United Airlines is seeking to expand operations at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) through potential deals with smaller carriers, as well as grow its international and premium offer, according to a CNBC interview with United CEO Scott Kirby.

United may be number one for profits right now, but like other carriers in the current market, it faces cost challenges and barriers to growth, including limited airport slot capacity and manufacturing delays on new aircraft. It is waiting for 167 Boeing Max 10s that were due to enter service six years ago and still will not be ready until 2027. On top of that, hundreds of seats made bespoke for the Max 10s are now sitting empty.

“We got a bunch of lie-flat seats that we don’t know what to do with,” Kirby told CNBC. “They don’t fit on other airplanes.”

Nonetheless, moving ahead with the so-called “premiumization” of its fleet, United has kitted out some of its Airbus A321neos with 20 Polaris suites and premium economy seats to serve its “Coastliner” transcontinental routes.

United is already ranked in first place for international capacity and has specialised in developing US routes to what Simple Flying calls “secondary destinations” such as Bilbao and Mallorca in Spain, Palermo in Italy, and Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia (via Tokyo).

That strategy is set to continue with Kirby talking up the carrier’s South American and southeastern US networks, potentially turning Miami International into a new regional hub. American Airlines currently dominates slots there.

On America’s other coast, Delta has opened up a new front in the battle for transpacific flyers, in which Delta aims to overtake United, using Los Angeles (LAX) as a hub to fly direct to Hong Kong. United has seized the gauntlet there, debuting direct flights to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City via Hong Kong, as well as adding a nonstop Sapporo service to its Japan schedules.

Slot capacity is an issue elsewhere too. Kirby indicated United could tackle the problem at New York JFK by acquiring slots from smaller carriers with low margins or unprofitable operations. United has already proposed an effective merger with Delta and seen it snubbed, but a partnership with JetBlue is slated for 2027. “We got a bunch of irons in the fire to try to find ways to do it,” Kirby told CNBC.

Another of those irons is the airline’s approach to AI, which Kirby says he aims to deploy to minimise weather disruption, maximise efficiency, ease passengers’ travel experience, and boost reliability. The latter is a focus since United currently ranks lower than Delta and Alaska Airlines for on-time arrivals, according to US Department of Transportation data.

Starting from 17 March 2027, South Korea’s Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul are set to combine into a single low-cost carrier. Parent group Hanjin is thus continuing the merger trend it started by planning for Korean Air and Asiana to become one airline in 2026.

On 21 August 2026, the boards of Jin Air, Air Busan, and Air Seoul signed off on a merger agreement set to go through in 2027. The three South Korean budget airlines are part of the same Hanjin parent group and will be known as Jin Air once the merger has gone through.

As part of the agreement, Jin Air is scheduled to assume Air Busan’s and Air Seoul’s assets, liabilities, rights, obligations, employees, and legal status. The merger ratio has been set at 1 share of Jin Air for every 0.75 shares of Air Seoul and 0.29 shares of Air Busan.

The new Jin Air is planned to take off on 17 March 2027. However, before the merger can go through, it has to be approved by shareholder votes in December, and it has to obtain regulatory approval.

Moreover, Hanjin will have to obtain an Air Operator Certificate for the new unified airline. This safety approval is necessary to be able to merge the three existing airlines into one and to unify the fleet. Jin Air is reportedly planning to integrate Air Busan’s and Air Seoul’s operations into its existing certificate in different stages, with manuals and personnel training already starting to be updated and shared across the three airlines. A safety inspection by South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport will be required for the merger to proceed.

“This merger is an important turning point that consolidates each airline’s expertise to build a new growth foundation for Korea’s low-cost carrier industry. We will prioritise safety to complete a successful integration and grow into a leading low-cost carrier in Asia,” Jin Air said in a statement following the news.

Once the merger has gone through, 58 planes should be flying under the same Jin Air name. Flyers are expected to be able to benefit from more flights and easier connections, while enjoying one unified loyalty programme. At the time of writing, nothing has been shared concerning ticket prices and the impact of the planned merger on travellers who have already booked their tickets for a flight after 17 March 2027.

