Recalling the first, sometimes homemade, pop-up tent trailers from the early 20^th century and beloved “expanding” campervans of the 1950s such as Volkswagen’s Westfalia, the Dethleffs C.Fold trailer concept has a split-shell design, taking the vehicle from a low-profile wedge shape that stores conveniently in a garage and is aerodynamic for transit, to expanded accommodation that offers more than 1.8 metres of headroom when fully deployed. 

At just under five and a half metres in length and weighing just 775kg, it is light enough for EV owners to tow without massively compromising their range. The C.Fold’s lightness is achieved by dispensing with heavy EV battery packs and drive systems and deploying an Alucore aluminium-honeycomb composite body, a pulley system and hinges. It is insulated with recycled PET bottles.

Transforming the body shell into its ultimate camping form is achieved with a button press or via a mobile app. With the concept still in development, images on Dethleffs’ website show a sofa bed in the cosy, ambient-lit, lower end of the vehicle, and a kitchen-dinette at the taller end. There are overhead cabinets and windows that can be opened and possess shades that are integrated into the walls, so there will be no need to hang those retro curtains that look cute but can be a space-hogging nuisance.

The concept stems from a request by Dethleffs aficionados, Monika and Peter Marchart, who found that when they bought an EV, their camping pursuits were curtailed by the fact that towing a caravan cut their range in half, from 400km to just 200km per charge.

While the Marcharts are long-term lovers of camping and road trips, the new Dethleffs concept comes at a time when more people are turning to the joy of the open road, according to consumer data.

Figures from the United States recreational vehicle (RV) industry indicate the appeal of RV holidays surged by almost a third in 2025. The RV Industry Association’s Holiday Travel Intention Survey towards the end of 2025, carried out by Cairn Consulting, revealed 28 million Americans were planning RV trips between four and seven hours from home over the winter – a year-on-year increase of 33%. What’s more, nearly 4-in-10 leisure travellers (39%) plan to take an RV trip in the coming year, “a significant increase,” the Association says.

And as well as family and friends, fur babies also get to experience the thrill of the open road, the survey indicates, with 67% of RVers planning to bring their pets along on winter RV trips, making RVing “the most pet-friendly travel mode this season,” the Association says.

After the uncertainty of air travel during COVID-19 and the staff shortages, delays, and cancellations that have characterised the post-pandemic period of recovery, Monika Geraci, RV Industry Association spokesperson, said RVs help to reduce the unpredictability and overwhelm associated with the season’s travel.

“Whether you’re parked at the base of a ski slope in Colorado, visiting family along the coast, or chasing sunshine with your pets in tow, RVing delivers the comfort of home and the freedom to roam without the cancellations, delays, or stress that often come with other forms of travel, Geraci said, noting: “Twenty-eight million Americans know that just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you have to hang up your keys.”

The popularity of RVs is being propelled, the Association claims, by planned purchases in 2026 by the “younger” Millennial (32%) and Gen Z (35%) generations (though perhaps the sector has forgotten that the oldest Millennials are now nearly halfway through their forties). Overall purchase interest remains “steady,” the figures show, at 26%. Prospective purchasers see RVs as “a tech-friendly, flexible, and affordable way to explore,” the press release said.

Perhaps thanks to that affordability, 70% of RVers will plan three or more trips in the next year, spending roughly $1,500 (around €1,290) per trip, which the Association says will “generate millions of dollars into local economies nationwide.”

The site includes five grass pitches, 18 hardstanding pitches, 22 fully serviced pitches, and 27 adult-only pitches, plus four amenity blocks (two unisex) and a 24-hour launderette. The dog-friendly café serves full English breakfasts, lunches, homemade cakes and themed dinners, and the licensed shop sells bread, beer and local produce, and families can enjoy a large children’s play park.

There are additional pubs and restaurants a few minutes’ drive away from the camping site.

However, even if you actually enjoy putting up your tent and rolling out your sleeping bag and mattress, chances are there’s still one thing you haven’t figured out just yet. Whether you’re setting up camp at a festival or in the middle of the wide wilderness, keeping your tent looking tidy and clean is a challenge only a few of us have mastered so far. All the others are faced with an enormous mess after just one night and with no idea how to handle it. Luckily for you, we were quite curious as well about tips on how to keep that tent tidy and so we went looking for the best tricks we could find. So, with love from us to you: how to keep your tent clean this summer.

1. Pack wisely

As always, everything starts with the right preparations. Maybe you think packing all your stuff into your enormous backpack without any order or logic is a good idea, but it certainly isn’t. Sure, it will save you some time beforehand, but once you’re there in your tent looking for your toothbrush only to realize it’s at the bottom of your bag, you’ll get very frustrated with yourself.

Therefore, try to pack all your stuff into little packing cubes or tote bags and label them. That way, things will stay organised even once you’ve unpacked everything and you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for much quicker. Put the stuff you’ll need immediately upon arrival at the top of you backpack, you’ll be thankful later.

