1. Tianmen Mountain Skywalk, China

We can’t help but start with one of the most terrifying and beautiful skywalks we’ve seen. Tianmen Mountain Skywalk is made only for the bravest of the brave. Tianmen, or ‘Heavenly Gate’ Mountain, earned its name from the giant hole in the middle of the mountain that resembles a gate to another world. Only 1.6 m wide, the glass walkway wraps around the cliffs overlooking the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, offering either breathtaking views or serious vertigo, depending on your perspective.

2. Grand Canyon Skywalk, USA

You can get one of the best views of the Grand Canyon in Arizona from the Grand Canyon Skywalk near the Colorado River. The horseshoe-shaped glass skywalk, commissioned and owned by the Hualapai Indian Tribe, has attracted numerous tourists since its opening in 2007, offering spectacular views of one of the USA’s most iconic landscapes.

3. Sapa Glass Bridge, Vietnam

One of northern Vietnam’s most popular destinations, Sapa, is home to a glass bridge with a truly fitting name – Cầu Kính Rồng Mây, meaning Dragon in Cloud Glass Bridge. The name is well-deserved. The 60 m long and 5 m wide bridge stands at an altitude of around 2,000 m above sea level. Located at the top of the Ô Quy Hồ Pass, the view it offers is absolutely stunning.

4. Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge, China

When it opened in 2016, the 430 m long and 300 m high Zhangjiajie glass bridge was the tallest and longest of its kind in the world. Though no longer the record holder, the bridge in China’s Hunan Province still offers extraordinary views. And as if that were not enough, there is a bungee jumping platform in the middle for the truly adventurous.

5. Bihar glass bridge, India

Situated among five scenic hills and inspired by the glass bridge in China’s Hangzhou Province, India’s first glass skywalk is in Rajgir, in Bihar’s Nalanda district. Recently constructed, the bridge accommodates up to 40 visitors at a time and is already attracting tourists and thrill-seekers alike.

6. Dachstein Skywalk, Austria

One of the most spectacular Alpine views is offered from the Dachstein Skywalk in Austria. From here, you can admire the southern part of the Dachstein, a region recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its natural beauty and cultural significance. The circular path also leads over Austria’s longest suspension bridge, giving visitors the chance to enjoy sweeping views of the Alps.

7. Hongyagu Glass Footbridge, China

Located in the scenic Hebei Province of north-eastern China, the Hongyagu Glass Footbridge spans an impressive 488 m, making it the longest glass bridge in the world. It connects two steep cliffs and hangs 288 m above a lush valley. Four metres wide, it provides dramatic views of waterfalls and mountains and a thrilling walk for the brave.

8. Glacier skywalk, Canada

Suspended above a canyon between Banff and Jasper National Parks, the Glacier Skywalk is part of a larger Discovery Walk, complete with educational displays about the area’s geology, wildlife and history. The experience is both informative and awe-inspiring.

9. Chamonix skywalk, France

Though technically not a bridge or walkway, this unique glass installation deserves mention. “Step into the Void”, located on the upper terrace of the Aiguille du Midi, is a glass room with a transparent floor that allows visitors to feel suspended amidst the highest peaks of Western Europe. The experience – and the view – are unforgettable.

A part of the Spanish Archipelago of Canary Islands, Lanzarote is located around 1000 km from the Iberian peninsula and only around 125 km from the north coast of Africa. Having a Subtropical Desert climate, the island is perfect to visit at any time of the year with approximately only 18 rainy days per year and the average daily temperature from 21°C in January to 29°C in August, making it ideal for anyone who likes to enjoy the sun.

There are many beautiful places in Lanzarote where you can stay – from hotels to B&Bs and private accommodation, either in bustling or calm areas, surrounded by nature – the choice is entirely up to you. The one we stayed in and can recommend is Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa, near Puerto Calero. Located in a quiet private spot, right by the sea, you will enjoy the serenity, silence and nature just a 10 min walk along the coast to the vibrant centre of the Puerto Calero where you can find many shops and restaurants. In any case the hotel itself has everything you could possibly need – open and closed swimming pools, spa and wellness, delicious food and wonderful hotel staff that will arrange for anything you need. What we loved the most about this place, besides the most beautiful view from our room, were definitely walks along the coast with amazing scenery just outside the hotel.

