glassmaking history, with projections illustrating the entire production process in the very spaces where it once took place.

Although the museum already offers occasional guided tunnel tours, the new project will make the underground passages a permanent part of the visitor experience for the first time. Before opening, the site will undergo a series of health and safety improvements, including upgraded lighting, signage and accessibility measures designed to create what the museum describes as a “safe and free-flowing visitor experience”.

Museum director Alexander Goodger said the development forms part of a wider strategy to strengthen both the museum and the surrounding area.

“This is just one part of our new phase of capital development designed to boost the site for locals, expand the offer, give it a wider appeal and bring in tourists to the area who then go on to stay in hotels and eat in restaurants, regenerating the area,” Goodger said.

He added: “We want to bring in investment for the Black Country’s heritage. We have an incredible and unique history.”

The project also reflects broader ambitions to reinforce the Stourbridge Glass Quarter’s reputation as a centre for industrial heritage and cultural tourism. The museum houses a collection of around 4,000 objects documenting the area’s glassmaking legacy, alongside demonstrations and interactive exhibits celebrating a craft that shaped the region for centuries. 

The tunnels sit beneath the site once occupied by the renowned Stuart Crystal factory, one of England’s best-known manufacturers of cut glass until it closed in 2001. The loss marked part of the wider decline of the traditional Glass Quarter, where four major manufacturers disappeared by the late 1990s and early 2000s. 

The new attraction aims not only to preserve an important chapter of Britain’s industrial past but also to create a distinctive tourism experience capable of attracting visitors to Stourbridge and the wider Black Country.

He stated, “When evaluating host cities for an event such as NAIC, we look at several factors, including accessibility, transport, and family-friendly attractions.” He added that Chicago “checks all those boxes” and offers plenty for visitors to explore beyond the competition venues. The city’s transport links and global connectivity were also highlighted as major advantages.

Chicago’s recent success with large-scale Pokémon events also played a role in the decision. Earlier this year, Pokémon GO Fest Chicago took place in Grant Park and attracted more than 100,000 attendees, setting a new North American attendance record for the franchise. The city also offered city-wide activations and collaborations with attractions such as the Field Museum and the Lincoln Park Zoo.

The 2027 championship will be held at McCormick Place, a venue known for hosting major international conventions, exhibitions and trade shows. Its large capacity and flexible event spaces make it suitable for an expanding global competition like NAIC. As attendance continues to grow, with recent editions attracting more than 18,000 visitors, organisers have increasingly looked for venues capable of handling both competitors and spectators. McCormick Place is expected to support not only tournament matches but also side events and fan experiences spread across multiple halls.

Visitors to the 2027 event can expect a mix of competitive gameplay and fan-focused activities. The Pokémon Center pop-up store is expected to return, offering exclusive merchandise for attendees. Side events, training spaces known as Play Labs, and photo opportunities with characters such as Pikachu will also be part of the experience. Organisers have emphasised that the event is designed to bring fans together, whether they are competing or attending as spectators, creating a shared experience around the franchise.

The NAIC also plays an important role in the wider competitive Pokémon ecosystem, leading into the annual World Championships. The 2026 edition of the World Championships will take place in San Francisco and will be held alongside PokémonXP, a new fan-focused convention featuring exhibitions, workshops and brand partnerships. Gondola rides have long been a practical attraction in mountainous regions but are becoming increasingly sought-after for their high level of entertainment, offering an unusual way to look at the world from above. At the end of 2025, even Paris unveiled a new urban cable car system, which also turned out to be the longest of its kind in Europe.

On 22 May 2026, at the other end of the world, a whole different kind of cable car was inaugurated at the mountaintop adventure park Anakeesta in Tennessee. The Crystal Express, as the attraction is named, is the world’s first all-glass gondola ride, offering visitors previously unseen sights over the surrounding Great Smoky Mountains.

During a four-minute ride, visitors who embark on the ride at Anakeesta’s Parkway station are transported over 600 feet (182 meters) up the mountainside to the Anakeesta summit. All 56 panoramic cabins feature glass floors and walls, guaranteeing an almost immersive ride and 360-degree views.

“The Crystal Express represents a major step forward at Anakeesta. From the moment visitors leave the Parkway, we want them to feel the magic of this mountain. This new lift enhances that experience with incredible views, greater comfort, and the efficiency needed to welcome even more families to the Smokies,” Bob Bentz, one of the founding partners of Anakeesta, said in a statement.

The Parkway station at the base of the gondola ride was also renovated as part of the building works, resulting in better accessibility. According to the adventure park, strollers now roll directly into the cabins without folding, while the system operates at triple the capacity of our previous gondola, thus limiting waiting times.

The Crystal Express is part of a $100 million expansion of Anakeesta, a project called Making More Magic. Aside from the gondola ride, this includes a makeover of the park’s Firefly Village, described as “a whimsical storybook escape”, an elevated treetop walk reaching new heights, and a nighttime firefly experience during the first phase of the project.

