With the conflict between Israel, the US, and Iran estimated to be costing the travel sector $600 million daily, negative consumer sentiment and fears of disruption are spilling into the wider region. Some would-be vacationers are now questioning how safe it is to visit Türkiye — a nation that forms a strategic crossroads between the Black Sea, Mediterranean, and Middle East.

Türkiye recorded an all-time high of 63.94 million tourists overall in 2025, and 52.78 million of them were international visitors. Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) figures show tourism revenues increased 6.8% to $65.23 billion, exceeding the official Medium-Term Program (OVP) target of $64 billion.

But those successes could be under threat if traveller sentiment turns against the Anatolian republic, especially in Russia, Germany and the UK, which are the country’s top source markets. The UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) updated its advice on 1 March 2026 to note that “regional escalation poses significant security risks and has led to travel disruption.” It also added information about entering Türkiye across the land border from Iran.

The border remains open visa-free for people travelling on UK or Iranian passports (for stays of up to 90 days). British nationals intending to cross the land border from Iran into Türkiye, “must request facilitation from the British Embassy in Ankara by contacting the FCDO before travelling to the border.” These travellers must state which border point they intend to use and provide personal details (name, date of birth, details of travel document used to enter Türkiye). They should also indicate whether they are contacting from Iran or from the UK on behalf of a relative.

#Turkey New information about entering Turkey across the land border from Iran https://t.co/P8KRF01Kao pic.twitter.com/mJuG82rJVk
— FCDO Travel Advice (@FCDOtravelGovUK) March 1, 2026

Turkish authorities have also advised that Iranian authorities have closed the crossing point at Esendere-Serow on the Iranian side to daily traders entering and exiting over the course of a day. Still, the usual entry requirements will apply, including the fact that British nationals can enter without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Anyone intending to leave Iran overland does so at their own risk, the alert says, pointing out that “In Iran, holding a British passport or having perceived connections to the UK can be reason enough for the Iranian authorities to detain you.”

The FCDO warning also advises against all travel to “within 10km of the border with Syria due to fighting and a heightened risk of terrorism.” However, this is not new guidance, with similar warnings about southeastern parts of the country bordering Syria and Iran, as well as terrorism risks elsewhere, dating back over 20 years.

Due to regional events, we advise U.S. citizens to:
•Avoid travel to southeastern Türkiye, including areas bordering Iran, Iraq, and Syria.
•Stay alert to demonstrations
•Check with travel providers – regional military activity may disrupt flights
•Monitor local media &… pic.twitter.com/AR180jYyhn
— U.S. Embassy Türkiye (@USEmbTurkiye) February 28, 2026

Despite those warnings, central and western coastal regions have remained popular destinations—and continue to function untouched amid the current security situation hitting southern and Gulf neighbours, PA Turkey reports.

The affected territories are thousands of kilometres away, tourism officials, operators and stakeholders emphasise. Meanwhile, the daily activity of those living and vacationing in Türkiye’s capital, Istanbul, and the country’s Mediterranean and Aegean “riviera” resorts such as Antalya, Bodrum, Fethiye, and Marmaris, “remains largely unaffected,” the news platform reports.

In terms of aviation, flights from European hubs to Turkish airports and with Turkish Airlines are still operating normally. As is the case for carriers internationally, the only cancelled flights are those to destinations in the Middle East and the Gulf, such as Dubai, Doha, and Bahrain, closed because of the threat to airspace posed by the Israel, US, and Iran conflict.

Passengers with Parkinson’s disease are no longer required to present a medical certificate when flying with Turkish Airlines, following a public outcry over the treatment of a passenger with the condition who was denied boarding in Istanbul.

Previously, the company would ask travellers to provide a doctor’s report issued within ten days before the flight. The document had to state whether the passenger could travel ‘accompanied or unaccompanied’, and it had to include not only the doctor’s name and signature, but also his diploma number. In addition, it had to confirm that ‘there is no harm in travelling by plane’.

This rule created unnecessary costs and administrative hurdles for passengers with Parkinson’s disease.

