Hoping to avoid the same, the park has now announced that its entrance lanes are being fitted with facial recognition technology. In a statement that appears to acknowledge what a crowd-splitter the move might be, the Walt Disney Company website says: “Participation is optional. Entrance lanes that do not employ facial recognition technology are also available.”

The privacy implications of camera use during events came into sharp focus in July 2025, when a US CEO was caught on camera allegedly cheating on his wife with a work colleague at a Coldplay gig. Footage of the incident went viral, and both quickly resigned from their roles at tech firm Astronomer amid intense scrutiny.

More recently still, the use of facial recognition cameras powered by AI-software licensed to law enforcement has provoked a fierce public debate. The Trump administration is reportedly looking to acquire the use of Meta-style smart glasses—a device on which facial recognition is imminent—for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.

The security of information being held online has also been in the headlines with the official Europe-wide launch of the EU’s new biometric Entry Exit System at borders, and the news that thousands of Eurail Interrail customers may have had their personal information doxxed by hackers.

It’s against this backdrop, and amid the increasing use of the tech at sports stadiums and other event venues, that Disney has cautiously alerted its parkgoers to “lanes equipped with facial recognition technology at the entrances to Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.” The technology “facilitates ease of re-entry into our parks and helps prevent fraud,” Disney says.

The company statement is at pains to reassure customers, explaining how the facial recognition will work with “images of your face taken by a camera at the entrance and the image of your face that was saved when you first used the ticket or pass” and “employ biometric technology to convert those images into unique numerical values.” They then “compare the numerical values to find a match” and “except in cases where data must be maintained for legal or fraud-prevention purposes, delete all numerical values within 30 days of creation.” Children under the age of 18 may use the service with the consent of a parent or guardian.

Though the firm says it has “implemented technical, administrative and physical security measures that are designed to protect Guest information from unauthorized access, disclosure, use and modification,” it also gives the option for ticket holders to opt out of the surveillance. “If you do not wish to use this service, please enter through the parks’ main entrances located along the Esplanade,” it says. Cast Members will manually validate such ticket holders.

Meanwhile, to date, it is unknown whether Bob Cummings felt validated by his not-so-secret embrace with a dancer. He was quick to brush the encounter off with a smile, saying: “As you can see folks, I’d like to stay at the Mardi Gras forever.”

The company and the investors backing the project hope to be able to attract some 700,000 to 800,000 chocolate lovers during the first year, and over a million per year afterwards. Spanning over 30,000 square meters, the site in Broc (Gruyère) will require a total investment of some CHF 400 million (€436 million), including hotels, restaurants, chocolate tastings, and educational opportunities.

However, for the project, Maison Cailler won’t have to start from zero. The park will be a mix of old and new buildings. The factory in Broc has been recognised as being the oldest operating chocolate factory in the world and is listed in Switzerland’s Federal Inventory of Heritage Sites. The on-site Maison Cailler museum, attracting some 400,000 visitors per year, will be demolished in order to make room for a restored Neo-Renaissance facade. And the factory’s forecourt will be lowered in order to sit at its original level, where visitors will be able to participate in cooking workshops led by master chocolatiers.

The final outlay of the new attraction is expected to include the factory’s former mechanical workshops, a reconstructed production line, a new gallery, as well as a cocoa bean-shaped greenhouses in order to take curious-minded chocolate lovers on an immersive tour. In the so-called Chocolate Emporium at the end of the journey, visitors will be able to try the entire Cailler range.

In order to alleviate traffic, a direct train will run from Bern to the Broc-Chocolaterie. A cable lift has also been planned to connect the chocolate park to an off-site underground parking garage.

At the moment of writing, the park is still subject to planning permission, which will involve an amendment to the Local Development Plan and ten building permit applications. Nonetheless, investors plan to complete the first phase of the building by 2030.  And although 2030 is not that far off, especially for a project of such a size, Maison Cailler is even planning a pre-opening between late 2027 and mid 2028.

Four zones provide insights into Eastern and Western cultural history with themed settings inspired by a Southern floating market village, ancient European maritime routes, the legacy of the Oc Eo and Phu Nam civilizations, and “legends drawn from untamed wilderness,” the press statement reveals.

Attractions include the Mystic Ocean Voyage, a nearly 100m Mini Blaster water coaster aimed at little ones, and the Serpent’s Aquarium- a wall-running slide that propels riders at speeds of up to 33km/h along a 180m course, as well as Mekong Water Battle, a 1,800m² play area featuring 20 platforms and over 130 interactive elements.

The park’s large-scale experiences and use of technology have already garnered international accolades. Its Aqua Warriors Battle attraction was recognised during the opening ceremony as the world’s first 10-lane water racing slide, while Adventure Oasis gained the title of the world’s longest water coaster for children.

