Bom Jesus is a unique architectural gem in Braga
nestled in the beauty of Northern Portugal.
Dating from the XIII century, the sanctuary
was built in a Neoclassic style.
The zigzag stairways climb 116 meters,
a site for joggers and pilgrims alike.
You can go up by foot, car or even
experience the XIX century funicular.
Bom Jesus funicular was designed
by Raoul Mesnier du Ponsard.
Financed by Bracarense Manuel Joaquim Gomes,
it began operating in 1882.
This funicular is eco friendly thanks
to its water counterbalance system.
In July 2019, Bom Jesus was inscribed
as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