Turkish Airlines is the only carrier with such a rule.

Turkish Airlines ensures the safety of each of its passengers. For this reason, passengers with Parkinson's disease can board flights with a doctor's report stating that there is "There is no risk of travel." It must also state whether the passenger can travel with or without a…
— TK HelpDesk (@TK_HelpDesk) October 28, 2025

Parkinson’s disease can affect movement and cause tremors, stiffness, and balance issues. The main risk posed by flying, however, is dehydration, which can easily be managed by the crew.

The policy came under intense scrutiny after Mark Mardell, a former BBC journalist with Parkinson’s disease, was prevented from boarding a Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to London last October. Mardell had flown to Turkey without difficulty on another airline and said he was unaware of any special certification requirement when he arrived at the airport for his return flight.

'I feel that Parkinson's is seen as a bit of a Cinderella condition, a bit misunderstood'

Mark Mardell spoke to @SophyRidgeSky & @WilfredFrost about being blocked from boarding a plane because he has Parkinson's disease https://t.co/O8NgudnmMC pic.twitter.com/C0fTrGErOQ
— Ridge & Frost (@RidgeandFrost) December 2, 2025

He said he felt humiliated when staff allegedly pointed to his shaking hands and refused to let him board without a doctor’s note. He spent the night in Istanbul and eventually bought a new ticket with Wizz Air to return to the UK. Turkish Airlines later refunded his original ticket, but, according to Mardell, they have not apologised.

Following a complaint to the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and subsequent media coverage, the airline has removed the explicit reference to Parkinson’s disease from the English version of its website. It now states that ‘sick passengers’ may be required to provide a doctor’s report, issued within ten days of travel, confirming that they are fit to fly. The other languages, however, still list Parkinson as one of the conditions requiring a certificate, fuelling concerns about how uniformly the new policy is being applied.

The CAA has stated that there is no justification for singling out Parkinson’s disease, or any other disability, for special medical clearance unless there is a clear clinical risk. Parkinson’s UK also criticised the original policy as ‘ill-informed’, emphasising that most people with the condition can travel independently. Furthermore, both disability advocates and travel organisations have highlighted that the policy creates unjustified obstacles and perpetuates stigma for people with Parkinson’s.

Following an incident involving Mark Mardell, our CEO has written to Turkish Airlines.

We urge them to change their unnecessary policies so people with Parkinson’s can travel freely. We’d be happy to offer training so they understand Parkinson’s better. pic.twitter.com/pHndMR3BTt
— Parkinson's UK (@ParkinsonsUK) November 27, 2025

While the revised wording seems to align with standard international practices, Mardell and disability advocates are concerned that the term is too vague and could extend uncertainty to a broader group of travellers with long-term conditions. ‘What does “sick” mean? What illnesses count?’ asked Mardell.

The former UK Home Secretary, Lord Blunkett, welcomed the decision to remove the explicit requirement for people with Parkinson’s, and described Turkish Airlines’ original behaviour as ‘totally unacceptable’, urging the carrier to clarify the new policy and properly train staff.

The issue of accessibility in air travel is growing in importance worldwide. Airlines are increasingly expected to adopt policies that accommodate passengers with disabilities or medical conditions.

A sheep’s milk cheese from Türkiye has been awarded geographical indication (GI) by the European Union, acknowledging its origins in the Erzincan region in the east of the country and the traditions behind its production.

What is Erzincan Tulum and what does GI status mean?

Erzincan Tulum cheese, made with ewe’s milk and barrel-matured for at least four months in casings made of sheepskin or goatskin, is now officially described by the EU as having an off-white colour, crumbly texture and rich, salty flavour. Those characteristics are influenced, the EU agrees, by a range of local conditions, including the region’s climate, geography, and flora, as well as the know-how of locals who make it.

The GI designation gives the cheese legal protection across all EU member states, meaning only cheese made in specified areas using the right methods as per the registration documents and specifications can be called Erzincan Tulum.