Although Lanzarote is a volcanic island, there are also many beaches with the golden or even white sand. One of the favourite tourist spots is definitely Playa Blanca that offers not only a beautiful beach to enjoy but also numerous restaurants where you can try some of the traditional dishes in Lanzarote such as Puntillas de Calamar, delicious deep fried baby squids, or any type of fresh fish or prawns for that matter, usually prepared very simple, with a bit of salt, oil and garlic.

It is needless to say that Lanzarote offers many different activities – from hiking through the unique landscape an camel riding to kayaking, fishing, diving and snorkelling. If you are not so adventurous to go diving but would still like to explore the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, you can enjoy the ride in a submarine with Submarine Safaris – it goes 30 m under the sea and you will discover many fish and marine life as well as the sights of shipwrecks.

One of the  things everyone should visit is definitely the National Park Timanfaya which geologically resulted by the volcanic eruptions that were in the 18th and 19th century. Its extraordinary beauty lies in the volcanic landscape of the ruggedness of the terrain, beautiful nuances of earthly colours, lack of vegetation and the extraordinary lines and silhouettes of volcanoes and shapes created by the lava.

Don’t miss the Montañas del Fuego (Mountains of Fire), the small entrance fee is well worth to see first hand the geothermal activity and enjoy the incredible view from a volcano. To try something a bit different, taste the dishes in El Diablo restaurant cooked using the heat of the volcano. 

A place not to miss is also Charco de los Clicos or the Green Lagoon. You will be mesmerised by the view! Here you can truly testify the incredible art of the nature as the extinct volcano immerses itself in the Atlantic, creating the lagoon. The contrast between the green of the lagoon, the colour caused by the algae and blue of the sky and the sea all framed in the dark volcanic sand will just take your breath away. 

To see the true creative collaboration between the nature and man, visit Los Jameos Del Agua, the place of admiration for anyone who visits. The natural cave and galleries were created during the volcanic eruption of Monte de La Corona while César Manrique, the painter, sculptor and architect who created the look of the island, intervened in the space and created an underground auditorium which is frequently used for shows and concerts because of the superb acoustics. The cave houses a natural lake with many endemic species such as blind crabs which stayed intact and is strictly preserved, making it a place of true harmony between man and nature. 

When traveling around Lanzarote, you will also come across very interesting areas of geometrical shapes that  you will immediately recognise as a human intervention – these are the fertile areas of the volcanic land that are turned to very unique vineyards to produce the vine of Lanzarote with distinct flavour.

Stop by at one of the small vineries for a vine tasting and maybe return home with a bottle or two to remind you of this amazing island.

1. Hydrate regularly 

First things first – when the temperatures are high, your body needs water and plenty of it. Make sure you are hydrated and regularly take fluids – water is the best of course and, to give it a bit of taste, feel free to add some lemon, ginger, or cucumbers in it. This will definitely make it easier for you to get through the day.

2. Find a nature oasis in the city

Nature heals – during cooler periods of the day, early morning or late afternoon/evening, go for a walk in some of the green areas of your city. It would be great if those had some rivers or lakes, or at least maybe some parks with fountains as the water cools the air and brings some freshness to it. A bit of movement, exercise, and fresh air will also do you well, so it is the perfect thing to do at the beginning and the end of each day.

3. Go swimming

Whether it is a river, lake or a swimming pool in your neighbourhood, find a place to swim in the city – this will most definitely help you survive the summer heatwave. In addition, exercise will do you good and you may meet some interesting people who, just like you, are stuck in the city for the moment – maybe you can even arrange some drinks and some friendships could come out of it.

4. Eat well

You will want to eat well during the summer heatwave, using food to get enough vitamins and minerals to endure the heat. Try to eat lighter food like lots of veggies with fish and of course, make sure you have lots of fruits. 5. Make your place livable

Whether you live in a flat or in a house, with or without a terrace or garden, make sure you use your space in the best possible way. Observe where you have the most sun during the day and which parts are in the shade where you can relax or work better. It can get tough to stay all day with the air conditioning so it’s good you use all the space you can and even decorate it summer-style with some lights and plants – it will make spending time more enjoyable in such space.