In addition, it hosts several first- of-their-kind attractions in Vietnam, including one of Asia’s longest water coasters at 348 meters, Vietnam’s first 400 meter challenge river, the first Twist ‘n’ Splash attraction within the Sun World system, a giant Ridehouse complex, the largest wave pool across Sun World destinations at 6,000m², and an “ultra long lazy river,” spanning 650 metres.

And for refreshments, guests will find indoor and outdoor buffet restaurants, a range of dining outlets and service counters designed to accommodate thousands of visitors daily.

Inaugurated in time for the spring festival of Tet, the most important celebration in the Vietnamese calendar, and now open throughout the lunar spring season, the park currently boasts spring-oriented décor with around 10,000 coconut trees and over 10,000 blooms creating what is bound to be an enchanting environment for fun seekers of all ages.

World of Frozen aspires to bring together gripping narratives, technology, and atmosphere, and boasts a version of the brand’s Frozen Ever After touring attraction, as well as a themed restaurant and a stage show. For D’Amaro, the Frozen opening is a chance to underscore his new position as CEO, having successfully steered Disney’s Parks and Experiences to 57% of the division’s operating income in 2025. “We continue to dream bigger and bring stories to life in brand new ways,” D’Amaro told attendees at the launch. 

The new attractions sit alongside other refreshed offers across the park, including a “teacup-style” spinning ride with colourful boats and lanterns inspired by Tangled, and a The Lion King-themed land.

Disneyland Paris has recorded a total of 445 million visits since opening in 1992, underscoring its enduring popularity. Emmanuel Macron stated that the new development project is expected to create an additional 1,000 jobs, reinforcing the resort’s economic impact. After visiting the park with dignitaries, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, agreed, hailing the Paris site as “Europe’s leading tourist destination and most visited theme park,” praising its business model and role as a major employer and tourism hub. 

The park is significant, Tzitzikostas said in a statement on X, because “it helps stabilise the tourism industry beyond peak seasons and today generates around 6% of France’s total tourism revenue. This new €2 billion investment will create thousands of jobs and further strengthen Europe’s tourism sector, alongside a strong commitment to sustainable tourism practices.”

Meanwhile, initial reviews have been mixed, with early visitors finding hiccups such as a closed restaurant, others praising the visitor immersion, and many noting the ongoing appeal of the Frozen franchise: “Frozen IP is so popular I don’t see any slow crowds for this until Lion King opens,” said VanillaNL on a Reddit thread dedicated to the attraction.

“Bluey’s Best Day Ever!” will debut at the Fantasyland Theatre inside Disneyland Park. The experience is part of the resort’s 70^th anniversary celebration and will run throughout the day, starting on 22 March 2026. 

The experience will feature Bluey, the beloved blue heeler dog, and her sister, Bingo, appearing onstage with actors and musicians in an interactive setting, transformed to resemble Bluey’s school. Inspired by the Disney+ series, the show invites “guests of all ages to laugh louder, dance harder, and play together.” Complete with a fun fair atmosphere, the performances are scheduled throughout the day during two unique rotating shows, allowing guests to visit at their convenience.

Unlike traditional stage shows, the experience emphasises participation rather than passive viewing. Guests are encouraged to move around the venue, with no required seating, and can take part in activities inspired by the series, including balloon-tossing games like “Keepy Uppy.” 

Beyond the stage show, the area will feature interactive play zones such as a life-sized gnome village and fairy garden, as well as photo opportunities with themed props, including Bluey’s family car. 

Alongside the entertainment, Disneyland is introducing a lineup of Bluey-themed food and beverages that will launch the same day. The offerings are designed for families, with items such as a “Magic ‘Asparagus’ Pretzel,” mini Dutch pancakes known as “Poffertjes,” and a world-famous meringue “Pavlova Parfait” among the highlights. 

“Starting on March 22, the resort will be serving up delicious delights that the whole family will love,” Disney Parks Blog said.

Additional menu items include a themed kids’ meal featuring a mini all-beef hot dog and a variety of specialty drinks, including non-alcoholic cold brew and fruit-based beverages. Souvenir items such as a Bluey-themed sipper and popcorn bucket will also be available while supplies last.

The Bluey experience is part of a broader collaboration between Disney and BBC Studios, with creative input from Ludo Studio, the team behind the original series.

Pleasurewood Hills, located in Lowestoft in Suffolk, first opened in 1983 and currently offers around 35 rides and attractions. After the park was acquired by the French leisure operator Looping Group in October 2025, the new owners submitted a planning proposal outlining a broader strategy to revitalise the site and secure its long-term future.