The budget airline merger is not the only one in the books for the Hanjin group. After Korean Air completed its acquisition of a majority stake in Asiana Airlines at the end of 2024, the merger is set to close on 17 December 2026. Originally, Jin Air was a part of Korean Air, while Air Busan and Air Seoul were Asiana subsidiaries. With Korean Air and Asiana becoming one single company, the merger of their low-cost subsidiaries was a logical next step in the process.

Trials of electric tow tractors for cargo are taking place at Brussels Airport, with the aim of exploring ways to make operations more efficient and sustainable, while maintaining safety as “the absolute priority,” the airport said in a press release.

The tow tractor is an autonomous vehicle that, during the trial period, will transport cargo trailers along four predefined routes in the cargo zone between warehouses and aprons. It uses satellite navigation systems and laser sensors to perceive its surroundings and identify any obstacles.

Taking place under strictly controlled conditions and only during off-peak hours, the project is focusing on how the technology integrates with airport cargo operations. It will seek to tailor future developments to the airport’s environment and conditions, as well as assessing what would be required to scale up the technology. Efficiency gains, safety improvements and greener operations, all while “supporting teams in their daily work”, are the ultimate goals, the hub’s statement said.

Part of the European Stargate programme

The autonomous tow tractor is not the first deployment of self-driving vehicles at the Belgian airport under the European Stargate programme, which brings together a consortium of 22 partners under the aviation hub’s leadership to work on a range of decarbonisation projects, including on-site electric vehicles, green energy generation and sharing with local neighbourhoods, and improving multimodal transport access to the airport.

There was a successful airside trial of a 100% self-driving electric shuttle in 2025, as well as a test project involving an autonomous shuttle that travels from the terminal to a staff car park.

Safety remains the priority

Commenting on the latest pilot, Arnaud Faust, CEO of Brussels Airport, said: “We continue to explore innovative and sustainable solutions that can tangibly strengthen cargo operations.”

Faust added: “The aviation and logistics sectors are evolving rapidly. Thanks to this project, we can gain valuable insights into the potential of autonomous technologies, and into what they can deliver in terms of efficiency and sustainability, while people remain key to operations and the highest safety standards are maintained.”

The pilot is a collaboration between the airport, WFS Cargo and Charlatte Autonom with Navya Mobility, whose CEO, Jean-Claude Bailly, echoed Faust’s words on safety. He highlighted the participants’ expertise in “autonomous mobility solutions within complex and demanding airport environments” and emphasised that “safety and reliability are paramount in the design of our products, whose technology enables fully autonomous operation, without an operator on board, when regulatory conditions allow.”

In another environmental initiative now in its fourth year, the airport is currently calling for projects to support local initiatives that benefit both people and nature. The Brussels Airport Fund is inviting applicants to submit their ideas by 16 September 2026 for a chance to receive financial support of up to €10,000 for their green projects.

China is looking to reduce its reliance on the European supply chain for its C919, with local suppliers developing alternatives for five components: sealants, rubber, paints, bolts, and cleaning agents.

Zhang Xiaoyan, chief engineer at the Aero Engine Corporation of China (AECC) and the Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials, explained that this strategy aims to reduce China’s exposure to foreign supplies at a time when geopolitical tensions and other disruptions have highlighted the vulnerability of companies to shortages and the unreliability of freight transport routes.

Speaking at an aviation forum in Guangzhou, Zhang acknowledged that replacing foreign components and materials would take years. Some Chinese products are already being tested on the C919, while others are still being evaluated by the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC).

The first C919 entered domestic commercial service in May 2023. China aims to use this new aircraft to challenge the Boeing-Airbus duopoly in the commercial aircraft market. By July, COMAC had delivered 42 C919s to Chinese customers.

Another milestone was reached in mid-August when Air China began operating the aircraft between Beijing and Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia, marking the C919’s first scheduled international commercial route. Previously, the aircraft had only operated outside mainland China on services to Hong Kong.

Among the materials of Chinese origin that have already been introduced is HM1176, a polythioether sealant that provides structural sealing and corrosion protection. It has been used in the C919 programme and China’s CJ-1000 engine series since 2025.

The CJ-1000 is still being developed by the AECC and will offer a domestic alternative to the LEAP-1C, which is currently the only engine available for production C919s.

LEAP-1C engines are manufactured by CFM International, a joint venture between US-based GE Aerospace and French company Safran.