6. Go for evening drinks

To relax after a long, hot day, enjoy the evening breeze on a terrace, especially if it is a nice cool rooftop with a view. Be mindful about what you order though – don’t overdo it with alcohol as it gets you dehydrated so it’s best to drink in moderation and with plenty of water.

3. Azores, Portugal

Never have I met anyone who visited Portugal and didn’t fall in love with the country. The rich culture, beautiful nature and delicious food is something that you don’t easily forget and when you add to it the wonderful coast and amazing remote islands such as Azores in the Atlantic, the picture is perfect. The mild climate makes it excellent for a sailing trip while the volcanic origin of the nine islands with lush vegetation create a beautiful scenery to sail through. Being quite remote from the mainland, some 1400 km from Lisbon, it is a less crowded tourist destination so it’s ideal if you are looking for some tranquility. If you are lucky enough you may also see some dolphins or even whales passing by, to round up the exquisite experience.

One of the most beautiful routes to sail and most amazing coastlines in Europe is definitely from the Amalfi coast to the Bay of Naples with the gorgeous island of Capri in between. 1. Roasted Turkey with ‘mlinci’ 

Turkey with ‘mlinci’ (purica sa mlincima) is a classic, traditional Croatian cuisine, especially in Zagreb and northern Croatia. And while roasted turkey is well known in many different cuisines, ‘mlinci’ are a Croatian specialty – the thin, usually homemade, dried flatbread is broken in pieces and then mixed with the juices of the roasted turkey. ‘Mlinci’ become soft and delicious, carrying somewhat the turkey flavour, ideally complimenting the meat. Turkey with ‘mlinci’ is usually served at family gatherings and holidays and in Zagreb and northern Croatia it has also become a trademark of a Christmas meal. 

No need to wait for Christmas though – when in Zagreb, treat yourself to the tastiest turkey with ‘mlinci’ at the iconic restaurant Vinodol in the city center.

2. Istrian ‘fuži’

There are many delicacies from the Istria Peninsula that we would recommend and ‘fuži’ are definitely at the top of our list. Once regarded in Istria as a ‘poor man’s everyday meal’ the homemade, twirly pasta is now considered a delicacy and served in some of the best restaurants in Croatia. ‘Fuži’ go best with different types of sauces, called ‘šug’, which is usually made from seafood, octopus or beef, such as the traditional Istrian beef ‘boškarin’. There are also countless vegetarian versions depending on the season – ‘fuži’ are delicious with wild asparagus or truffles that Istria is also very well known for. Whichever version you try, we guarantee you will enjoy it!

For an authentic experience, in Zagreb we can recommend fuži with truffles at Istrian restaurant ‘Vodnjanka’.

3. Čobanac – Slavonian shepherd stew

Čobanac, or ‘the shepherd stew’, is a traditional dish from Slavonia, the eastern part of Croatia. Originally created by Slavonian shepherds, who were spending days in forests, the dish consists of beef and pork meat cut in cubes, lots of onions and a variety of vegetables, including paprika peppers to give it a spicy taste. The traditional ‘čobanac’ is prepared in a copper cauldron under natural fire and takes hours to prepare. There is a saying that a you know ‘čobanac’ is good if, when it spills on your clothing, it can’t be removed anymore. 

To taste traditional ‘čobanac’ in Zagreb, visit ‘Baranjska citadela’ – it is a genuine Slavonian experience.

4. Peka

‘Peka’ or ‘under the bell’ is not a dish but a specific, traditional way to prepare a meal – anything that is prepared in this way is so delicious, making your mouth water just on the mention of it. Usually used along the coast in Dalmatia, this traditional way of making specialties includes preparing the food over open flames using a clay or iron bell – hence the name. No matter if you are preparing lamb, veal or octopus, the food will be as tender as you can possibly imagine and develop a specific flavour in the process. Usually accompanied by potatoes and other vegetables, the juices will give the whole meal a distinct flavour. And not to forget – bread made under the bell is a delicacy in itself and definitely something not to miss!

In Zagreb, one of the best places to try ‘peka’ is certainly the well-known restaurant ‘Okrugljak’.