2. Choose your tent carefully

Once again, it’s all about being well-prepared. Unless you’re going hiking and you need to carry your tent around on your back each and every day – in which case you want to opt for the smallest, lightest option possible – try to choose a tent model with a vestibule. As the name suggests, this is the perfect place to store all the stuff you don’t actually need when you’re sleeping. Shoes, clothes, toiletries, even cooking gear: keep it all separate from your sleeping gear.

3. Pick the right spot

Given, you don’t always have much choice when setting up your tent. When you’re on a camping site or at a festival, you pretty much set up camp where they tell you to. Yet, if you’re a bit more flexible, if you’ve got the choice, try to pick the right spot to set up your tent. A tree right next to it can for example be pretty handy when it comes to staying organised. You can attach some stuff to its branches for example (of course, show some respect and clean up afterwards) or it can double as a handy seating spot. Trees, they’re real life-savers, even when you’re camping.

4. Unpack

Leaving everything in your backpack isn’t a good idea if you want to stay organised. Once you’ve installed your tent, try to find the courage to unpack everything and give it a spot in your vestibule. If everything is packed into separate bags, you don’t have to take everything out of course. Just line up the bags and know what’s where.

5. Handle your garbage

You might not always think of it while packing your bags but garbage bags are an essential part of your camping gear. Put them somewhere in your vestibule or attach them to a tree outside and put all garbage immediately in there. Don’t let things roam inside your tent. Don’t be lazy. By throwing everything away immediately, your tent will stay clean much longer and you won’t be harassed by unwanted insects or such. A dustpan and brush can be handy as well if you want to clean up little bits of grass or other stuff that has somehow made its way inside your tent.

If you want to make your literal staycation even more special, we’ve found the perfect way to do so. Belgian label Autentic has just released a series of five different luxury tents, which are perfect if you want to turn your backyard into a personal glamping experience. The so-called Bell tents are made out of cotton and come in a range of different sizes, from 2,6 meters to 7 meters in diameter. Clearly, there’s something for everyone out there and that doesn’t just apply to the sizing. The tents come in five different colours as well: Turmeric, Roasted Pumpkin, Moss, Aubergine and Desert. Whatever your garden looks like, there will be a tint to your taste.

Mainly being a cheap way of travelling and the fact that you’re pretty much free when it comes to choosing your spot for the night. Two things we’re very much into.

The only problem is: sleeping in a tent isn’t always that comfortable and you have to arrive on time, in order to set everything up before the night falls. That way, it not only offers a comfortable sleeping space for two people but it can also be used as a dining space for up to four guests.

It’s not surprising camping is gaining in popularity again these days. After a year filled with Covid-19-troubles, during which we spent most of our time inside, we desperately want to go and discover the world. Reconnect with nature. Spend time with our family and friends. Enjoy life. Experience adventures. And honestly, there’s no better way to do so than by going camping.

Different forms of camping

Of course, there are a lot of ways to go camping and there’s one for very budget out there. You could opt for the classic way, pack your tent and a sleeping bag and book a spot on a camping ground. Easy and cheap. If you’re up for a bit of an adventure, bivouacking is a fine choice. As this isn’t allowed everywhere, this asks for some preparation beforehand yet it’s even more satisfying – and cheaper, actually. Of course, sleeping in a tent isn’t that comfortable so we’d understand if you’d rather sleep in a van, a camping car or a mobile home. Whether you rent one or buy one, is up to you. And if you prefer a picture-perfect holiday, you could of course go glamping, yet another totally different experience.

Bivvying: the definition

But today, we’re not here to talk about any of those options. Today, we talk about bivvying. One look online is enough to understand it’s a trend, yet what exactly is bivvying? Well, it’s the most basic form of camping. You don’t even need a tent – just a sleeping bag and a waterproof bivvy bag to prevent you from getting soaked during the night. Once you’ve got those two tools, the world is your oyster. You choose a spot, put down your sleeping bag for the night and wait for nature to surprise you. Don’t expect to sleep well though – you won’t.

The Guardian writer and fervent bivvyist Susanne Masters describes it as follows: “When I bivvy I’m not in search of sleep. I know I’ll wake up frequently, feeling restricted by my sleeping bag. Bivvying is camping at its simplest: sleeping outside without a tent and minimal gear. It isn’t about a comfortable night’s rest. It’s about squeezing an adventure into a humdrum week; it’s about being in nature, hearing hedgehogs snuffling and waking to the dawn chorus. It’s a short, sharp dose of escapism that has become even more restorative in the past 15 months.”

1. Just for the night

As a bivvyist, you want to keep your impact on your surroundings to a minimum. Which doesn’t just mean you sleep under the open sky, yet it also means you don’t light a campfire, you don’t cook, you don’t put on music. Which is quite different to the way most of us imagine camping. It also means it’s not something you do for nights in a row when you’re hiking, as you’ll need to cook something for yourself in that scenario. Most people who go bivvying therefore opt for a place close to home. They eat at home, they wash themselves at home and THEN they go out in search of the perfect spot. The whole experience lies in what happens during the night, not in what happens during the day before nor after.