At the forum, Zhang also acknowledged that, despite the localisation drive, Western companies continue to supply many of the C919’s advanced components and materials.

“Aeronautical functional materials, including composite materials, can be found throughout the C919. Despite its Chinese identity, most of these advanced materials originate from a handful of well-established US and European producers known for their long-held dominance,” she said.

To accelerate the search for alternatives, China could draw on the technology and manufacturing experience developed for military aviation. According to Zhang, anticorrosive coatings, adhesives, and chemical buffering agents developed for military purposes could be adapted for use in civilian aircraft programmes.

One question this self-sufficiency plan has raised is whether replacing Western components could affect the C919’s bid for certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), which is considered crucial to the aircraft’s broader international ambitions.

Zhang argued that introducing Chinese alternatives would “not create any adverse impact”, as they would merely provide “an additional safeguard with the option of domestic products”, rather than immediately replacing foreign suppliers.

She mentioned that Chinese-made materials have already gained international recognition, citing Airbus’ approval of Chinese-made protective seals for use on A330 engines operated in China as an example.

Meanwhile, in July, the South China Morning Post reported that European test pilots had carried out an in-flight assessment of the C919 in Shanghai as part of the aircraft’s lengthy European certification process. Flight data and documentation still need to undergo further regulatory examination before certification can be granted.

Zhang sees this as a significant step forward that could have implications far beyond the aircraft itself, and help propel the development of China’s domestic aviation materials industry and supply chain.

A laptop battery caught fire on an American Airlines plane on 21 August 2026, injuring around five people and causing one person to be hospitalised for burns.

The incident, on board flight number 2398 from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, saw flight attendants called upon to contain the fire in a thermal bag.

The fire first came to air traffic control’s attention when the pilot reported smoke had been detected in the cabin. The captain told ground controllers: “I think we have about four to five passengers that were burned by the laptop.” The fire was said to be “contained about mid-aircraft” and the pilot asked air traffic controllers for the best way to proceed: “Once we taxi clear, I guess the best plan to follow is to the gate or any way you guys can board?”

After the aircraft landed, emergency services attended the plane at the gate and were able to ensure the fire had been dealt with and passengers safely disembarked.

A spokesperson for Dallas-Fort Worth confirmed to media: “American Airlines Flight 2398 landed safely at DFW after reports of smoke from a customer’s device during landing. The airline also issued thanks to its crew for “their professionalism and swift response to quickly contain the device.”

The hazard presented by lithium batteries is now classed as the world’s number one risk to aviation by the UK regulator, the Civil Aviation Authority. They are used ubiquitously in personal consumer electronics, from laptops, to mobile phones, to the chargers and portable battery blocks used to repower them. The technology is prone to “thermal runway” – a chain reaction in which the batteries can heat up faster than they can call down, releasing toxic fumes and igniting.

“Thermal runaway can occur without warning as a result of various factors, including if the battery is damaged, overheated, exposed to water, overcharged, or improperly packed. Thermal runaway can also occur on its own due to manufacturing defects,” the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned. The FAA has recorded 58 lithium battery incidents on passenger aircraft so far in 2026.

A new low-cost airline is set to launch flights from Santiago de Compostela to eight destinations across Spain and Europe, just in time for an expected surge in visitors during the 2027 Holy Year.

Fly2Galicia will begin services from Santiago–Rosalía de Castro Airport on 1 December 2026, connecting the Galician capital with Alicante, Granada and Zaragoza in Spain, as well as Brussels, Prague, Munich, Venice and Milan.

The new carrier is positioning itself as a low-cost option for travellers to Galicia, with introductory fares starting at around €40 on some international routes. Tickets went on sale in August, with fares varying depending on the destination and travel date.

Even the lowest fares are expected to include two pieces of hand luggage, comprising an eight-kilogram cabin bag and one personal item.

Despite being marketed under the Fly2Galicia brand, the initial flights will not be operated directly by the new airline. Instead, services will be carried out by another European operator, whose identity has yet to be announced.

The initial schedule is planned to run until 24 October 2027, with reports suggesting an Airbus A320 will be deployed. The airline is also reportedly considering adding a second aircraft for the summer 2027 season.