“We congratulate Türkiye on the registration of Erzincan Tulum Cheese as the 32nd Turkish product to receive Geographical Indication (GI) protection in the European Union,” the EU Delegation to Türkiye said on social media platform, X. “This recognition highlights the richness of Türkiye’s local and traditional products and strengthens the cultural and economic ties. We commend the efforts of all institutions and individuals involved in this achievement, including the Erzincan Chamber of Commerce and Industry,” the statement added.

Often served at breakfast, alongside olives, tomatoes, and fresh bread, Erzincan Tulum also pairs well with beetroot or grilled vegetables, such as peppers, and is also used in savoury Turkish pastries, like börek and pides.

The benefits of GI status

The EU began looking at product protections like geographical indication back in 1992. The status is generally considered a positive for consumers and producers alike. It is powerful for brand-building and marketing and, although it can increase prices, buyers are often willing to pay more for the authenticity and quality associated with GI products. The label is also claimed to help preserve local cultural heritage and traditional production methods associated with the region concerned.

Famous GI products include champagne, which can only legally carry that name if it is produced in the Champagne region of northeast France. Other countries around the world, including China and India, also have their own systems for recognising the uniqueness of particular products from certain areas.

The Turkish Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a new regulation penalising passengers flying to Türkiye who stand up before the fasten seatbelt sign is turned off, after the plane has landed and is taxiing to the terminal.

The aim of the new policy, according to the authority is intended to reduce the need for cabin crew to repeat safety instructions, often ignored, and to improve both passenger safety and the orderliness of disembarkation. In other words, passengers will now have to wait not only for the seatbelt sign to be switched off, but also for their row to be called before they can disembark.

The new rule, based on Article 143 of the Turkish Civil Aviation Law No. 2920, applies to all airlines operating flights into Türkiye.

As per the Turkish CAA: ‘According to the regulation, airlines are obliged to remind passengers to fasten their seatbelts during and after landing until they reach the parking position and to explicitly point out that any infringement will be reported to the aviation authority, and a fine will be imposed.’

Travellers can broadly be divided in two groups, those who leap up as soon as the plane touches the ground and those who remain seated until the seatbelt sign is turned off.

If you are part of the latter group, you may finally be spared the aggravation of fellow passengers jostling for their bags in the overhead compartments, blocking the aisles, leaning on your armrest, or looming over you, tense and folded in two if tall, as they attempt to jump the queue.

If, on the other hand, you are part of the other group – whether because you need to stretch your legs, are naturally impatient, want to be the first out, or are rushing to catch a connecting flight – you now risk being fined $70 fine (€62).

The classic landing announcement – ‘our aircraft has not yet reached its parking position. Please do not unfasten your seatbelt, stand up, or open the overhead compartments until the seatbelt sign has been switched off’ – has already been upgraded with a firmer warning on Turkish Airlines.

The national carrier is the first to implement the new rule and its landing announcement now includes that ‘passengers who do not comply with the rules will be reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation through a Disruptive Passenger Report, and an administrative fine will be imposed in accordance with the applicable legal regulations’.

Reactions online have been mixed. In response to a post by Behind the Wing, some Facebook users questioned who would be responsible for issuing fines, while others supported the policy. Some remained unconvinced it would have any impact.

Flying to 131 countries, Turkish Airlines currently holds the record for serving the highest number of countries of any airline worldwide.

Two questions remain: Will other airlines follow suit and impose fines on unruly passengers when landing in Türkiye? And will other countries be inspired to introduce similar rules of their own? Much will likely depend on how effective the measure proves to be.

Last year, American Airlines introduced a similar rule, but targeting pre-boarding behaviour, with fines aimed at so-called ‘gate lice’, or passengers who crowd around the gate hoping to board first.

Records could be broken in Türkiye’s Travel & Tourism sector in 2025, if new World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) predictions for the Anatolian republic are correct, with a rise in tourist spending and a solid contribution to national GDP expected.