The proposal includes four new rides: a Star Flyer, a Spinning Coaster, an Apple Coaster designed for younger children, and a Big Wheel.

The headliner would be the 30-metre-high Star Flyer, which has been described as a “high-profile thrill ride.” A slightly smaller, 12-metre Spinning Coaster will cater for families, while the Apple Coaster will be aimed at younger visitors. The Big Wheel, which would rise to 36 metres, is designed for visitors of all ages and would offer panoramic views of the park.

This investment comes at a time when some of the park’s long-standing attractions are beginning to show their age. One of the park’s most iconic rides, the Cannonball Express, is closed for maintenance during the 2026 season. Introduced in 1995, the high-speed ride had become something of a local institution, but it was in need of serious refurbishment and probably a good oiling.

Freddi Stokes, one of the three brothers who manage the park, told the BBC that the team believed the site had lost some of its former sparkle.

“It’s a little bit shabby around the edges – the rides, the performance level – I just feel like it’s not as it should be,” he said.

The park typically operates from April to October, attracting visitors from across East Anglia and the rest of the UK.

In its planning statement, the company said that the proposal forms part of a ‘wider strategy to reinvigorate the park’, with the aim of increasing visitor numbers and the time that guests spend on site, while ensuring that Pleasurewood Hills remains competitive within the regional tourism and leisure market.

However, not everyone in the seaside town is convinced.

Some residents have raised concerns about the proposed location of the Big Wheel. One resident told the BBC that the panoramic views highlighted in the proposal would extend not only across the park, but also allow riders to look directly into neighbouring properties.

The same resident questioned the park’s claim “that visuals would be offset with the tree line.”

Others, however, welcomed the plans, saying the investment could benefit a region “still suffering from the after-effects of the pandemic and the less-than-ideal economic climate.”

“In my opinion, any reasonable investment in the leisure industry should be approved,” said one supporter.

A final decision on the proposal is expected to be made by local authorities on 9 April. If approved, the project could mark the beginning of a broader wave of investment across regional theme parks in the UK.

Elsewhere in the sector, new family-focused attractions are also under development, including an immersive PAW Patrol-themed area planned for another UK park. The area – just over half a hectare – is expected to feature a lookout tower and four themed rides upon opening.

Spanning parts of both Tokyo and neighbouring Kanagawa Prefecture, the 26,000 sqm PokéPark Kanto attraction, developed under the supervision of The Pokémon Company, sits within Yomiuriland, around half an hour from central Tokyo.

The park is divided into two main areas. The first is the Pokémon Forest, an extensive nature trail populated by over 600 life-size Pokémon replicas. The second area, Sedge Town, recreates a bustling Pokémon hub complete with shops, attractions, and entertainment.

In the forest area, visitors can explore wooded paths, hills, tunnels and rocky trails while spotting Pokémon in an environment designed to resemble their natural habitat.

A highlight of Sedge Town is the ‘Pika Pika Sparks!’ show at the Sedge Gym, where live performances bring Pokémon battles to life on stage. Visitors can also enjoy exclusive merchandise, themed food and drink options, and two family rides: Pika Pika Paradise, a flying attraction centred on Pikachu and electric-type Pokémon; and the carousel-style Vee Vee Voyage, inspired by Eevee.

Early demand suggests that the park may quickly become one of Japan’s major new attractions, with advance and lottery-based ticket sales already sold out until early April.

Prices are similar to those at Tokyo Disneyland.

There are three types of pass available: the Ace Trainer Pass, which offers unlimited access to both areas for visitors aged 13 and over and costs ¥14,000 (about €90); the Trainer Pass, which grants timed entry to both zones and costs ¥7,900 (about €50); and the Town Pass, which allows entry to Sedge Town only and costs ¥4,700 (about €30).

As with many Japanese theme parks, securing tickets requires advance planning due to high demand. International visitors can typically book via the official website through a lottery system around three months in advance or purchase remaining tickets on a first-come, first-served basis around two months before their visit.

Please note that children under five and guests with reduced mobility cannot access the Pokémon Forest, as the 500 m trail requires guests to climb 110 steps and is not wheelchair-friendly.

Other attractions include the world’s tallest AquaLoop, dubbed Speedy Jamezales, a translucent fibreglass waterslide featuring a disappearing floor to send riders into an abyss-like drop. The Slithereel will set another record as “the world’s longest rotating slide wheel” that “combines the excitement of a Ferris wheel with a water slide.”

In addition, the Jamal Joom is anticipated to hold the record for “the world’s longest mat blaster,” an attraction blending high-speed, headfirst mat racing with uphill, jet-propelled technology.