2. Allowed or not?

If you’re wondering whether or not bivvying is allowed in your country, we can’t give you a straight answer. Everything depends on where you live and how closely the rules are guarded. Nick Hayes, author of ‘The Book of Trespass’, explains it there as follows: “In all my years sleeping out, I’ve never been caught or asked to leave. That’s because no one has ever seen me. This isn’t hard: you’ve got to get out into the English countryside to realize just how much open space there is, and how many snug options there are for a night’s snooze. You don’t need to go anywhere near a home or private space. I prefer woods – not just because they block wind chill and rain, but also because few people want to walk through the woods at night.”

One last piece of advice if you’d like to take up bivvying yourself: choose your spot wisely. A slightly covered place, like a forest, under a single tree or under a rock, fits the purpose best. You don’t want to be totally unprotected from Mother Nature neither.

1. Facilities and attractions

According to the official website, the site will have a range of pre-erected, unfurnished bell tents and scout tents which are available to hire for 3-, 4- and 5-night stays, all of which will be well-spaced and spread across Worthy Farm. A central village green at Williams Green will host the best of local food traders selected by the Glastonbury Festival markets team, along with speciality coffees,  a campsite bar and village store selling local produce and freshly baked bread. The Kidz’ Field Pink Castle and Green Kids Cadmus Ship will be available for children to enjoy, and the Pyramid field, instead of housing the main Pyramid Stage as it usually does, will be open for picnics and bike rides.

Guests are also welcome to roam the farm, whilst the site in general will have ‘a distinct festival flavour, delivered with a family-friendly audience in mind’, and each week will see a new programme of additional activities published. There will also be showers and property lock-up facilities available onsite, with Glastonbury’s three main supported causes, Oxfam, Greenpeace and WaterAid present at the site, ‘with a shared focus on tackling climate change’.

Glastonbury organisers and owners of the farm, Michael and Emily Eavis, highlight that ‘Worthy Pastures is not a party venue: there will not be any live music, soundsystems will not be allowed and a noise curfew will be in place after 11pm.’ They encourage people to ‘Instead, come for nature, fresh air, calm and tranquillity.’ Bookings for short breaks will open from 1st May.

2. Glastonbury Festival

Since 1981 Glastonbury Festival has been held most years, except for ‘fallow years’ (such as 2018) which are taken mostly at five-year intervals in order to give the land, local population, and organisers a break. This year is the second postponing of the festival, which is usually in June, due to the pandemic. It was announced in early April that Glastonbury Festival will receive £900,000 as part of the Culture Recovery Fund, a pot of £400m emergency government culture funding.

1. Shelter and sleeping bags

Seems obvious, right? However, it still sometimes gets forgotten so better safe than sorry. If you are just trying out camping or going for a short time, you might borrow a tent, however, if you are enthusiastic about camping, you will want to invest in a quality one. The choice is big – from a survival or cold weather tent to a canvas tent or even a hammock if the weather is nice and you like sleeping under the stars. A quality sleeping bag is definitely something to take as you never know how low the temperatures may drop, especially during the night, or if there are some insects around that are especially attracted to your blood type.

2. Water

Did you check about the water supply at your camping site? Make sure to double check that there is enough of it and, just in case, take some extra bottles with you as you never know what may happen on the way.

3. All-purpose knife and cooking supplies

First things first – you need a quality all-purpose knife and not only for cooking – there are all sorts of things for which it may come in handy, from setting up the tent to maybe cutting a walking stick. No matter for how many days you’re going camping, you will get hungry. Depending on how your camping facility is equipped and what you plan to eat, take some cooking supplies like pans, mugs and cutlery and of course if needed camping stove, something to start the fire and, well, anything you need for cooking for that matter…including the food. A bit of advice – try not to overdo it and stick with the camping classics like beans, eggs and bacon. Also, keep in mind the storage of groceries – if you’re going somewhere hot and sunny, you either need to take food that doesn’t go bad in heat or take a small cooler with you.

4. First aid kit

Let’s hope that there will be no need to use the first aid kit but it is really an essential that you need to triple-check you packed when going camping. Unfortunately, even a minor cut can ruin a trip if you don’t have something to disinfect it with and a proper band-aid.

5. Clothes

You will of course take the clothes you need depending on the place you’re going to and the number of days you are staying. However, no matter how sunny and warm, be sure to take a warm set of clothes with you such as jacket and long pants, extra socks and underwear as well as waterproof shoes.

6. Hygiene products and personal things

Needless to say, you will take your hygiene products with you for your daily routine, however, keep in mind that you may not have the opportunity to shower whenever you want so make sure you also have some hygiene wipes with you. They will also come in handy when hiking and roaming through nature. Though there are not many things we can’t live without, there are a few that we are used to so make sure to take the things you need with you, just so you don’t get nervous in the middle of the trip.

7. Miscellaneous

There are a couple of more things that are really important when going camping – you will probably not go anywhere without your phone which can also serve as a light but having a good, portable light in addition is also something that is highly recommended. Speaking of phones, be sure you have enough battery and also a solar or portable power charger. As we all know, our phones tend to die when we need them most. Make sure you also bring an insect repellent and sun screen with you to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Last but not least, though camping is fun in itself and you will probably be tired from all the activities, it is always good to bring some fun games or a book with you for the evening  – even if in the end you decide to just enjoy and watch the stars.