The optimism comes despite a 5% drop in international visitor spending in 2024, despite foreign visitor numbers increasing by 6.95%, But despite that drop, tourism revenues overall rocketed by 8.3% year-over-year, belying conventional wisdom that foreign guests spend more, according to statistics from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The performance of ₺2.19 trillion (around €50.2 billion) still surpassed previous records and the medium-term national economic target.

€4.5 billion surge predicted

Now estimates for 2025 project that Travel and Tourism could account for ₺5.2TN (€119 billion) of Turkish receipts, or 12% of the country’s GDP over the period. That’s a surge of ₺200BN (€4.5 billion) year-on-year.

Visitor spending, both by domestic and foreign guests, is anticipated to increase to ₺2.6TN overall, the report says, with spending by intra- Türkiye travellers expected to comprise over half of that (₺1.4 BN). What’s more, in 2025, 3.3 million people across the territory will be employed in the segment, roughly stable compared to 2024, at around 10% of all jobs.

Growth not guaranteed

But she issued a reminder that growth is never a given. To avoid further falls in spending like those seen in 2024, Türkiye will have to adapt and invest. Speaking to Andalou Agency (AA), she explained: “Türkiye’s vision has been important in driving its growth in tourism, and it’s been very important that Türkiye has put itself on the map as a tourist destination.

With over 1,000 döner shops in Berlin alone, döner kebab has become an integral part of German life. This could however change in the near future as the Turkish government has submitted an application to the European Commission, asking to recognise döner kebab as a Turkish specialty. If this would to be accepted, most döner shops in Berlin or Germany, would no longer be able to use the name as their recipe doesn’t follow the official guidelines.

In order to comprehend the tensions created through the application, it is necessary to look at the roots of döner kebab. A history which, according to culinary historian Mary Işın who has written a paper on the subject called Ottoman Kebab Culture and the Rise of the Döner Kebab, is difficult and unclear enough as it is. Because while the term döner kebab wasn’t used in any Ottoman sources until 1908, images of the dish circulated for centuries before that.

Tombik
Türkiye
4.7
#1 best-rated sandwich in the world

Tombik or gobit kebab is voted the best sandwich in the world by TasteAtlas's audience. Check out the full list of best rated sandwiches in the world: https://t.co/kkL1kLsymV

Video and Tombik: @kozdoner_tr pic.twitter.com/POLtv2pJSa
— TasteAtlas (@TasteAtlas) February 27, 2023

However, it seems like until the 1970’s, döner kebab was mainly made with lamb, served on a plate with onions. Then, Turkish immigrants – it is unclear wether Mehmet Aygün or Kadir Nurman was the first to do so – in Berlin adapted the recipe and started to serve it in a piece of pita bread, topping all kinds of meat with a wide variety of vegetables, sauces, and even fruit.

When going into one of the many döner shops in Berlin these days, one will be able to find an almost never-ending list of varieties on the recipe. The döner business is a booming one, as it generates some € 2.3 billion in annual sales in Germany alone according to the Berlin-based Association of Turkish Döner Producers in Europe. German left-wing party Die Linke even asked the German government in 2024 to introduce a Dönerpreisbremse or döner price cap.

#WorldFoodDay Celebrating the doner kebab, Germany's favorite fast food! Originally Turkish, this savory sandwich was popularized in the 70's by Kadir Nurman, a Turkish guest worker. With around 40,000 kebab shops in Germany, doner is a delicious symbol of culinary fusion. pic.twitter.com/ndUYz5dCiI
— German Embassy Washington (@GermanyinUSA) October 16, 2024

Regulations are met with opposition

The Turkish application might well put a cap on that döner enthusiasm in Germany, or it might at least force döner shops to change their name. In their bid to recognise döner kebab as a Turkish specialty, giving it the same status as a Neapolitan pizza for example, the government is asking for a very strict recipe.

Beef would have to come from cattle that is at least 16 months old and should be cut into pieces measuring 3-5 millimeters in thickness. Lamb would have the same thickness requirements, while chicken should be cut 1-2 centimeters thick. Moreover, it should be marinated with specific amounts of animal fat, yoghurt or milk, onion, salt and thyme, as well as black, red, and white peppers.