Although no launch schedule has yet been confirmed for Aquarabia, the Saudi Gazette reported March 2026 as the inauguration date targeted by Qiddiya Investment Company’s managing director. Abdullah Al-Dawood appeared to want to build on the momentum gained in Qiddiya from the recent launch of Six Flags and be open in time to tap into the travel and tourism market during the Eid al-Fitr season, mid-March.

At the time of its opening, the US$1-billion Six Flags Qiddiya claimed to possess the world’s tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster. The Falcons Flight was intended as a “signature attraction” at the entertainment complex, reaching top speeds over 240 km/h, heights of 195 metres, and more than four km of track.

There is no shortage of record breakers here either. The park’s Sirocco Tower is the world’s tallest, free-standing shot tower at about 144 metres. The Iron Rattler is the world’s tallest tilt coaster. And the Gyrospin is the world’s tallest pendulum ride.

They are all soon to face a rival, if Aquarabia really is coming as soon as officials hope. Qiddiya City is envisaged as a vast entertainment and leisure development on the edge of the Tuwaiq Mountains, and is part of the Saudi Arabian government’s strategy to decarbonise its economy through investment in experiential tourism and domestic entertainment.

Other highlights include Culzean Castle in Ayrshire, Scotland, dramatically perched on cliffs overlooking the Firth of Clyde; Edinburgh Zoo; and the historic warship HMS Belfast in London.

The confirmed attractions list also includes Fountains Abbey, Kingston Lacy, Quarry Bank, Stourhead, and Anglesey Abbey, which are frequently highlighted as being among the most popular participating sites. Visitors can enjoy tours of BBC Studios at Alexandra Palace in London and active experiences such as sessions at the Halifax Wheelchair Rugby League Club and activities at the Sport Wales National Centre.

The Tower of London will offer half-price entry to ticket holders during the promotion. The same applies to visits to the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland – a UNESCO-listed natural site famed for its roughly 40,000 interlocking basalt columns formed by ancient volcanic activity along the Antrim coast.

Henley has described National Lottery Open Week as “a chance to get outside and explore the UK’s rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture through free and low-cost days out,” and has explained that the initiative is also a way of thanking loyal players who, each week, raise £32 million “for good causes, supporting vital projects in arts, sports, heritage, and communities nationwide.”

This marks the ninth edition of the programme. The full list of participating attractions is available online and is updated regularly.

A word of advice: as venues can become particularly busy during the promotion, visitors are encouraged to book ahead where possible or consider visiting during quieter hours. Please note that this year, the final day of the programme coincides with Mother’s Day, and some venues have chosen to exclude this date from the offer.

The Hollywood Drift attraction claims in press materials to give riders all the high-octane cockpit sensations of the Fast & Furious universe. Guests can feel the thrill of 360-degree drifting thanks to rotation technology deployed at speeds of up to 115 km per hour. The East Coast rollercoaster also features nearly 1,250 km of aerial track. Guests will fly nearly 50 metres in the air during the ride’s vertical spike overlooking Universal CityWalk.

Fast & Furious producer and star, Vin Diesel, narrates the trailer, which launched on 5 February and will be broadcast during the Winter Olympics, the Super Bowl LX, and the NBA All-Star. “Are you ready?” the advert asks. “Buckle up for the next chapter,” Diesel says, over virtual footage of young parkgoers screaming and laughing as they are spun in the air along tracks in a ride that combines the rotation of an old-fashioned waltzer with the height, speed, ups and downs, and loops of a rollercoaster.

The advent of the new rides helps to mark the 25^th anniversary of the Fast & Furious franchise, as the brand finds itself between releases. The final instalment, Fast Forever, is due to hit screens on 17 March 28, a press release said. The last release was Fast X in 2023.

Having opened its Epic Universe in 2025, Universal Hollywood already boasts Mario Kart and Bowser’s Challenge in Super Nintendo World among its attractions, as well as Despicable Me, Jurassic World, The Secret Life of Pets, The Simpsons, and The Mummy. The Florida resort’s Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit was closed down in 2025. The previous Florida studio’s ride, Fast & Furious – Supercharged, will cease to operate in 2027.

The firm is also due to open Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, in 2026. The resort will be specifically aimed at families with young children and boasting seven separate themed lands. The park is to include a special Shrek Swamp and a SpongeBob SquarePants Bikini Bottom, Illumination’s Minions vs. Minions: Bello Bay Club, DreamWorks’ TrollsFest, DreamWorks’ Puss in Boots Del Mar, and the Isle of Curiosity.

As fans look forward to the series of grand launches, Universal says more information about Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift will be shared “in the months ahead.” Competing with Universal Orlando is Walt Disney World, which is undergoing major investment and expansion, with the support of a $17-billion agreement with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.