5. ‘Štrukli’

One of most famous and my favourite traditional Croatian dishes is definitely ‘štrukli’. Originally coming from the northern part of Croatia, Zagorje, ‘štrukli’ dishes have the double role of both main course as well as the dessert. The tasty dough is filled with fresh, creamy cheese, making the perfect combination to enjoy. You can have them sweet or salty, boiled or baked. There are many add-ons to štrukli, like different types of fruit, such as blueberries  or cherries, and the baked ‘štrukli’ go very well with a bit of sour cream on the side.

Some of the most delicious ‘štrukli’ in Zagreb can be found at ‘La Štruk’, a small restaurant specialised in ‘štrukli’. Just watch out not to burn your tongue – they come hot, straight from the oven!

In an almost meditative-like experience you will travel through over fifty countries in a very special way. 2. Sacred Planet

The title of the film already gives you the first hint on what to expect – this documentary will definitely leave you in awe. From deserts of Namibia to white beaches of New Zealand, the documentary takes you to remote corners of the world, not just to see the magnificent surroundings and exceptional animals, but also to meet indigenous people who live in harmony with the nature. Beautiful imagery is complemented by the extraordinary combination of contemporary acoustic and world music and narration by Robert Redford, which all together make it a special experience that will once again convince you of the need to preserve the nature and biodiversity of our planet.

3. A Map for Saturday

If you wish to go backpacking around the world, we definitely recommend watching this one! They say that when you go backpacking, every day is like Saturday so hey – hence the title of the film. Bringing the stories of trekkers in four different countries, it doesn’t only show beautiful landscapes and sceneries but also gives true insights into the world of a backpacker, including interviews with other backpackers on the road. It is not just a way of travel, it is the whole mindset that counts for this different way of life.

4. Dark Tourist

To add a bit of different flavour, we had to add this docu-series. If you are up for some unconventional stories and sightseeing, ’Dark Tourist’ is definitely for you. Presented by journalist David Farrier, the 8-episode New Zealand series takes you to some very interesting places in the world, known historically for death and tragedy and overall dark historical events. From investigating the spots connected to the legacy of Pablo Escobar in Medellin, over to Los Angeles, where he follows the tour of the Manson Family Murders, to discovering more about voodoo in Benin, David takes us to the darker side of history.

5. March of the Penguins

Exploring the migration habits of emperor penguins, this beautiful nature documentary offers mesmerising landscapes of Antarctica. If, like me, you are a travel addict and animal lover but Antarctica may be a bit too cold for you, you will immensely enjoy this film. The white of the ice landscape and blue of the sea, the shimmering surfaces and the amazing animals are sure to warm anyone’s heart. And if this beauty is not enough, there is also a direct sequel.

1. The Shelbourne, Dublin, Ireland

One of the most beautiful and luxurious Dublin hotels, the Shelbourne, is known for many wonderful things – from the its history and exquisite style and decoration to the fact that it hosted numerous stars and royalty such as Princess Grace of Monaco. However, one of the things this gorgeous hotels is known for is also that is supposedly gets quite frequent reports of a paranormal activity such water faucets turning and even a child appearing from nowhere. Stayin there in 2013, the actress Lily Collins had a strange experience herself which she described on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

2. Grand Hyatt Hotel, Taipei

Located right next to the famous Taipei 101 in the vibrant Xinyi district, the Grand Hyatt Hotel is truly impressive. Impressive is also the story connected to it though in a eerie way. There were reports of many guests about strange activities in the bathrooms like toilets flushing by themselves and spooky sounds coming from bothe inside and outside of the rooms. As the story goes, a prison camp during WWII was on this land where many executions took place. However, according to Grand Hyatt, the legend is untrue as local historians confirmed that there were no prison camps on or near the ground and there was a military factory there. In any case, the gorgeous hotels is receiving numerous positive reviews for it excellece, so maybe it’s best to check out the story yourself when in Taipei.