Santiago prepares for 2027 Holy Year

The timing of the launch coincides with preparations for the 2027 Jacobean Holy Year, or Año Santo Xacobeo, when the Feast of Saint James on 25 July falls on a Sunday.

Holy Years traditionally bring significantly larger numbers of pilgrims to Santiago de Compostela and the Camino de Santiago, as Catholics are able to obtain a plenary indulgence after completing certain religious rites in the city.

The Camino has already been experiencing record demand in recent years, with travellers increasingly undertaking the pilgrimage for cultural, sporting and personal reasons as well as religious ones.

Fly2Galicia’s international network could therefore provide additional connectivity for pilgrims travelling to and from Galicia, particularly from Belgium, Germany, Italy and the Czech Republic.

The airline currently has no announced routes to the United Kingdom.

More airlines turn their attention to Santiago

Fly2Galicia will not be the only carrier expanding its presence at Santiago–Rosalía de Castro Airport ahead of 2027.

Wizz Air has also announced new connections to Santiago from Rome and Warsaw starting in December 2026. The airline is expected to establish a permanent base at the Galician airport in February 2027, accompanied by new domestic services to Malaga, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Zaragoza.

The additional capacity could strengthen Santiago’s role as a gateway not only to the Camino but to Galicia as a whole.

Santiago de Compostela’s UNESCO-listed Old Town is one of Spain’s most important historic centres, dominated by the cathedral that marks the traditional finishing point of the Camino. Beyond the city, visitors can explore destinations including A Coruña and Vigo, as well as the beaches, islands and vineyards of the Rías Baixas.

Air France has permanently closed one of the more unusual amenities at its Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport lounge, following reports that passengers had been using its private sauna for inappropriate activities, including alleged sexual encounters.

The French flag carrier’s Business lounge in Terminal 2E, Hall L, originally featured two private saunas as part of a 550-square-metre wellness area when the redesigned facility opened in 2018. The saunas have now disappeared from the airline’s current list of amenities and the former entrance has reportedly been converted into a staff-only area.

The closure was revealed by aviation website Live and Let’s Fly, whose founder Matthew Klint discovered during a recent visit that the sauna signs had disappeared and the door was locked with a “Staff Only” sign.

After a member of staff confirmed the facility was “finished”, Klint asked a lounge manager whether the closure was temporary. According to his account, the manager confirmed it was permanent and explained that passengers had been “doing things in there that they should not have”.

Reports point to sexual activity

The manager did not explicitly describe what passengers had been doing, but Live and Let’s Fly reported that his reaction when asked to elaborate left little doubt that he was referring to sexual activity.

The story has since been picked up by other media, including Portuguese broadcaster SIC, which reported that inappropriate behaviour by passengers was one of the main reasons behind the permanent closure.

There is, however, an important distinction between the reported conversation with the lounge manager and Air France’s official position. The airline has not publicly confirmed that passengers were having sex in the sauna, nor has it issued a statement saying sexual activity was the reason for closing it.

The allegation therefore remains based on Live and Let’s Fly’s account of its conversation with an Air France lounge manager rather than an official statement from the carrier.

Too much privacy?

The sauna was one of the most distinctive features of Air France’s premium ground experience at Charles de Gaulle. Its facilities included a private changing room, a large walk-in shower and a wood-panelled sauna capable of accommodating several people.

Despite its size, the entire suite could be used privately, something that made it particularly attractive for passengers wanting to relax before a flight or during a connection.

That privacy, however, may ultimately have contributed to its disappearance.

Air France’s current information for the Hall L Business lounge continues to promote a range of wellness facilities, including showers, relaxation areas and complimentary Clarins treatments, but the sauna is no longer listed.

The disappearance leaves considerably fewer opportunities for frequent flyers looking to sweat between flights. Finnair continues to advertise a traditional Finnish sauna in its Platinum Wing at Helsinki Airport, available to eligible passengers travelling through the non-Schengen area.

Multiple pilots flying into Brussels Airport were targeted by lasers on the evening of 14 August, amid speculation that the activity could have stemmed from local discontent over flight paths.

Aiming lasers at aircraft is against the law in Belgium and across Europe. Considered a serious criminal offence that endangers air traffic, it is punishable by imprisonment and hefty fines. Just as bright headlights can dazzle a car driver at night, lasers can distract and disorient aircraft pilots.