“Most visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains never get to see the synchronous fireflies that appear for two or three weeks each summer. During this short window, crowds often descend on the Smokies, but depending on when they arrive during the event, they might only see a few flashing fireflies. Anakeesta is changing that. Starting this May, the park’s new Firefly Experience brings the wonder of one of the Smokies’ most extraordinary natural events to life year-round, with no seasonal window required,” the park explains.

Visitors purchasing a $39.99 general admission ticket for the mountaintop adventure park can enjoy unlimited access to the Crystal Express, as well as a visit to the AnaVista observation tower, the aviary-inspired adventure zone BirdVenture, and the Treetop Skywalk. Some of Anakeesta’s other attractions require an additional fee.

Announced on 4 June, the new addition to the LEGO Architecture range recreates the iconic basilica with 12,060 pieces and is designed to mirror the church’s real-world construction sequence, which has been underway for 144 years.

The launch comes during a landmark year for both Gaudí and the Sagrada Família. 10 June marks 100 years since the Catalan architect died in 1926, while the basilica has recently reached its final structural height of 172.5 metres, becoming the world’s tallest church and bringing the long-running project closer to completion.

The model guides builders through the same stages that shaped the actual basilica. Construction begins with the Apse and Crypt before progressing through the Nativity and Passion façades, the grand naves, Western Sacristy and six iconic towers, and concludes with the Eastern Sacristy and the Glory Façade.

“Our goal was to honour Gaudí’s vision with the utmost respect, capturing the rhythm of the basilica’s construction, its extraordinary complexity and ambition, and translating that into an immersive building experience,” said LEGO Architecture designer Rok Žgalin Kobe. “This is not only the largest LEGO set ever, but a model of one of the most ambitious architectural works in the world.”

The finished model stands 62 centimetres tall and includes details that recreate one of the basilica’s most celebrated features. Translucent elements were incorporated to mimic the effect of sunlight streaming through its stained-glass windows. 

The design recreates Gaudí’s scale and ambition, offering an immersive building experience inspired by one of the most celebrated works of architecture ever undertaken.

“We felt an immense responsibility to do justice to the Sagrada Família through this design,” Kobe underlined. “Balancing scale and precision, while remaining faithful to a living monument that has been evolving for more than a century, was a unique design challenge – and one we’re incredibly proud of.”

The new set arrives as Barcelona celebrates Gaudí Year, a programme of events commemorating the architect’s legacy a century after his death. The Sagrada Família has also opened its doors for free visits as part of the anniversary celebrations, drawing renewed attention to one of Europe’s most visited landmarks.

The newest LEGO release has now become the biggest set ever, surpassing all previous models by piece count. The set joins a growing portfolio of large-scale architectural replicas that includes landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame de Paris.

The LEGO Architecture Sagrada Família is available for pre-order now and will go on general sale on 1 November 2026. Priced at €749.99 (£649.99/$799.99), the model is aimed at adult builders and collectors.

Located in the heart of Northumberland National Park, Kielder Observatory has been offering stargazing experiences for over fifteen years. After the observatory first partnered with the Twice Brewed Inn near Hadrian’s Wall in 2025, they have now launched an entirely new stargazing experience at the pub together with Northumberland-born actor and presenter Robson Green, who gave his name to the ‘Robson’s Reflector’, the Inn’s brand-new reflective telescope.

The destination received the Tourism Leaders award in recognition of its work to promote astrotourism, maintain low levels of light pollution, and high atmospheric quality, and its dedication to preserving the night sky was all applauded.

Heavily involved in that effort is astrophotographer Miguel Claro, who uses photography to capture astronomical phenomena, raising awareness, and building appreciation of the night sky. He told Euronews, the award drives visitor numbers, with arrivals “very much guided by the awards we receive. The Starlight seal, for example, tests quality. It is not merely an opinion; it is a certification that scientifically proves that quality.”

Visitors to the 10,000-km² area around the Alqueva Great Lake, which embraces 11 Portuguese municipalities and parts of Spain, are able to see night sky phenomena with the naked eye or telescopes that normally would only be invisible with photography or far more specialist equipment.

As well as the recent Tourism Experience award and being the first destination to receive the Starlight Seal (certifying the location’s exceptional night sky observation conditions and sustainability credentials), Alqueva also won Europe’s Leading Attraction at the 2025 World Travel Awards.

But, despite the enthusiasm and the community of night sky aficionados it has built, Alqueva needs more government investment, Claro says. The reserve has lost out on projects it has conceived and proposed, seeing them implemented at other, less suited venues, because it has lacked backing from central Portuguese authorities. “Portugal could be a pioneer in many projects if we had more support. We feel that investment has been growing, but we need more help,” Claro said.

A destination growing in popularity, Portugal’s Alentejo region also boasts the best beach in Europe for 2026, as chosen by travel platform European Best Destinations. As previously reported by Travel Tomorrow, the coastline at Praia de Monte Clérigo took first place in the ranking thanks to its “natural beauty, accessibility, atmosphere, environmental preservation and overall visitor experience.”

Those criteria behind the success of the two Portuguese attractions are further proof of travel consumers’ desire for authenticity, nature, and the ability to switch off from everyday pressures.

With more than 300 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix continues to look for new ways to grow.