3. Hotel Marroad International, Narita, Japan

Located very close to a busy Narita Airport, Hotel Marroad International is considered to be a great transit hotel in Japan. While waiting for your next flight you can enjoy beitiful views of runway, go to the gym and sauna or just rest. That is, if you can sleep with some strange noises that were reported by several guests, thinking the hotel might be haunted. This comes as no surprise as the hotel holds a very gruesome story behind the doors of Room 1272. Namely, in 1999, members of a cult occupied this room, refusing housekeeping for several months and ignoring the request of the management to vacate the room. Finally, the police were called to enter and they had a horrible sight – there was a mummified corpse in the room, laying on the bed in a bathrobe and illuminated by candlelight. It was a late father of one of the cult members and they still treated him as alive – the police later confirmed that the person was dead at least for four months before the  discovery.

4. Grand Hotel Europe, St. Petersburg

Imagine mistaking a ghost for a porter – this apparetnly sometimes happens in the luxurious five-star Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg. The hotel was built on the place of a previous lodge where strange sounds like squeaks and moans were reported ever since 1706. when guests would hear and witness horrifying things like footsteps in the attic, moans, and squeaks. According to the legend, a resident once went to the attic and saw a ghost of the Belyaev- Tolstoy, an officer that was killed. This promoted the owner to sell the inn and on this place the new Grand Hotel Europe was built – however, seems that the ghost liked the new hotel as well and decided to stay.

5. The Langham, London

According to Visit Britain, ghosts have been long associated to this beautiful, over 150 year old hotel. Located just across famous historical city Zadar, strangely enough, Dugi otok is still a jewel to be discovered by many. And though there are tourists visiting its gorgeous beaches, the crowds are not as close to crowds on some other islands, and you can always find a small beach to yourself. With villages spread across this long island (which is actually a literal translation of the Croatian name of the island – Dugi otok), you will enjoy the authentic Mediterranean. Driving across the island most beautiful views will open in front of you – it is almost surreal. Don’t miss to visit the Veli Rat lighthouse at one end of the island, you will enjoy the scenery and relax, soaking in sun, breeze, salty air and all the soothing sounds of the island.

There are many gorgeous beaches across the island, and, while a lot of people enjoy Saharun for its fine, white sand, and you actually can’t miss wherever you go for swimming on this beautiful island, the absolute winner is for sure Dragon’s Eye. Though not technically a beach but rather a sea cave, kind of a secluded pool naturally built by rocks the Dragon’s Eye is one of the most unique places you’ll see. And the feeling of swimming in a calm sea pool while the waves are crashing against the rocks is incredible, being in such a setting is something you will never forget.

The pristine nature of Dugi otok will just blow you away – the clear, blue sea, mighty cliffs and Mediterranean greenery are the perfect combination for relaxation and reenergizing. And though the nature is beautiful all over the island, the special nature haven to visit is certainly Nature Park Telašćica that, besides incredible cliffs that rise over 200 m tall and picturesque Telašćica bay also holds salt lake ‘Mir’. The Nature Park spreads not only on Dugi otok but also encompasses thirteen little islands around so, if you are lucky and with a boat, be sure to visit at least some of them.

One of my favourite things in Telašćica is for sure the Donkey sanctuary, a shelter for abandoned donkeys where they found their sanctuary. The noble animal is one of the symbols of the Adriatic coast as they have been helping people with their hard work throughout history. However, with the industry and technology evolving, the need for donkeys diminished and so did unfortunately their numbers. It is truly a special experience seeing so many of them together, enjoying their well-deserved rest.

Everything on Dugi otok is in line with nature, even the architecture. Besides the charming Dalmatian stone houses, one of the best examples is the recently opened, luxurious Villa Nai 3.3. So no matter if you like camping and Robinson tourism or you are up for a high level, luxurious vacation, as long as you enjoy and love nature, Dugi otok has everything you need and will charm you completely – I can only say that I am completely in love with the island and I can’t wait to go again this summer!

1. Ixelles Ponds 

Probably one of the most famous ponds in Brussels, the Ixelles Ponds are located just next to the very popular square Flagey, one of the centers of both day- and nightlife. Take a walk along the two beautiful ponds that with the surrounding park create the beginning of the green strip going as far as the Sonian Forest. Don’t be surprised if you see patient fishermen on the shore – fishing is allowed on Wednesdays, Sundays and public holidays but of course, once caught, the fish needs to be returned to the pond.