The European air traffic control body Skeyes told Het Laatste Nieuws that the pilots “all had a laser pointed at their faces between 20:45 and 02:45.” The lasers reportedly came from the district of Dilbeek, in Flemish Brabant, just west of the Belgian capital Brussels.

The Dilbeek area is at the centre of an ongoing row between local residents and the Belgian state over noise pollution due to the increased use of the so-called RNP 07L flight path, an advanced satellite-based approach on which 96% of flights (and 100% at night) have been shown by research to violate Brussels’ noise standards. It is unknown whether the noise controversy was linked in any way to the laser incidents.

Shining a laser at an aircraft can blind a flight crew and is a crime. It happened Sat morning as an MNPD helicopter was assisting on a fleeing vehicle call. The beam came from Castlewood Condos on Harold Dr. Ground units found the suspect & recovered the laser… pic.twitter.com/qI6dP5mzCh
— Metro Nashville PD (@MNPDNashville) August 17, 2026

Police immediately conducted a search for the offenders, DPG Media said, but police commissioner Koen Luppens did not hold out much hope of identifying or arresting those at fault. “Without the exact location, it’s a hopeless task. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack,” he said.

Laser incidents rose 80% in 2025

Laser attacks on aircraft are far from a new phenomenon. The number of incidents had been falling in the decade to 2025, when there was a sharp rise, with 169 reports of lasers used against planes in Belgian airspace, representing a steep increase of 80% over the previous year and making lasers the third most common aviation safety event after bird strikes and unauthorised use of airspace.

Despite the surprisingly high number of laser incidents in 2025, authorities say that five incidents in one night are unusual. Officers continue to investigate the evening’s incidents, while monitoring is expected to continue in the coming weeks and months.

Solar panels caused similar dazzling problem

Unintentional dazzling can be a problem for plane crew too, as shown in 2025, when pilots approaching Amsterdam Schiphol found they were being blinded by reflections from a solar panel installation in the Green Energy Corridor. A plan was put in place to remove the offending panels and cover them with a non-reflective film, to allow both the Dutch airport and the Belgian-owned solar facility to operate safely.

American Airlines is bringing seatback entertainment screens back to its US flights, reversing a strategy that saw the carrier remove built-in displays from much of its domestic fleet over the past decade.

The airline announced a major overhaul of its narrowbody fleet on Tuesday, with plans to install next-generation screens at every seat while substantially increasing the proportion of premium seating available on its aircraft.

New Airbus and Boeing aircraft delivered from 2028 will come equipped with seatback displays, while existing aircraft will be retrofitted. American expects the installation programme to be completed across its narrowbody fleet by the early 2030s.

“We’re making one of the most significant investments in the onboard experience in our history,” said Heather Garboden, American Airlines’ Chief Customer Officer. “From next-generation seatback entertainment at every seat to substantially more premium seating options, these enhancements will give our customers more ways to relax, stay connected and enjoy their journey.”

Reversing course on seatback entertainment

The decision represents a significant change in strategy for American. During the previous decade, the carrier phased out seatback screens from many of its Boeing 737 and Airbus A320-family aircraft, instead encouraging passengers to stream entertainment to their own phones, tablets and laptops.

At the time, airlines could save weight, maintenance costs and installation expenses by relying on passengers’ increasingly ubiquitous personal devices. But the approach has not proved universally popular, with travellers complaining about battery consumption, inconvenient viewing angles and dependence on connectivity.

American’s strategy also increasingly contrasted with rivals such as Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, which have continued investing in seatback entertainment as part of efforts to offer a more premium passenger experience. JetBlue has also retained seatback televisions across its fleet.

Technology has evolved in the meantime, making modern entertainment systems lighter and more capable. American’s new platform will offer 4K displays, Bluetooth connectivity for wireless headphones, USB-C fast charging and personalised recommendations for films and television programmes.

The screens will also feature interactive flight maps with destination information and real-time flight insights. American says the displays will be among the largest offered on narrowbody aircraft in North America.

The rollout will complement more than 140 long-haul aircraft in American’s fleet that already feature seatback screens.