Application submitted by #Türkiye for "Döner" to be granted Traditional Speciality Guaranteed .

This opens the opposition phase, which lasts for 3 months.

https://t.co/BiPrPcrHNZ #GeographicalIndications #EUQuality #TSG pic.twitter.com/FKIE459vym
— EUR-Lex (@EURLex) April 24, 2024

Following the proposal, German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture filed an opposition to the Turkish application according to Euronews.

“The kebab is part of Germany, and the diversity of its preparation methods reflects the diversity of our country — this must be preserved. In the interests of the many fans in Germany, we are committed to ensuring that the doner kebab can remain as it is prepared and eaten here,” Germany’s Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture told The Associated Press.

The European Commission directed the Turkish and German governments to engage in talks in order to find a compromise. Whether or not a compromise will be found, the final decision on registration will be up to the European Commission.

The 19 March arrest of Istanbul’s mayor, a well-known political rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has led to days of street protests, hundreds of citizens being detained and the arrest and deportation of foreign journalists from the Anatolian republic, raising questions about how safe Türkiye is for visitors now.

Erdogan cannot run for presidency again in 2028’s elections, after two decades in power unless he changes Türkiye’s constitution, but many see the detention of his popular adversary Ekrem Imamoglu on corruption charges as an attempted power grab. As a result, pro-democracy demonstrators have gathered en masse in cities across the country, filling streets and parks, brandishing flags and placards, and chanting for “Rights, law, justice!”

People in Turkey are rising up in protest against Erdogan…

And Elon Musk is suspending accounts to help shield him.

Free speech absolutist, my arse. pic.twitter.com/3nNdpufeBl
— Art Candee (@ArtCandee) March 22, 2025

Outbreaks of violence and mass arrests

While The Independent calls the protests “largely peaceful”, the uprising has turned violent in places, with water cannons, tear gas, pepper spray, and plastic bullets deployed by riot police against protestors in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir. Demonstrators have responded with fireworks, missiles and other projectiles. Nearly 2000 arrests have been made and over 100 police have been injured.

Türkiye is a popular holiday destination thanks to its warm climate, Mediterranean, Aegean, Black Sea, Marmara Sea coastlines, vibrant and ancient culture, and gastronomy. The UK is one of its top source markets for tourism, sending 4.4 million British visitors out of a total 62.3 million in 2024, an increase of 16.6% year-on-year.

But in an update to its travel advisory for country made six days after Imamoglu’s arrest, the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) has warned that “Demonstrations and protests are currently taking place in Istanbul and other cities across Turkey. Demonstrations may become violent. The police response has included use of tear gas and water cannons.”

In addition to long-standing terrorism warnings for certain areas of the country, especially near the Syrian border and in the southeast, the advice now tells visitors to “monitor local media, plan ahead to avoid disruption, and avoid crowds and demonstrations.”

Bans on gatherings and transport disruption

Germany, also in the top three source nations for Turkish tourism (alongside Russia), has also highlighted the deteriorating security situation in advice from its Federal Foreign Office. “In Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, and other cities, political protests and bans on public gatherings are currently leading to closures of roads, subway stations, and public transport disruptions. It is currently unclear how long these restrictions will last,” the German guidance says, echoing UK calls to keep abreast of the “current situation and possible restrictions” and to avoid large gatherings and “be extremely careful in their vicinity.”

Germany warns its citizens that they must always carry ID and that participating in protests even in Germany can “be grounds for arrest, travel bans, or refusal of entry” in Türkiye, though this refers mainly to actions in relation to Kurdish independence.

Today (Wednesday, 22 January) has been declared a national day of mourning in Türkiye, for the victims of a fire that started in the early hours of Tuesday at a popular Turkish ski resort, claiming 76 lives, from whom at least 20 children, and left dozens other injured.