2. Leopold Park 

Right within the European Quarter, it would be unfair not to mention this wonderful green hotspot attracting not only many EU officials and business people during their lunch break but also residents and tourists wanting to take a break from the city while in the very (EU) heart of it. With a charming pond serving as playground for a variety of birds and adjacent to the European Parliament, Park Leopold also houses museums and institutes as well as the House of the European History which is well worth visiting right after enjoying the nature.

3. Bois de la Cambre 

Perfect for a getaway on a sunny Brussels weekend, Bois de la Cambre is definitely one of the favourite spots of locals in need for nature and greenery. Linked to the city by the bustling Avenue Louise, this urban public park is the best setting for numerous activities – from biking, jogging, playing badminton or Frisbee to having Yoga or Tai-chi classes or just plain relaxing and having a picnic. The lake boasts a small island called Robinson’s island – feel free to discover!

4. Park Tournay – Solvay

Located at the edge of the Sonian Forest, though one of the most beautiful parks in Brussels, the Tournay-Solvay park is not as well known as other parks, even to locals. The English-style garden with a variety of exotic trees and wildlife just calls for a walk and with each step you will discover something new – from an old castle and rose garden to a beautiful pond and community gardens tempting the passers-by with the many delicious fruit growing there like apples and pears. 

5. Ganshoren swamp

A bit untraditional but nevertheless gorgeous, we had to bring the Ganshoren swamp to your attention. The wet meadows and marshes with reed beds give it a very rural look while at some points you can still see apartment buildings standing high, giving an impressive contrast to the nature, creating a unique experience of the border between the nature and the city. Home to many animals and plants, the swamp is often visited by aromatherapists teaching small groups about benefits of different plants on human health. 

6. Tenbosch

As a small treat at the end, we present this true gem – Tenbosch. A green oasis just a stone’s throw from Avenue Louise, this beautiful park with a small pond is perfect for an afternoon read, walk with friends or a weekend picnic. The kids can play on a charming playground surrounded by the many different kinds of trees and flowers that, with their different blooming season, always give the park another look and something to discover.

With its variety of plants, Tenbosch is also home to many birds creating beautiful soundscape, making it a soothing bubble of nature in a usually busy area.

This ideal renaissance city, originally known as ‘Karlstadt’ or (‘Charles’s Town’ in German), is shaped in a form of a six-point star and is one of the rare cities for which the exact date of founding is known – the construction of the city began on orders of the ruler on 13 July 1579.

Previously a fort, the star-shaped old town popularly known as ‘The Star’ is nowadays a city center with the outlines of the star transformed into beautiful parks and promenades of chestnuts and linden trees. Take a walk through the perfectly aligned little streets within the Star, visit the main square with the Town Museum and experience some of the city’s rich history. Continue the stroll through promenades and parks and see for yourself why Karlovac considered to be one of the greenest cities in Croatia.

Don’t be surprised if you see horses in the city centre – the numerous parks and promenades are ideal for strolls and riding. And why not try yourself? Riding club Karlovac will be happy take you through parkways and greenery of the city in company of these beautiful animals.

3. Old Castle Dubovac

A place to visit is definitely the Old Castle Dubovac. The medieval castle overlooks the city and the Kupa river and is one of the most beautiful and best preserved examples of medieval architecture in Croatia. Visit the museum in the tower, climb the wooden stairs and enjoy the panoramic view of the city. Have a break within the thick castle walls and treat yourself with delicious meal in Bistro ‘Kastel’, restaurant with one of the most romantic settings in the city. We recommend lemon tart for a dessert!

4. Mreznicka kuca

For a relaxing afternoon in the nature, visit Mrežnička kuća (House of Mrežnica river) just outside the city, where you can enjoy delicious food and cocktails right by the river. Be a guest in their ‘Dnevni boravak’ (The Living Room), beautifully decorated open air concept with grass carpet and the river view. In beautiful ambiance, surrounded by nature, you can enjoy different delicacies and their specialty – carp chips. And if it is warm enough, you can even have a swim.

5. Fun night out

For a fun night out, choose one of the many events happening across the year like concerts, festivals and fairs or just go to the city center full of cozy bars such as Papas bar, Cohiba or Ziggy where you can enjoy good music with locals together with a pint of Karlovačko beer of course, local beer the production of which goes all the way to 1854.