Premium seats to rise to around 40%

Entertainment is only one part of the airline’s cabin overhaul. American is also significantly increasing the number of First Class and Main Cabin Extra seats available across its narrowbody fleet.

Premium seating currently accounts for approximately 25% of seats on American’s narrowbody departures. The carrier intends to increase that proportion to around 40% in the coming years, reflecting the wider airline industry’s growing focus on higher-margin premium travel.

American is already retrofitting its Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft with an additional row of First Class seats. Its future Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft are expected to feature 24 First Class seats, while the Airbus A321neo fleet will also be reconfigured with additional First Class capacity.

Main Cabin Extra, American’s extra-legroom economy product, will also be expanded across most of the narrowbody fleet. Refreshed cabins will include redesigned seats, additional storage and upgraded lighting.

The investments come as American seeks to strengthen its onboard proposition and compete more directly for passengers willing to pay for upgraded experiences.

Connectivity is another part of that strategy. Starting in 2027, the airline plans to install high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi on its narrowbody aircraft. Combined with the new entertainment screens, American is betting that improved connectivity and a more consistent cabin experience can become important differentiators for passengers.

The overhaul forms part of a wider investment programme covering both the airport and onboard experience. The airline is expanding and upgrading its Flagship and Admirals Club lounges, introducing new premium food and beverage offerings and investing in digital services covering everything from booking to baggage tracking.

For passengers, however, one of the most visible changes will be a familiar one: after years of asking travellers to bring their own screens, American Airlines has decided there is still a place for the television in the seat in front.

Severe weather across the US is causing a series of cancellations and delays. Combined with reduced available seat capacity, many travellers are forced to wait days before they’re able to reach their destination.

Since the outbreak of the US-Israel war on Iran in February, the airline industry has been forced to adapt itself to a new global situation. While some airspaces are closed or restricted, leading to rerouted flights, jet fuel prices have been on the rise. All factors combined have led airlines to reduce their flight schedules, leading to reduced available seat capacity.

While the reduced seat offer was initially adapted to meet the demand more aptly, thus maximising the efficiency and potential benefit, the limited number of available seats has recently been adding to the long waiting times for those whose flight was heavily delayed or cancelled. This has particularly bee the case for the US, which have been facing severe summer weather over the past few weeks.

Many eastern transit hubs, such as Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and Orlando, have been experiencing unfavourable weather. Storms, as well as low cloud cover and reduced visibility, have sparked a series of delays and cancellations. The US domestic flight network in particular has been struck by the issue. Moreover, the effects of the heavy weather have been amplified by air traffic controller shortages.

On Saturday 15 August 2026, for example, 6,120 flights within, into, or out of the United States were delayed and 419 were cancelled according to data by flight-tracking platform FlightAware. On Sunday 16 August, those numbers respectively amounted to 9,641 and 455, while Monday 17 August saw 7,409 delays and 238 cancellations.

Flight delays and cancellations on August 16 © Flight Aware

During the high summer season, when traveller numbers are high and many flights are (almost) fully booked, the severe weather, personnel shortages, and reduced number of available seats have been leading to heavy disruptions. Especially when flights are cancelled, travellers are given a very reduced number of options, often forcing them to wait days before being able to take another flight.

“The accommodation problem is a very real problem, and you run out of options very quickly,” Robert W. Mann Jr., airline industry analyst and former airline executive, told The Washington Post.

Although it is impossible to completely avoid flight delays or cancellations, there are, however, a couple of reflexes to keep in mind when a flight is being threatened by severe delays or cancellation.

1. Monitor airline travel alerts.

Severe weather often causes airlines to issue alerts beforehand, giving passengers the option to rebook before the flight is delayed or cancelled. If possible, try to change flights as soon as possible, as some seats are usually still available at this point.

Once a flight has officially been cancelled, the number of available seats in the following hours or days will quickly diminish. Try to get in touch with your travel agent or airline as soon as possible in order to make arrangements, whether it is a refund or a rebooking.

In order to increase your chances of quickly reaching your destination, it helps to be flexible. When talking to a customer officer, try to be open to the idea of an alternative flight route or transportation option.

Rebooking and refund policies do tend to change from one airline to another. Knowing what (not) to expect from your airline, travel insurance, or travel agent may make all the difference when time if of the essence.