The Grand Kartal Hotel in Kartalkaya, located in the Bolu Mountains, around 300 km east of Istanbul had 234 checked-in guests in the midst of a winter school holiday that saw families with children flock to the resort. Unfortunately, what was meant to be a snow escapade turned into a hellish experience for everyone at the hotel.

According to reports, the fire broke out at 3:27 am local time (1:27 am Brussels time) in the restaurant of the establishment. The lack of fire alarms and sprinklers combined with the wood façade of the 12-storey building led to the quick spread of the flames.

Yangın olur uçagın yok,
Sel olur alt yapın yok,
Deprem olur üstyapın yok,
Maden patlaması olur, yaşam odan yok,
Enflasyon %70 olur, çaren yok,
Otel yanar, yangın merdiveni yok.
10 milyon mültecin olur, planın yok.

Tek sözün;
Bayrak inmeyecek, ezan susmayacak.#Bolu pic.twitter.com/0DoPsNIg4u
— Umberto ECO (@umberto_eco_) January 21, 2025

To make matters worse, the fire department only responded at 4:15 am, with fire trucks reaching the site one to one and a half hours later, according to witnesses. And, once there, their efforts to put out the fire were also limited by the location of the hotel. “Because the rear side is on a slope, intervention could only be made from the front and sides,” explained Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

“Our hearts and souls are hurting and we are currently trying to fulfil this duty,” President Tayyip Erdogan said at one funeral for eight victims in Bolu, referring to finding out why the fire was so deadly and if anyone can be held accountable. “I pray for patience for the entire family and our nation.”

President Erdogan seen crying during funeral, aftermath of ski resort hotel fire in Bolu, Türkiye pic.twitter.com/LugcXQjsTy
— Türkiye Today (@turkiyetodaycom) January 22, 2025

Six prosecutors have been appointed to lead the investigation into the devastating incident, with nine people already in custody for questioning, including the manager of the hotel. Questions have been raised about the hotel’s fire safety standards with the head of the Turkish Fire Protection and Education Foundation telling the BBC that the size of the fire suggested that “the fire system either does not exist or was not designed in accordance with the standards”.

Survivors have said that no fire alarm went off and those lucky enough to evacuate the building did so because they could smell the smoke. By the time many of the guests realised what was happening, it was too late for them leave the hotel, as the hallways were already engulfed by smoke and no appropriate lighting could be seen to point them towards emergency exists.

In horrific details, witnesses have described how people, desperately trying to escape the flames, threw themselves and their children out of the windows, from as high up as the 11th floor. At least two of the deaths were caused by falls instead of directly the fire.

“They tried to climb down using bedsheets. The bedsheets ripped as one friend tried … and he unfortunately fell on his head,” Omer Sakrak, an employee of a neighbouring hotel told Reuters. “One father was yelling about his one year-old child: ‘I will throw my child or he will burn’.”

While Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy told reporters that the hotel underwent inspections in 2021 and 2024 and that “no negative situation regarding fire competence” was reported by the fire department, Bolu Mayor Tanju Ozcan said that the last check was carried out in 2007. After that, the hotel entered the competencies of the Ministry of Tourism and, Ozcan said, no control has been carried out since.

“There will always be fires, but we would not expect so many people to die in this type of building,” said Prof Sevket Ozgur Atayilmaz, head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at Yildiz Technical University, who has worked on fire safety planning. “If the structure is designed correctly for fire, if there are escape routes, and if the smoke is evacuated correctly, it is possible to overcome the fire without loss of life.”

While the investigation is still ongoing, so far only 45 of the victims have been identified, with the rest of the bodies undergoing DNA testing so they can be returned to their families.

On Sunday evening, a Russian plane landing in the southern Turkish city of Antalya, caught fire after a troubled landing.

Departing from the Black Sea resort of Sochi, in southwest Russia, the Azimuth Airlines plane landed in Antalya in conditions of wind shear, according to the carrier. Wind shear is a change in wind direction and/or speed over short distances, which can affect an aircraft’s headwind or tailwind, affecting a plane’s intended flight path and requiring ” substantial control action”, according to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

At 9:34 pm local time, the pilot made an emergency call, after a fire started from the left engine of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. Airport rescue crews and firefighters quickly arrived at the scene and put out the flames, according to a statement from the Turkish ministry of transport.

According to the ministry, after landing, the landing gear of the aircraft broke, causing damage to the fuel tank and engine. A fire broke out as a result of fuel contacting the hot engine and brake systems.

Fire Panic on Russian Plane at Antalya Airport!
A Sukhoi Superjet 100 type passenger plane belonging to the Russian airline Azimuth encountered a serious accident during its landing at Antalya Airport.

Meanwhile, cabin crew initiated the evacuation procedure, deploying the inflatable slide from the front door on the right side of the plane, opposite to the fire. All 85 passengers, including children, and 6 cabin crew members safely evacuated the aircraft with no injuries reported.

Writing about the incident in Antalya on X, Istanbul Airport praised the quick emergency response, saying it was a ” record speed evacuation and fire intervention”, as “Airport ARFF teams arrived at the scene within seconds and brought the fire under control within 2 minutes”.

“Time is very precious in airplane fires. In the first seconds, it is extremely important to intervene in fires that reach a temperature of 600 degrees in 5 minutes”, Turan Ayanlar, Deputy Head of Aviation Training Department at the Turkish State Airports Administration also praised the quick emergency response, noting that the ARFF teams arrived at the scene in 23 seconds.

In another post in the same series, Istanbul Airport also highlighted the questioning quality of Sukhoi, that have a track record especially of defective landing gear. Moreover, Russian aviation and the quality of its equipment have been severely impacted by Western sanctions following the invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Among the sanctions, closure of airspace for Russian aircraft and the cease in supplying new aircraft or spare parts and even stopping access to pilot training have paralysed Russian aviation.

Flag carrier Aeroflot however bet on domestic flights in addition to launching a new international network towards countries without sanctions. Putin also passed a law allowing for the inscription of foreign aircraft in the Russian national registry, thus making their repossession difficult. Russian Minister of Transport, Vitaly Savelyev said last year at the time that almost 800 aircraft were transferred to the domestic registry.

Despite all these and billions of roubles poured into the survival of Russia’s aviation, airlines were still forced to strip planes for parts, not only for the Boeing and Airbus jets, but also for the Russian-made Sukhoi, the parts for which are made abroad, even if it is ultimately assembled in Russia. Last summer, flag carrier Aeroflot was reported operating at least nine planes without functioning brakes due to wearing out.

Character actors will welcome guests in the lobby and kids will enjoy a diary full of PlayStations, dance machines and a sweet bar, as well as Club Nick’s facilities and activities. Meanwhile adults can relax in the spa, or visit the private fitness centre, Turkish baths, or head poolside.

Entertainment for everyone

While you’re indulging in a massage or a pilates session, it will all be going off in the new park attractions. A giant “Jellyfish Jam” ride will swing visitors through an underwater Bikini Bottom location from SpongeBob SquarePants. The Star Trek: Wild Galaxy 5D cinema offers space adventures, and the PAW Patrol will take the brave on an open air ‘Skye’s Flyers’ helicopter ride.

Other family-friendly, high octane action is on hand over at the Turtle Coaster, one of the world’s longest water slides at 457-metres length and where thrill seekers can reach speeds of 24 km/h in 4-person boats. Or the park invites you to “get behind the wheel in Traffic Trouble! Whether you want to show off your driving skills or improve yourself.” But watch out for obstacles laid by PAW Patrol’s Mayor Humdinger.

Other facilities

To top up energy levels, hospitality options planned for the resort hotel include Character Dining, Le Spatula, and the Snick Lounge and Vitamin Bar. There will also be musical parades and a range of restaurants within the park itself.

And, in addition to the all-inclusive service at the park resort, hotel guests will also benefit from complimentary one-day access to the nearby Rixos Premium Belek hotel. A shuttle service will deliver you to the door, behind which, according to press materials, more luxury spa facilities and a private beach await.
